- 1 - Irish Traditional Music Session: Every Monday: 8-11pm Tenor , harmonica and player Don Meade and friends get together every Monday night for an Irish traditional music session in the back room of this historic Hell’s Kitchen bar/restaurant. Free admission; food and drink are available. Musicians and singers and listeners welcome. Maritime Music & Song Session; Sunday, June 7th; 2-4:30pm We are delighted to again be at , where we have held so many great events over the years. The Seaport is still struggling back after Hurricane Sandy, and we are glad to be helping. There will be two exquisite performers from Brittany: Yuna Léon, is a young fiddler of note who plays in dance bands and prestigious line- ups. She leads regular Irish sessions in Rennes and near Lorient. She is equally at ease with both Breton and Irish traditions. Brigitte Kloareg is a multilingual peddler of songs around the Celtic world and be- yond. Brought up in Brittany, she then spent 20 years in Wales, travelling extensively through the British Isles listening to traditional singers. She is also a storyteller and sets contemporary poetry to music. A voluntary donation will be collected for the performers. Folk Open Sing: Wednesdays, June 3rd & July 1st; 7-10pm Join us on the first Wednesday of each month for an open sing. Bring your voice, instruments, friends, neighbors, and children. Drop by for a couple of songs or the whole evening. At the Ethical Culture Society, 53 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn (near 2nd St.). The William Main Doerflinger Memorial Sea Shanty Sessions at the Noble Maritime Collection (to give the official title) are from 2 to 5 pm at the Noble Gallery, Building D, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY. Refreshments are available, including beer and wine for sale. Snug Harbor is accessible by the S40 bus from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and by car. Eileen Pentel Spring has finally Sprung and Summer is close upon us. This month the Irish Tradi- tional Music Sessions, the Sunnyside Singers Club, and the Folk Open Sing continue. The Maritime Music & Song Session and the Shanty Sing are also happening. Now is a great time to sign up for the TradMaD Camp at Pinewoods Camp in Mas- sachusetts at the end of the summer. What a special way to go into the fall, with the memories of the music and the lakes and the wonders of the program and the camp. Scholarships are available - see this issue, page 4. This issue also has the festival listings for the summer. It is an issue you will want to keep. Info., call Heather at 212-957-8386 Updated FMSNY events information (online) is available on our website at: http://www.folkmusicny.org TradMaD Scholarships Nancy Keness is donating a scholarship to TradMaD camp in honor of Irene Anderson, who first introduced Nancy to the club in 1980, resulting in her meeting many fine friends and musicians over the years. The scholarship is for someone who is in col- lege (or left college no more than five years ago), with the proviso that the recipient come to a board meeting of FMSNY within six months. The scholarship has been split between two qualified applicants. Other scholarships are still available.
