Highlights • The number of people who died in the recent snow spell has increased to 107, with the highest reported in P.A.K. (79) and Balochistan (21). • National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that the damage to houses has increased significantly to 1,300 mostly located in Balochistan (1,062). • Rescue efforts are ongoing and major highways and link roads are being cleared in the affected provinces, however access to remote areas / villages is limited due to continuous rain and snow.

Situation Overview The people of north and south-west provinces of Pakistan namely Balochistan and Pakistan Administered (P.A.K.), Baltistan (GB) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) faced an unexpected heavy spell of rain/snowfall and avalanches between 11-13 January. Most of the areas are cut off with limited access to remote areas in the affected districts.

Rapid assessment conducted by Pakistan Red Crescent Society in Neelum district shows that 910 families (6,370 individuals) have been displaced due to avalanches and landslides while 3,134 families (21,938) are indirectly affected due to heavy snow. The total population of the district is 190,333 individuals. The displaced families are living with host families as no communal camps have been established to date. Air support to the people is getting disrupted due to bad weather in P.A.K. and G-B. Response In AJK, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has established State Emergency Desk (SED) and control rooms in the affected areas and humanitarian relief items have been dispatched and distribution started, with assistance from Pakistan Army. The AJK government has confirmed that the figure of the casualties, losses and damages could rise. Overall, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other relevant departments are carrying out relief operations through helicopters in affected area. The Pakistani military is also spearheading rescue operations with the civil administration in Kashmir and Balochistan. The office of the Prime Minister has also directed to immediately provide all humanitarian assistance on emergency basis in P.A.K. and Balochistan.

• 465 Tents provided by GBDMA have been distributed by District Administration • 400 families affected by earthquake received winter kits by State Development Organization (SDO) in Astore

In Gilgit Baltistan the following roads are cleared for all kind of traffic: • Main Astore Valley Road (44 km) • Gorikote to Astore Road (06 km) • Chorit/Tarishing Valley Road (28 km) • Valley Road (16 km) • Valley Road (28 km) • Valley Road (20 km)

In addition to government response, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has also responded to the crisis in Balochistan and distributed food parcels and non-food items (Kitchen Set, Hygiene Kits, Tarpaulin sheets and Blankets) among 750 families in Pishin, Mastung, Qilla Saifullah, Quetta and Qilla Abdullah districts.
