Just 40 minutes from the lake, this charming historical city draws people from all over the S world. Assisi, with its Basilica and the importance of the artists who worked on it, have been a cultural and spiritual S inspiration: the diffusion of the artistic and spiritual message of the Franciscan Order has spread across the world, I influencing the art of other towns and cities. Assisi represents a unique example of a "city-sanctuary" within its S environmental setting, from its Umbro-Roman and medieval origins to the present day. The Basilica of San Francesco is I also considered to be an exceptional example of an architectural ensemble which has significantly influenced the development of art and architecture. A visit to Assisi is clearly influenced by the Franciscan heritage. The sacred nature of the place has influenced the planning and architecture of the town, where the celebration of Franciscan ideology has contributed to the creation of monuments that are of outstanding interest for architecture and the visual arts. Territory & Tourism T R A S I M E N TRASIMENO LAKE Located in the northern side of Umbria, at the border with Tuscany, the Trasimeno Lake is a truly natural O heaven. The fourth largest lake in Italy, it owes its name to an ancient legend: the story goes that the fearless prince Trasimeno, son of L the wise Etruscan king Tirreno di Lidia, fell desperately in love with the nymph Agilla, and later he married her on the lake's A shores. Nonetheless, the wrath of Gods fell harmfully on the young lovers: today it's still possible to hear in the distance, among the K gentle breeze darting over the lake, the moaning of the nymph Agilla, continuously searching for her lover swallowed by waves. E The event will include breathtaking landscapes, old stone villages, typical flavours and water sports for all kinds of fun, but also big events, among ancient traditions, music and great shows. Come and discover the Lord Byron's "silver veil", that across centuries bewitched with its charm several poets, painters and travellers. The Trasimeno Lake, with its extensive surface and its shallow depth, fits well with the practice of water sports and is becoming increasingly popular as ideal destination for sports such as windsurf, kitesurf, wakeboard, sailing and water skiing. The lake offers paths suitable for mountain biking: there are no prohibitive climbs or technical parts, but it's 48 kilometres with a 1000 metre altitude difference, making it more suitable for experienced bikers. There are walking paths as well: 160 km that crosses the fascinating villages of the area, also including the islands of the lake. Territory & Tourism G A S T R O N O M Y A R O The lake fish has strongly influenced the culinary tradition of the area around the lake. Restaurants and local festivals offer U excellent dishes. N Visiting Umbria means to taste a lifestyle, since it is land of flavour where man and nature make all the difference. A very long D history of passion and experience goes into every bottle of olive oil and each glass of wine, its main natural products. Trasimeno hills, the cities of Trevi, Spoleto, Assisi and Spello are known all over the world for the production of excellent extra T virgin olive oil, appreciated of its inner quality due to the climate, the manual harvest and the the "cold extraction" process that H gives this olive oil is very intense and has a delightfully fruity taste. E Umbria has many DOCG wines: cities like Montefalco and Bevagna (60 minutes from the lake) made Umbria famous for the production of Sagrantino wine, considered a star among the Italian red wines. L A K E Territory & Tourism T U S C A N S H O R E On the North Trasimeno extended in Tuscany and the first city that tourists find is Cortona, that is 15 km far O away.

Scacciadiavoli Montefalco Sagrantino Passito COUNTRY ABV Italy 14.5% REGION VARIETALS Wine Umbria Sagrantino Spectator APPELLATION 90 PTS DOCG Montefalco 2012 Sagrantino Passito WINERY Founded in 1884, Cantina Scacciadiavoli, “cast Antonio out the devils”, takes its name from a 19th Galloni century exorcist who lived in the small village 90 PTS bordering the vineyard. He was known to use the wines while performing his exorcist ritual of 2012 ridding poor souls of demons. The estate was built as a complex and modern wine “factory,” which today spans 130 hectares, 35 of which are vineyards. The vines cover a hill in the heart of the Montefalco appellation, divided between the three provinces of Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell’Umbria, and Montefalco. The winery consists of four vertical levels built into the hill, allowing for the use of gravity throughout production. The grapes arrive from the vineyards directly at the highest level then move down to the second level by gravity flow to be fermented and vinified in wood or stainless steel vats. The ground and underground floors are used to age the wines. The Pambuffetti family has owned and operated Scacciadiavoli since 1954 and produces annually approximately 250,000 bottles. CULTIVATION In the past the Sagrantino Passito was the only wine produced from the Sagrantino varietal, and TASTING NOTES it was drunk during religious ceremonies in the A great way to end a meal… big red lovers will enjoy villages of the Montefalco area. • Discovering Umbria Discovering Umbria Terni — Marmore Falls
Discovering Umbria Discovering Umbria Terni — Marmore Falls Discovering Umbria Umbria is the perfect destination where to spend your holidays. Nature and parks, cities rich in art and culture, outdoor sports, along with internationally famous events and its food and wine will make your stay unforgettable. Umbria is a land of balance, able to assemble a thousand facets and a thousand different souls into a single fresco, a blend of man and nature, intense spirituality and secular pride. Every location has a unique identity, the result of millennia of civilisation that have left dense layers of memory and timeless masterpieces throughout the land: Umbrian, Etruscan, Sabine and Roman first and the extraordinary period of the Middle Ages, and then the Renaissance. The rural ingeniousness patiently chiselled the environment, reclaiming land, tilling and planting olive groves and vineyards that not only produce prized oils and wines but have become the symbol of the region. Dotted with medieval towns and silent hermitages, the Umbrian hills offer fascinating sceneries. In Umbria you need only travel a few kilometres to discover places of unspoilt wilderness, with centuries-old beech woods, deep caves, and mountains popolate by ancient legends. And Umbria is also rich in water: it rises in springs and mountain lakes, runs in rivers that carve impressive rocky gorges, and broadens out into wetlands and man-made lakes that are magically transformed into nature reserves. Lake Trasimeno, the gentle flowing of the Tiber, and the leaping falls of the Cascata delle Marmore all seem to have been created intentionally to inspire poets and painters.
