Easily reached via a well-maintained unpaved road, the property is provided with very basic ser- vices by the nearby village (2km; 5’) and is located not far from the Antognolla golf club (4km; 10’). Moving between Umbria and Tuscany is nonetheless extremely easy and the most interesting towns of the two regions are quickly reached: Umbertide, the Etruscan city of Perugia, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Gubbio, the Roman Città di Castello, Cortona, the Franciscan shrine of Assisi, Montefalco with its Sagrantino wine, Bevagna, Foligno, the wine towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, the medieval towns of Todi and Orvieto and Narni which inspired C. S. Lewis for its masterpiece The Chronicles of Narnia. The most convenient airports to reach the property are Perugia San Francesco, Firenze Vespucci, Grosseto Baccarini, Roma Ciampino, Roma Fiumicino, Bologna Marconi and Pisa Galilei. The farmhouse (522 sqm – 5,617 sqft, 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms) is laid over two floors and is split into two apartments organized as follows: - Apartment N°1: - Ground floor: kitchen, dining room with fireplace; - First floor: living room (reached via an external staircase through a loggia), mas- ter bedroom with en-suite bathroom, two independent bedrooms, independent bath- room, studio and ample living room (accessed via an external staircase). - Apartment N°2 (ground floor): living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. With independent access from outside, on the ground floor, there are a laundry room and a tech- nical room. The building was restored, without a nickel spared, so to valorize the farmhouse and keep unal- tered those features one expects to find in an Umbrian countryside building. Here we find he typi- cal stone walls (thick so to grant thermal insulation), coupled with visible wooden beams, terracot- ta floors, old stone fireplaces and details which give the building a cozy look. The farmhouse sits in 1.3 hectares of land, covered by a well-maintained garden in the portion closest to the farmhouse, all fitted with a lighting and irrigation system. The land also houses an olive grove (5,700 sqm) with approximately 100 trees which allow producing extra-virgin olive oil for personal use. Not far from the farmhouse there is the pool area (14 × 6 m) with stone-paved solarium offering a beautiful view over the surrounding countryside. Right next to the pool there is a brick-built pergo- la with fireplace, ideal for al fresco dining in the pleasant summer climate of Umbria. The farmhouse, currently split into two apartments, is perfect as a private residence but is also suitable to be rented out to tourists and vacationers. The quiet location and the presence of a pool are further strong points of the property if one wants to start some form of accommodation busi- ness. © Agenzia Romolini Immobiliare s.r.l. Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 Abstract This thesis compares Umbria before and after the Roman conquest in order to assess the impact of the imposition of Roman control over this area of central Italy. There are four sections specifically on Umbria and two more general chapters of introduction and conclusion. The introductory chapter examines the most important issues for the history of the Italian regions in this period and the extent to which they are relevant to Umbria, given the type of evidence that survives. The chapter focuses on the concept of state formation, and the information about it provided by evidence for urbanisation, coinage, and the creation of treaties. The second chapter looks at the archaeological and other available evidence for the history of Umbria before the Roman conquest, and maps the beginnings of the formation of the state through the growth in social complexity, urbanisation and the emergence of cult places.

  • Variation of Tourist Flows in the Umbria Region After the September 26, 1997, Colfiorito (Central Italy) Earthquake
2518 VARIATION OF TOURIST FLOWS IN THE UMBRIA REGION AFTER THE SEPTEMBER 26, 1997, COLFIORITO (CENTRAL ITALY) EARTHQUAKE Mariella CALEFFI1, Fabrizio MERONI2, Anna MONTINI3, Roberto ZOBOLI4 And Gaetano ZONNO5 SUMMARY Vulnerability studies have been extensively developed in Italy starting form residential buildings, in order to preserve its rich architectural patrimony. This paper presents some results of a CNR project aiming at the definition of a model for the evaluation of socio-economic vulnerability to earthquakes. The Umbria-Marche region has been selected, as case study, due to the long sequence of earthquakes that shaken the area starting on September 26, 1997 and because is one of the most important historic areas of Central Italy. The first step was to define the criteria for quantifying the socio-economic vulnerability of the region. Socio-economic vulnerability is evaluated through a selected set of indicators including population density, housing conditions, the structure of local economy, artistic and historical sites, etc. The dataset includes data on 254 variables organised in 9 groups and 48 indicators that are elaborated at the municipality level for the two regions (338 municipalities). The economic evaluation of the impact of the 1997, Colfiorito (Central Italy) earthquake on the tourist flows in the Umbria region is discussed to illustrate one of the various possible uses of the vulnerability indicators. Before the 1997 earthquake, the annual arrivals in Assisi were about 550,000 (1996), compared to a total population of about 25,000 people living in Assisi. After the earthquake, the tourist arrivals in Assisi fell down drastically to 9,205 arrivals in October ‘97, i.e.
