Whiteové“ nejprve představuji historii vzniku Církve adventistů sedmého dne, včetně společenského a náboženského kontextu v USA a náboženského probuzeneckého hnutí pod vedením Williama Millera, protože v rámci tohoto kontextu byla E. G. Whiteová osobnostně i nábožensky formována. Ve druhé části práce popisuji život a dílo E. G. Whiteové se zaměřením na klíčové momenty jejího života, ovlivňující její prorockou i spisovatelskou úlohu v rámci hnutí milleristů a později Církve adventistů sedmého dne. Rovněž zde uvádím nejdůležitější kritické ohlasy, kterým byla práce E. G. Whiteové vystavena. Ve třetí části krátce představuji jednotlivé svazky díla Drama věků, které pokrývá příběh Velkého sporu od vzpoury satana v nebi, až po druhý příchod Krista při parusii. Zde uvádím i seznam identifikovaných klíčových teologických témat v díle Drama věků. Poslední částí bakalářské práce je analýza jednotlivých teologických témat z pohledu katolické teologie, především se zaměřením na trinitární teologii, christologii a soteriologii. Tato kapitola je vyvrcholením celé práce. Klíčová slova E. G. Whiteová, William Miller, millerismus, Církev adventistů sedmého dne, velký spor, sobota, vyšetřující soud, církev ostatků, malý roh. Abstract In my bachelor´s thesis „The analysis of specific theological topics in Ellen G. White´s writings Conflict of the Ages" first introduce the history of formation Sevent-Day Adventist Church, including social and religious context in USA and religious movement under William Miller as a leader because of in this context E. G. White was her personality and faith under formation. In the second part of my thesis I describe life and life´s work E. G. White focused on the most important milestones of her life which had an influence on her prophet´s and writing´s mission among millerist´s movement and then Seventh-Day Adventist Church. I also present some of the most important critical voices of E. G. White life´s work. In the third part I shortly introduce particular volumes Ellen G. White´s writings Conflict of the Ages which cover the Great controversy story since satan´s revolt in the heaven toward Jesus Christ´s second coming. Here I present list of identificated theological themes in writings Conflict of the Ages. The last part of my bachelor´s thesis is analysis identificated theological themes from the catholic theological perspective primarily trinitarian theology, christology and soteriology. This last chapter is culmination of my thesis. Keywords E. G. We did this by sending in a letter of disassociation in August 1982, requesting that our names be removed from membership. Although the act of disassociation was simple enough, the events leading up to that decision involved a great deal. We had personally witnessed many inconsistencies down through the years but had always shelved our doubts. We lived through the 1960's and the false prophecy concerning the end of the world in 1975. However, the issue that became paramount to us was the fact that Jehovah's Witnesses had surrendered their freedom of conscience to their leadership. This was by design; the Watch Tower Society has become an authoritarian, totalitarian organization, ruled by a group of men known as the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. This small group of men, through their representatives, wields absolute control over the consciences and lives of 3.4 million Jehovah's Witnesses. This imposition of conscience affects the lives of members in areas of health (both mental and physical) as well as marriage, raising- children, education, general welfare, and almost every decision-making process imaginable.

    Challenging the Cults 5. History of Jehovah Witnesses Most people have had a visit by Jehovah’s Witnesses from the local Kingdom Hall. Reactions vary, from rudeness, to hospitality. Just who are these Witnesses? Are they Christian? Are they a cult? To find these answers we need to examine the facts. Today, the active number of Jehovah Witnesses is 6,429,000, and there are 95,919 congregations.1 In 2003, 258,845 new Jehovah Witnesses were baptized. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the official name, claims to be God’s prophet on Earth. "The historical facts show that 1919 was the year when the remnant on earth of the 144,000 Kingdom heirs began to be freed from Great Babylon. In that year the message of God's established kingdom began to be preached from house to house and publicly by Jehovah's Christian witnesses in a fearless way. This preaching of the Kingdom as established in 1914 was in fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy in Matthew 24:14: 'This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations."     Copyright © 2014, 2018 by Cory Baugher 1 KnowingTheBible.net Jehovah’s Witnesses Notes Jehovah’s Witnesses (also known as the Watch Tower Society), based on the teachings of Charles Taze Russel, is a nontrinitarian “Christian” religion that believes that Jesus is only a god/angel and his second coming is imminent. They believe that they are the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ and the only true Christians. History William Miller (1782-1849) was born to a Baptist family in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and he grew up in Hampton, New York. When he became an adult, he rejected his Baptist upbringing, became a deist and joined Freemasonry. In 1812 Miller joined the military in order to fight in the war of 1812. During the war he survived a devastating attack on his fort, where many others did not. He believed his survival was miraculous and began to question his deist beliefs. He returned to his Baptist roots and began to study the Bible intently. He became convinced that God had revealed the second coming of Christ in the Bible. In 1818, based on Daniel 8:14 he believed that this world would come to an end in 1843 and Christ would come sometime between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844. Miller continued to study the Bible to make sure his prediction was correct. In 1831 he left Freemasonry convinced that it was not biblical. That same year he began to publicly preach his prediction. Over the next couple of years, he gained a huge following known as Millerites.

    Cei care pe parcursul istoriei nu au crezut în trinitate În primele două secole de creştinism, nu s-a susţinut existenţa unui Dumnezeu trinitar, doar începând cu anul 160 d.Ch. Teofil a vorbit de Trinitate, însă referindu-se la Dumnezeu, Înţelepciunea şi Cuvântul, (Înţelepciunea şi Cuvântul fiind doar atribute ale lui Dumnezeu Tatăl), doar mai târziu, Tertullian în ultimul deceniu al secolului II d.Ch., adică pe la 190 d.Ch., face referire la trinitate (Tatăl, Fiul şi Duhul Sfânt), folosind cuvântul „Trinitas”, dar nu în sensul trinitarian actual. Este evident că pe parcursul timpului, au existat abateri de la Sfânta Scriptură, în ce priveşte explicarea lui Dumnezeu, căzându-se când într-o extremă când în alta, chiar dacă unii au combătut trinitatea, nici doctrina lor despre Dumnezeu nu a fost una pe deplin corectă, unii au fost mai aproape de adevăr sau mai departe. Să trecem în revistă aceste grupări sau persoane. Ebioniţii (63/135 – 500 d.Ch.), o ramură iudaizantă a creştinismului nu susţinea divinitatea lui Cristos, şi-l considera pe apostolul Pavel ca fiind un apostat. Ebioniţii au fost membrii unei secte ascetice de evrei creştini; îi cuprindea pe nazarineni şi pe elkasiţi. Numele le provine din cuvântul ebraic „ebionim”, care înseamnǎ „sǎrac”. Ne-au parvenit puţine informaţii istorice despre acest grup. Se ştie cǎ s-au fixat în Cisiordania, la Pella, au ajuns în Siria, iar apoi în Asia Micǎ şi în Egipt. Au existat până în sec. IV d.Ch. Ebioniţii credeau într-un singur Dumnezeu şi susţineau cǎ Isus Cristos a fost Mesia, profetul din Deut.

It was here that in 1852 February 16 they greeted the arrival of their second son, Charles Taze Russell.{1} A daughter, Margaret M., was born two years later, and then two more children who died in infancy. (Margaret became Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Land.) Eliza Russell gave a Christian example and instruction to her children until her untimely death in 1861.     1 THE HISTORY OF AN INTERPRETATION LL IDEAS have a beginning. People who believe in an idea, however, are often completely unaware of its background, origin andA development. Ignorance of that history may strengthen the con- viction that the idea is true, even when it is not. As happens in other cases, this ignorance may provide fertile soil for fanaticism. True, knowledge of the historical development of an idea does not necessarily disprove it, but such knowledge does enable us to improve our judgment of its validity. A clear example of an idea— in this case, an interpretation—that is obscured by ignorance is a widely-held concept concerning the “Gentile times” referred to by Christ at Luke 21:24: They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken away as cap- tives among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles, until the times of Gentiles are fulfilled.—NRSV. Millions of persons internationally have come to accept the belief that this prophetic statement definitely points to and is linked with a specific date in the twentieth century and they even build their present plans and future hopes on that belief. What is its history? The “year-day principle” The length of the period called the “Gentile times” (translated “the appointed times of the nations” in the Watch Tower Society’s New World Translation) has been calculated by some expositors, including the Watch Tower Society, to be 2,520 years. Chryssides Introduction Despite the fact that the Jehovah’s Witnesses are probably the best-known reli- gious minority worldwide, there is surprisingly little academic study of the Watch Tower organisation. There are many mainstream Christian critiques of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, but most of these seek to rebut presumed doctrinal errors and allegedly faulty understandings of scripture, and do little to explore the somewhat complex origins and intricate worldview of their supporters. The few independent academic studies that have appeared in recent times tend to be either sociological (Beckford 1975; Stark and Iannaccone 1997; Voas 2008) or explore legal or historical issues relating to the Society (King 1982; Hesse 2001; Peters 2001; Henderson 2010). Originally known as the International Bible Students Association, the move- ment was established by Charles Taze Russell (1852–1916) in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Although Russell denied that he was an Adventist (Russell 1894), his movement grew up within that context, and not long after the Great Disappointment of 1844, when William Miller—often regarded as the father of Second Adventism—wrongly predicted Christ’s return. Adventists were com- ing to terms with the failed prophecy. Some of Miller’s supporters, most nota- bly Hiram Edson and Ellen G. White, had spiritualised the unfulfilled event, claiming that 1844 marked an event that took place in the heavenly realm, where Christ had gone to cleanse the sanctuary in preparation for receiving the faithful, while many Adventists continued to calculate dates. It is against this background that the Jehovah’s Witnesses, then known simply as Bible Students, must be understood.
