Keeping the material/temporal world in perspective, in light of eternity. 3. Pushing us to live lives of purity. 4. Developing faith in us. - “Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.” (John 13:19) - Isaiah 41:4, 21-24, 26; 42:8-9; & 44:6-7 – God makes Himself known be telling of things that will come to pass. Written by John, who was likely the youngest apostle. (“The apostle whom Jesus loved.”) - The only apostle not to die a martyr’s death…“the martyrdom of a long life.” Tradition tells us (Iraneus, Jerome, Clement of Alexandria, Eusubius and others agree) that during the Christian persecution of 95-96 AD, Emperor Domitian tried to kill John in a vat of boiling oil. -

Challenging the Cults 5. History of Jehovah Witnesses Most people have had a visit by Jehovah’s Witnesses from the local Kingdom Hall. Reactions vary, from rudeness, to hospitality. Just who are these Witnesses? Are they Christian? Are they a cult? To find these answers we need to examine the facts. Today, the active number of Jehovah Witnesses is 6,429,000, and there are 95,919 congregations.1 In 2003, 258,845 new Jehovah Witnesses were baptized. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the official name, claims to be God’s prophet on Earth. "The historical facts show that 1919 was the year when the remnant on earth of the 144,000 Kingdom heirs began to be freed from Great Babylon. In that year the message of God's established kingdom began to be preached from house to house and publicly by Jehovah's Christian witnesses in a fearless way. This preaching of the Kingdom as established in 1914 was in fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy in Matthew 24:14: 'This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations." Pietism is part of the atmosphere Americans breathe. Believing that style does, in fact, inform substance, it is not too much to say that pietistic practice has significantly formed the theology and practice of American Chri~tianity.~As a distinctly American church, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod has also been formed in fundamental ways by pietism. -

Ve třetí části krátce představuji jednotlivé svazky díla Drama věků, které pokrývá příběh Velkého sporu od vzpoury satana v nebi, až po druhý příchod Krista při parusii. Zde uvádím i seznam identifikovaných klíčových teologických témat v díle Drama věků. Poslední částí bakalářské práce je analýza jednotlivých teologických témat z pohledu katolické teologie, především se zaměřením na trinitární teologii, christologii a soteriologii. -

Copyright © 2014, 2018 by Cory Baugher 1 KnowingTheBible.net Jehovah’s Witnesses Notes Jehovah’s Witnesses (also known as the Watch Tower Society), based on the teachings of Charles Taze Russel, is a nontrinitarian “Christian” religion that believes that Jesus is only a god/angel and his second coming is imminent. They believe that they are the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ and the only true Christians. History William Miller (1782-1849) was born to a Baptist family in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and he grew up in Hampton, New York. When he became an adult, he rejected his Baptist upbringing, became a deist and joined Freemasonry. In 1812 Miller joined the military in order to fight in the war of 1812. During the war he survived a devastating attack on his fort, where many others did not. He believed his survival was miraculous and began to question his deist beliefs. He returned to his Baptist roots and began to study the Bible intently. He became convinced that God had revealed the second coming of Christ in the Bible. In 1818, based on Daniel 8:14 he believed that this world would come to an end in 1843 and Christ would come sometime between March 21, 1843, and March 21, 1844. Miller continued to study the Bible to make sure his prediction was correct. In 1831 he left Freemasonry convinced that it was not biblical. That same year he began to publicly preach his prediction. Over the next couple of years, he gained a huge following known as Millerites. -

Author: John M. Brenner The Election Controversy of the nineteenth century re-shaped the face of confessional Lutheranism in America. The Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America, the leading voice of confessional Lutheranism in America, bore the brunt of the dispute and ultimately dissolved. This dissertation examines the Election Controversy with special attention to the twentieth century attempts to resolve it in order to discover the underlying problems that have prevented the opposing sides from reaching a resolution. The dissertation is written from the viewpoint of the Wisconsin Synod, one of the synods involved in the controversy but often ignored in the discussion of it. The study is needed because contemporary observers do not have a good understanding of confessional Lutheranism and Lutheranism’s historic emphasis on doctrinal purity. -

Whalen Some years past we sent our six-year old to Vacation Bible School. Our motivation was less faith than Mom’s desire for a quiet house during July and August. The children held a recital when VBS ended and sang this little ditty: Somewhere in Outer Space God has prepared a place For those who love him and obey. Jesus will come again, Even though we don’t know when, THE COUNTDOWN’S GETTING SHORTER EVERY DAY! “The countdown’s getting shorter every day!” With those few words a harmless children’s hymn explodes into warning. What child has not heard the countdown litany of “Ten, nine, eight, seven . .?” He can finish the sequence for himself. Something is almost here. Almost upon him. Not quite yet, perhaps . but, almost. It is this psychic tension, telling even in a child’s rhyme, which enables eschatology to survive in evangelical American Protestant thought. Such tension is absent in American Catholicism or liberal Protestant thought. Although neither of those traditions explicitly repudiate the Second Advent, they relegate it to a sort of geological time and treat it as they might the Psalmist’s prediction that “Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain made low.” True enough -- but one needn’t time the process with a stopwatch. The “countdown” thus becomes so extended as to be meaningless in the faith-life of the laity. -
