Other Names Teras absumptana Walker, 1866 Teras miserana Walker, 1863 2.5. Diagnostic Notes **Adult** Wing-span 18-23 mm; forewings flat at rest. Forewing veins R4, R5 arising separately from discal cell; forewing pattern brownish grey markings on lighter grey/ash. **Male**: Costal fold ca half forewing length, fringed with long broad flat scales; abdomen appearing expanded and flattened apically; uncus expanded, hood-like, valva convoluted. **Female**: Abdomen apex also expanded with scales dorsally and ventrally, those ventrally (“corethrogyne” or “nailhead”) scales with broad apices; forewing vein R5 to termen; hindwing lacking a cubital pecten; genitalia with a strongly twisted ductus bursae and signum with a slender, upright capitulum. **Egg** Eggs are laid in masses surrounded by a "fence" of upright corethrogyne scales plucked and placed from her abdomen apex by the female. **Larva** Ultimate instar HC evenly dark brown; mandible outer margin evenly rounded, retinaculum (carina) vertical, with two apical teeth; PN marginally dark brown (to level of setae SD2-D2); forelegs brown-sclerotised; body creamy-pallid, faint SD stripe from T2 - A9, and A1-8 D pinacula paler than skin; A1 seta SD1 clearly posterodorsal to Spiracle 1; A8 seta SD1 at 11 o’clock to midpoint of Spiracle 8; A9 with setae D1, SD1 on separate, more or less circular pinacula and setae D2 on a rounded triangular pinaculum lacking anterior flecks; AS with distinct brown border, with seta SD2 base a conspicuous pale spot; setae D1, SD2 half as far apart as SD2 is from SD1, and SD2, SD1 bases pallid on the brown marginal band. **References** - Dugdale, J.S., Gleeson, D., Clunie, L.H., & Holder, P.W.
