Venturing in the Slipstream
VENTURING IN THE SLIPSTREAM THE PLACES OF VAN MORRISON’S SONGWRITING Geoff Munns BA, MLitt, MEd (hons), PhD (University of New England) A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Western Sydney University, October 2019. Statement of Authentication The work presented in this thesis is, to the best of my knowledge and belief, original except as acknowledged in the text. I hereby declare that I have not submitted this material, either in full or in part, for a degree at this or any other institution. .............................................................. Geoff Munns ii Abstract This thesis explores the use of place in Van Morrison’s songwriting. The central argument is that he employs place in many of his songs at lyrical and musical levels, and that this use of place as a poetic and aural device both defines and distinguishes his work. This argument is widely supported by Van Morrison scholars and critics. The main research question is: What are the ways that Van Morrison employs the concept of place to explore the wider themes of his writing across his career from 1965 onwards? This question was reached from a critical analysis of Van Morrison’s songs and recordings. A position was taken up in the study that the songwriter’s lyrics might be closely read and appreciated as song texts, and this reading could offer important insights into the scope of his life and work as a songwriter. The analysis is best described as an analytical and interpretive approach, involving a simultaneous reading and listening to each song and examining them as speech acts. -

ITCCK-Directory 2010-내용-20101119.Cdr
Message of the Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Massimo Andrea Leggeri, for the ITCCK Membership Directory Over two years have passed since the establishment of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, two years which have seen the Chamber successfully grow at a continuous pace and gradually enlarge its activities and membership. The ITCCK (not yet registered in Italy) is indeed a pivotal tool for several Italian and Korean business representatives, by providing them with meaningful support, connections and frameworks to create new opportunities for the increase of bilateral trade between Italy and Korea. Initiatives such as the proposal for an Italian Business Credit Card, food&wine business missions to Italy and Korea, IT delegations visiting Seoul are only some of those taking place in 2010 that I would like to recall. I am therefore pleased to salute the latest of those initiatives: the new Directory of the members of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, which comes at a very timely moment of the relations between both countries. The EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement will in fact entry into force in July 2011, paving the way for an increase of bilateral trade by at least 20%. Both sides will highly benefits from this long-waited step forward in the trade relations between Europe and South Korea and I am certain that the Chamber, through its Directory and its several other tools, will play a key role in assisting Italian and Korean entrepreneurs to fully benefit from the advantages that the FTA will bring. Other important events, the G20 Seoul Summit and the related B20, are also approaching in November 2010. -

Achille Castiglioni and Brothers. Master of Italian Design
Achille Castiglioni and brothers. Master of Italian Design Seoul Arts Center 17 January - 26 April 2020 Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto (Migliore + Servetto Architects) have carried out the curation and the exhibition design for the exhibition “Achille Castiglioni and brothers. Master of Italian Design”, at the Hangaram Art Museum in the Seoul Arts Center (SAC) in Seoul (South Korea). The exhibition has been organised by Project Collective Ltd. and Artmining and has the patronage of the Embassy of Italy to the Republic of Korea and it is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture. The partners and institutions supporting the exhibition are KonaCard, Hyundai Department Store, Duomo&co., a.tempo, rooming, Focusis and Lighting News. The exhibition is being promoted in collaboration with the Achille Castiglioni Foundation. Active in Milan since 2011 on the initiative of the family’s heirs, the Foundation preserves and passes on the memory of Achille and his brothers, sharing it with the public through a variety of initiatives and guided visits. "Achille Castiglioni and brothers" aims to investigate the contemporary nature and value of the lesson imparted by the Castiglioni brothers, Milanese architects and designers who were key figures in the history of design internationally. The curators Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto were Achille Castiglioni’s pupils at the Politecnico di Torino, then his assistants at the Politecnico di Milano. This closeness gave them the opportunity to share Castiglioni’s project vision, which they have been developed later. The exhibition is held within a space measuring more than 1000m2 and investigates the private side of Achille Castiglioni and his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo, delving into their family life and the activities of their studio, as well as the cultural dynamics that characterised Italy in those years. -
