This had some good moments. I did like the party Buffy threw and some lines in there. She has real roommates for now. I guess Buffy still has some youth left in her. The whole showdown with Buffy and the police was, oh Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 Volume 1: Freefall, this again? They ended the last season in a down and depressed place, but at least they are trying to correct their mistake in this one, but it might take all season to do so. There is a new This had some good moments. There is a new bad that Buffy takes care off. There are some fine moments, but nothing really inspired. Buffy gets arrested and blames for all these bodies the police have found of former vampires. On par with Season 8 of the series. I accidentally just devoured this. I literally picked it up from the library and the next thing I knew I was picking up volume two. Buffy, I've missed you and you're real world problems. Season Eight was a fantastical blast but we're getting back to the basics now. This is the blossoming of Buffy! I love it. Willow has no magic to draw on, vampires are turning feral, and demons are cut off from their home dimensions. The last one leads to the best scene in the book. The main drive of the story is watching Buffy try to build a normal life and fail completely. Great cliffhan Season eight of Buffy got a little too full of themselves No budget! Great cliffhanger at the end, too. The volume closes with a short comic about Spike's time with his insectoid alien friends, which is completely brilliant. The witches are left without their magic; the other slayers go back to being non-slayers; demons can't go back to their home dimensions Needless to say, not Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 Volume 1: Freefall is happy with Buffy. Buffy tries, somewhat unsuccessfully, to adapt to a somewhat normal life, taking on "normal" roommates and trying to determine a new world that she may not be needed quite as much.

When I say this, I don’t just mean that I am a fan of Joss Whedon. I am sincere. I live and breathe his works, the ever-expanding universe— sometimes funny, sometimes scary, and often heartbreaking—that he has created. A multi- talented writer, director and creator, Joss is responsible for television series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Firefly , Angel , and Dollhouse . In 2012 he collaborated with Drew Goddard, writer for Buffy and Angel , to bring us the satirical horror film The Cabin in the Woods . Most recently he has been integrated into the Marvel cinematic universe as the director of The Avengers franchise, as well as earning a creative credit for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. My love for Joss Whedon began in 1998. I was only eleven years old, and through an incredible moment of happenstance, and a bit of boredom, I turned the television channel to the WB and encountered my first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer . I was instantly smitten with Buffy Summers. She defied the rules and regulations of my conservative southern upbringing.

Consequently, no annual volume of the Minutes of General Assembly was published in 2020. The reports in this volume were originally prepared for the 2020 Commissioner Handbook in anticipation of the 2020 48th General Assembly. With the postponement of that Assembly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision was made to post the reports on the General Assembly website so our PCA people could be informed about the work of our General Assembly ministries throughout the 2019-20 year. They are now provided in this volume for informational purposes and the historical record of the denomination. Please note that the “Recommendations” at the end of these reports will not be acted upon until the 48th General Assembly meets. Matthew Pateman The University of Hull “YOU SAY TOMATO” Englishness in Buffy the Vampire Slayer After finally managing to have Lolita published, Vladimir Nabokov had to confront the various criticisms and concerns regarding his novel. Apart from the obvious attacks against its supposed immorality, Nabokov also had to contend with a range of interpretations that, for the great exponent of subtlety and care, seemed to be reductive and simplifying in the extreme. Among these was included a reading that tended to see the figure of Humbert as represen- tative of Old Europe and which read Lolita herself as synecdochic of America. Thus the novel becomes a tale of brash, crude, young America being debau- ched by the sophisticated but depraved and perverse Europe (Nabokov, “On a book entitled Lolita” 314). While there may be some critical interest in this reading, on its own it inevitably serves to reduce this colossally self-conscious, allusive, intelligent and moving work to the level of a rather blunt allegory. By only allowing the characters to act in one fashion, here as the ciphers of an al- legorical puzzle, the text loses much of its multiplicity and also the thematic, sympathetic and inter-personal resonances it should be allowed. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is not, of course, Lolita.

(1) Joss Whedon has often stated that each year of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was planned to end in such a way that, were the show not renewed, the finale would act as an apt summation of the series so far. This was obviously truer of some years than others – generally speaking, the odd-numbered years were far more clearly possible endings than the even ones, offering definitive closure of a phase in Buffy’s career rather than a slingshot into another phase. Both Season Five and Season Seven were particularly planned as artistically satisfying conclusions, albeit with very different messages – Season Five arguing that Buffy’s situation can only be relieved by her heroic death, Season Seven allowing her to share, and thus entirely alleviate, slayerhood. Being the Chosen One is a fatal burden; being one of the Chosen Several Thousand is something a young woman might live with. (2) It has never been the case that endings in Angel were so clear-cut and each year culminated in a slingshot ending, an attention-grabber that kept viewers interested by allowing them to speculate on where things were going. Season One ended with the revelation that Angel might, at some stage, expect redemption and rehumanization – the Shanshu of the souled vampire – as the reward for his labours, and with the resurrection of his vampiric sire and lover, Darla, by the law firm of Wolfram & Hart and its demonic masters (‘To Shanshu in LA’, 1022).

The first issue was released on March 14,[2] and the final issue of the arc was released on June 6, Buffy is leading a squad of Slayers —including three named LeahRowenaand Satsu —in a raid on a large, dilapidated church protected by a forcefield. She reveals that there are at least Slayers now active, of whom are working with the Scooby Gang spread over ten squads. There are two Slayers posing as decoys of her, lest she become an easy target; one literally underground and another in Rome publicly partying and dating the Immortal. Working with Xanderwho is running things at Slayer headquarters in Scotland Buffy refers to him as a Volume 1 despite his objections with a team of computer workers, psychics and mystics, including a Slayer named Renee, Buffy Volume 1 her squad find three monstrous demons. There are also three dead humans. The demons are killed in battle. The humans have odd symbols carved in their chest and there are nearby automatic weapons. Buffy tells Xander to send a copy of the symbol to Giles Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8, when another Slayer finds the machine that generated the force field, also presumably belonging to the victims. There is a shadowed spy nearby.
