A Collection of Texts Celebrating Joss Whedon and His Works Krista Silva University of Puget Sound, [email protected]
Student Research and Creative Works Book Collecting Contest Essays University of Puget Sound Year 2015 The Wonderful World of Whedon: A Collection of Texts Celebrating Joss Whedon and His Works Krista Silva University of Puget Sound, [email protected] This paper is posted at Sound Ideas. http://soundideas.pugetsound.edu/book collecting essays/6 Krista Silva The Wonderful World of Whedon: A Collection of Texts Celebrating Joss Whedon and His Works I am an inhabitant of the Whedonverse. When I say this, I don’t just mean that I am a fan of Joss Whedon. I am sincere. I live and breathe his works, the ever-expanding universe— sometimes funny, sometimes scary, and often heartbreaking—that he has created. A multi- talented writer, director and creator, Joss is responsible for television series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Firefly , Angel , and Dollhouse . In 2012 he collaborated with Drew Goddard, writer for Buffy and Angel , to bring us the satirical horror film The Cabin in the Woods . Most recently he has been integrated into the Marvel cinematic universe as the director of The Avengers franchise, as well as earning a creative credit for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. My love for Joss Whedon began in 1998. I was only eleven years old, and through an incredible moment of happenstance, and a bit of boredom, I turned the television channel to the WB and encountered my first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer . I was instantly smitten with Buffy Summers. She defied the rules and regulations of my conservative southern upbringing. -

Signature Date: 17/12/2020 ii iii ABSTRACT Since the development of the superhero genre in the late 1930s it has been a contentious area of cultural discourse, particularly concerning its depictions of gender politics. A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism. -

2019-2020 Reports of the Permanent Committees and Agencies and Special Committees of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America
2019-2020 REPORTS OF THE PERMANENT COMMITTEES AND AGENCIES AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AMERICA Submitted for the FORTY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AMERICA June 16-29, 2020 Birmingham, Alabama POSTPONED Until Date to be Decided Published by the Office of the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America Lawrenceville, Georgia 2020 PREFACE Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that emerged in the United States in early 2020, the 48th General Assembly, scheduled to meet June 16-29, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama, was postponed until a date to be decided later. Consequently, no annual volume of the Minutes of General Assembly was published in 2020. The reports in this volume were originally prepared for the 2020 Commissioner Handbook in anticipation of the 2020 48th General Assembly. With the postponement of that Assembly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision was made to post the reports on the General Assembly website so our PCA people could be informed about the work of our General Assembly ministries throughout the 2019-20 year. They are now provided in this volume for informational purposes and the historical record of the denomination. Please note that the “Recommendations” at the end of these reports will not be acted upon until the 48th General Assembly meets. Each of the Permanent Committees and Agencies and other GA committees will submit a new report for the rescheduled 48th General Assembly with new Recommendations. Note also that the Committee and Agency budgets included in the Administrative Committee report have not been approved because of the postponement of General Assembly. -

Spike/Xander Rating: NC17/Slash Spoilers: Through Btvs Season 6 Ep “Hell’S Bells”
Pairing: Spike/Xander Rating: NC17/Slash Spoilers: Through BtVS season 6 ep “Hell’s Bells”. Notes: Fluff, the whole fluff, and nothing but the fluff. Written in response to The Batpack Wank Fanfic Challenge 2003 in honor of National Masturbation Month. Feedback: It’s ALL about the feedback (and naked Spike)! Don’t make me beg, it’s not pretty. Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters, just borrowing them for awhile. Everything belongs to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, Kuzui Enterprises, Grr Argh, the WB, UPN, Fox, and whomever else they really belong to, although I wouldn’t mind having a Spike of my own. Who would? The story is mine, though. Thanks: Tammy, for the beta, and for being a wonderful bud. Dedication: To Gabrielle, who credits me, and this series in particular, for her new S/X obsession, and whose feedback is inspiring Women Suck by Spikedluv 1 Women Suck Summary: Spike shows Xander that he doesn’t need women...for anything. Written: June 2, 2003 Xander sat at the bar drinking his third beer. Now that he was old enough, he could legally drink his sorrows away. God, life sucked, he thought miserably. He wished... No, wait, wishing was bad. You never knew who might be listening. He carefully looked over his shoulder, and then surveyed the bar, looking for his ex-fiancé—the ex- ex-vengeance demon, patron demoness of women scorned, or some such, one of which she was now, or again—or her ‘justice demon’ friend, Halfrek. He didn’t see either one of them, but still, better safe than sorry. -
