When the portal is opened, Voll has already set up a high powered energy cannon to blast anyone on the other side of the wormhole. Comic book fans since I love to spoil you guys rotten I thought i'd give you all another review only this one wasn't one of the books that I mentioned in a previous post. The plot of this book is Buffy and her friends have now formed there own secret army with dozens of other slayers and witches but there's an evil witch out there who wants them dead and will stop at nothing to do it. Ok getting the obvious out of the way early you have to be fan of the Buffy TV show in order to understand what's going on with that said I honestly thought that the story in this first arc was honestly pretty weak and I honestly thought that it would have been better if the storyline here was the whole series and not just the first four issues. Now not only do you need to be a fan of the show in order to understand certain things said in this book it's also set around a year after the season 7 finale. So this book takes place in the year I mention all of this because the season 7 finale "Chosen" does kind of play a part in this opening arc since we do see the aftermath of that episode Volume 1 i'm not going to spoil since it's honestly a really good episode and one that that should be checked out. What honestly shocked me is that alot of characters who were main characters in not only the final season of the show but also the show as a whole aren't present in this Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8. Now granted one of them does make an appearance in the next arc but you'd think that given how popular those characters were in the show that they'd be present at least in the few opening panels. Having those characters not appear Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 work because Volume 1 story really doesn't allow for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 to be there but a quick line of dialog would have been nice. The writer for this opening arc is actually show creator Joss Wheadon and that for me is a good thing because who else would know these characters better then the person who created them in the first place. Writing wise it's the kind of writing that you'd expect from Joss and while not a bad thing in anyway it would have been better if more time was given to the characters and more time setting up this new world. Now here I would Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 say that the artwork isn't that good well here it actually is pretty good OK it's not the best artwork out there all of the characters do look like there TV counterpart which is very hard to do but I got the feeling that he didn't really put his own mark on the characters. There was one thing that didn't get resolved in this arc and it's something that really did bug the hell out of me. For some Dawn Buffy's sister has been learning magic from one of Buffy's friends and has turned herself into a giant. Now i'll admit I havn't seen the show in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 while but from what I recall Dawn was never learning magic and they don't either show or tell us if they turned Dawn back to normal or not I don't know why that second one really bugged me but it did. Not only does this issue have ties to the end of the show's finale but it also ties it self into season 6 and also the first season with the character of Amy. When I said that you need to be a fan of this series I really wasn't kidding because they'll reference the most obscure thing and even the character of Amy is a little known character i'm not going to reveal what the connection is to season 6 because it's honestly pretty freaking cool. Again something that they don't explain in this arc but something that might get explained in future arc's is the fact that Willow has been away from the main group for quite sometime. That to me is honestly quite interesting because we know from the show that she's one of the strongest witches out there so it makes you wonder what she could possibly be up to that would require her to be away from her friends for such a long time. As for what I thought about the action it's the type of action that one would expect from Buffy so if you liked the action that was seen in the show then you'll love the action in this opening arc. I Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 tho thought that the action was just an excuse to include jokes mostly because at least once or twice during an action scene someone would tell a joke and while that might work in a TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 it just didn't work for me. Overall this wasn't a bad opening arc it does a fairly good job of setting up the main villain for this season but tho it fails at telling a good story and that should be have been more important at least in my opinion so this arc gets a 5 out of 10 from me. As a big Buffy and Joss Whedon fan, I really, really wanted to love this and expected to be giving it five stars, but I was somewhat disappointed. First, the good -- it's a fun and fast-paced read, the art is excellent overall, and it's of course great to see these characters again. Whedon's patented snappy dialog is in full Volume 1, providing several awesome Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 moments. Small things that bothered Volume 1 Amy and a bizarrely resurrected Warren are not the most interesting villians; likewis Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 a big Buffy and Joss Whedon fan, I really, really wanted to love this and expected to be giving it five stars, but I was somewhat disappointed. Small things that bothered me: Amy and a bizarrely resurrected Warren are not the most interesting villians; likewise general Voll is a disappointingly stereotypical military villian; Willow's 'insta-heal' thing seemed like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 trick. But the big problem is Whedon's usually brilliant balance between plot and character-development seems off. I think his excitement over using the 'unlimited budget' of the medium allowing him to stage huge set-pieces he never could on TV causes the relationships to take a back seat. The story with the most emotional resonance is the fifth one, which features none of the main characters. Also, the thing that made the Buffy series great was the friction between the demands of real-life and the demands of super-hero duty. Here, the characters simply ARE super-heroes, and there's only a bit of real-life stuff happening Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 the side to relate to. Even so, I feel pretty confident Whedon will rectify this as Season 8 continues and the characters get some more breathing-room. View 1 comment. Jun 10, Virginia Cavanillas rated it it was amazing Shelves: comicgeneral-fantasypaperback. Reading about Buffy season 8, written or supervised by Whedon himself is kinda dream for my inner nerd. Because that nerd is pretty alive and proud. As alive as Buffy Anne Summers, profesional slayer, is. Everything ended like this: And now it starts with a complete blast, outstanding Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 and a fabulous setting. And of course the same old evil some things never change Also, another super pro to read it, is that in this first volumen they clarify some shit said about Buffy in Angel Season 5, so happy nerdy camper here. Jan 13, Helen Power rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy. I'd started this volume a few Volume 1 ago, but I stopped. It just doesn't feel like Buffy to me. That's not to say it isn't good. It is. But it's a lot more grandiose with huge settings and even more ridiculous plot ideas. They bring back a few too many old characters from the TV show that might have been better off left buried, or, at the very least, brought back more gradually. That said, issue 5 is this volume's saving grace. We get to follow one of Buffy's doubles - a slayer who is pretending to be Buffy, using her name to scare bad guys. Finally, a Potential that I can actually stand! The story is heartbreaking, reminding me a little of Neil Gaiman's Sandman in how its a standalone story embedded in a series and its sole purpose is to explore a theme about how a name can be power. Simply calling herself Buffy gives this unnamed Slayer strength against the that she's been assigned to fight. This issue bumped the volume up a whole extra star for my rating! Dec 29, Wren fablesandwren rated it really liked it Shelves: not-shelvedstars. I thought this was hilarious. For example, here is Dawn as a giant. Ummm, a few friends are back and they don't Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Long Way Home Season 8 Buffy and team up with some evil that we know nothing about besides that they are evil. The last issue was super sad and I will never read that one again. It's Buffy guys, just read it. You know it's enjoyable. Josh Whedon, as usual, will break your heart and mend it with the comical sarcasm that we all know and love. The humor that was in the show is still in the comics. It is worth I thought Volume 1 was hilarious. It is worth a read. It's the Scooby Gang times a thousand because we have so many more slayers now. I read this maybe ten years or more ago, but now the fam has watched the whole series, we told them season eight picks up right where season seven left off, Joss Whedon writing, so here we go. I gave it three stars then and say the same thing now. The art work was just ok YA art mania and colors, the writing had glimpses of the old Whedon snark and flash, but was over all forgettable, lacking in focus. The adult Scoobies managing a multiplying team of slayers, okay, we'll see, everyone is readin I read this maybe ten years or more ago, but now the fam has watched the whole series, we told them season eight picks up right where season seven left off, Joss Whedon writing, so here we go. Still as fun as before. My wife is watching buffy for the first time I finally got her to watch it and I felt like actually trying to catch up on the comic world of buffy since it's like 12 fucking seasons long now. So this takes place after a crap load of Slayer's are now with Buffy. Also, Dawn is a giant after having sex. Oh and Willow is still going around being a witchy witch. Xander is now like Nick fury too, but we all knew that would happen. Good: So the good fight is still t A re-read.
