Tuesday group devised a drama about a teenager who runs away from home after the relationship with her vain and selfish stepmother breaks down. She finds shelter in a derelict house and is befriended by a group of homeless people who explain how they became homeless and warn Lucy, played by Saskia Gravett, of the perils of living on the streets. In the meantime, the stepmother, realising the error of her ways since her husband’s death, is frantic with concern and remorse. She calls her friends for advice. Urged on by the homeless people to return home, Lucy is reunited with her stepmother. They all live happily ever after. The Thursday group provided a comedy play based on a father, played by Aniki Bailey, who turns the excite- ment of a holiday into a series of catastrophes. From flushing his mobile phone down the toilet to booking flights to Iraq instead of Italy, he is a liability! At the end of the play he is arrested for a mistaken translation, and though the mother, played by Evelyn Foy, is relieved to have a break without him, the children and grandparents plead with their mother to explain to the authorities what has happened. They too live happily ever after! Many thanks to Year Five for being an attentive and appreciative audience. Miss Tendler

THE BIG BANG TRIP

On Tuesday 5th July 13 chosen Year 8 students went to Poole College to learn and discover the different elements of Science and found out some of our options if we go to college in the near future.

We did activities like learning about (STEM) using; biology and our tastebuds, physics and magnets, chemistry and gases with their pollution; and lots more.

One of my favourite activities was making bath bombs with LUSH reps and learning how the chemicals react to fizz and make beautiful colours and bubbles in our baths. I couldn’t choose a dislike because I enjoyed them all and would happily do it again if given the chance.

THE BIG BANG AT BOURNEMOUTH AND POOLE COLLEGE

On Tuesday 5th July 13 Year 8 students went to Bournemouth and Poole College to take part in their annual ‘Big Bang Event’. Luckily, I was one of these 13 pupils chosen.

At the event, we did activities based on their STEM department (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Throughout the day, we took part in some activities such as: Landing planes on a boat, testing our senses, working on a boat, making a bottle holder, calculating a holiday trip, sport, biology, chemistry and physics.

My favourite activity was when we blew up a balloon with the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. The balloon inflated as a result of the carbon dioxide being ‘let off’. This was my favourite as it was fun and interesting to watch. I don’t have a least favourite activity as they were all fun and I would definitely do it again if I was given the opportunity.

By Rebecca Bilson, 8D Gabby’s Hair Donation

Last Tuesday, Gabby M-S in Year 8 showed great courage, determination and compassion by having her hair, which she had allowed to grow for many years, cut short for charity. She raised over £450, an incredible amount. The money raised will be donated to LEAF, a local leukaemia charity. LEAF provides support to individuals and families as well as providing equipment to Cancer Centre. The hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust who supply beautiful real hair wigs. The hair donations are sent to a factory and blended with at least five other donations to make one single wig.

Gifted and Talented day for Maths at Corfe Hills School

At the end of June, me and 15 other children from Year 5 went to Corfe Hills School to take part in a Maths day. Throughout the day we took part in challenges in groups of 4 (mixed BMS and Lockyers School). We earned points for our excellent mental maths. The first challenge was a treasure hunt which really made us think. The second challenge was a quiz, which my team came 1st in. The third challenge involved art as well as maths. We had to build a tower and won points for: the tallest tower, the strongest tower, the prettiest tower and the cheapest tower. We were given a set amount of “money” and spent it on the materials we had available. At the end of the day, the top 3 teams with the most points got a chocolate prize. It was a great day and I had a lot of fun! Ella B 5C Corfe Hills Fashion Show 2016

On the 27th June, pupils took part in the annual fashion show at Corfe Hills School. The show is an opportunity for local schools to showcase their skills learnt in Textiles by designing and making their own costumes. After many months of sewing, pupils took to the catwalk to model their creations, along with Corfe Hills School, , , Lockyer’s Middle School and Allenbourn Middle School.

Our theme was Alice in Wonderland and designers/models taking part this year were:

Tilly B 7V Jasper C 8P Kiana P 8P Kate B 7H Jade D 7V Anjum T Jess B 8D Joshua G 8P Adriana T 8P Connie C 5W Beaux H 7H Francesca T 8D Lilly-Anne C 8L Lauren P 8D Izzy W 8M

Thank you to all our amazing pupils who took part. They worked tirelessly on their costumes for months and behaved like true professionals throughout all the rehearsals and on the big night. The evening was a huge success and it was definitely our best show to date! It was a pleasure to work with our talented pupils and I am incredibly proud of all of them!

I would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Evans, who gave up so much of her time to support us with her skill and expertise.

Well done to everyone who took part and keep up the good work!

Miss de Looze English Story by Aniki B

This is an excerpt from Aniki’s story which is being published in the Broadstone Link magazine.

A mere wasteland was all that remained. No life existed in this land ravaged by war. The product of human greed and vengeance had destroyed them. Bodies lay strewn on the ground; all life robbed from them. Cannonball after cannonball had left craters in the land, smoke spiralling up from them like a funeral for the very Earth itself. The sky was tainted grey by the smoke, and the once vibrant fields of gold, silver, blue, red, pink, ruby hues and emerald grass was brown, brown with mud and filth. No one would ever come to carry the bodies away. They would crumble, forgotten and unwanted, into the arms of death. But unmistakeably, miraculously, there was movement. This waste of human life and tangle of souls had offered movement to the lost land of England. Suddenly, it was like a vortex of pain and longing had been released. Those who have wisdom enough to recognise it would have seen thousands of ghosts departing to their own personal afterlife; their souls laid to rest knowing there were survivors. Sadly, no one would ever know their fathers were watching over them, or that their brothers knew they were alive. Even worse, no one ever considered it, except for the first survivor. Trembling, a young girl rose. She couldn’t have been older than 17, but her face was bleak enough to have seen the end of the world. Her legs were buried under mud and destruction, but her heart was buried under even more weight. Her eyes furiously scanned the land around her, as if trying to pick out someone in a crowd that wasn’t there. She looked like she was accustomed to fear and yet unaccustomed to it at the same time. It was impossible to tell if her hair was brown or just stained brown by the earth. Her eyes were also brown, but they also looked shattered, like she had seen the end of the world but couldn’t do a thing about it. Transfer Day

Transfer day saw the excitement of 128 Year 4 children embark on the next chapter in their school life. After meeting teachers and getting settled in class, the first challenge was to build the highest newspaper tower. There were some great ideas, those with sturdy bases being the most effective and Mrs Dale’s class looked like they had the best freestanding towers! Breaktime over, pupils were then given a tour of the school with some of our year 6 students, who tested them on where to find certain areas. Apparently no one got lost! It was then out onto the field for our “krypton factor” obstacle course. Classes rotated around stations, working as teams and manoeuvring various objects. A chance for all year 5 teachers to meet all of the year 5 children. The final activity was to decorate flower pots and take home seeds to grow which represents what the children will be doing as they move into Year 5. The day ended with an assembly which saw Mrs Williamson name every single year 5 student from memory (and yes no name tags)! An excellent and enjoyable day was had by all.

Year 8 Leavers’ Event at Tower Park To celebrate the end of their time at BMS, Year 8 pupils enjoyed a fantastic trip out to Splashdown and the Hollywood Bowl at Tower Park on Friday. Great fun was had by all and they are now looking forward to their official leavers’ event on Tuesday evening where they will enjoy live music, a barbecue, photo booth, sweet stall and disco. Although it is always sad to see them go, the Year 8s are now more than ready to move on and embrace the many exciting challenges and opportunities offered by the next stage in their educational journey. We wish them every success for the adventure ahead. Mr Yeates
