HEICHAL HATORAH is dedicated to providing a classic yeshiva education and superior general studies program with excitement, warmth and passion for growth. Welcome to Heichal HaTorah! As we enter our sixth year, we are grateful to Hashem that the dreams we set out to achieve have come to fruition. Our cherished graduates have distinguished themselves in their communities as fine men of exemplary character. These budding talmidei chachamim are now learning in the most renowned yeshivos in Israel. Their academic achievements have enabled them to be accepted to the finest Jewish colleges, many with well-deserved scholarships. We have this same vision and hope for all 102 of our current talmidim. At Heichal, we focus on encouraging our young men to grow in their davening and avodas Hashem. Our outstanding rebbeim, all renowned talmidei chachamim, warmly encourage our talmidim to become passionately committed to Torah learning. We are extremely proud of the 22 talmidim who reviewed the entire bekius masechta during their summer vacation. Rabbi Ronnie Malavsky, our Assistant Dean and Principal of General Studies, has worked tirelessly to enhance our first-rate general studies faculty, which is comprised of carefully selected veteran educators. Our small and tracked classes maximize the attention paid to the learning needs of each student. This year we introduced a robust STEM department under the auspices of veteran educator, Dr. Joel Berman, who has brought our science and math offerings to the forefront of cutting-edge education. We were also selected by the renowned Tikvah Fund to pilot their new neo-classical literature and history course. Every Heichal student has unique qualities and strengths. Our yeshiva’s goal is to guide each student to develop his full potential. Mentoring each student and tracking their four-year growth trajectory is the most meaningful part of my day. I sincerely hope that you will allow me the privilege of partnering with you in the chinuch of your son. We strive to develop our talmidim into true b’nei Torah who view life through the prism of Torah. Our rigorous limudei kodesh curriculum of Gemara, iyun and bekius, as well as Chumash, Halachah, Machshavah, and Chassidus, gives the talmidim the skills to learn on their own. Our goal is to provide an inspirational Yeshiva experience and ensure that our talmidim develop a love for Torah learning that will continue to grow for the rest of their lives. GENERAL STUDIES 09 Heichal’s rigorous General Studies curriculum exceeds the State of New Jersey requirements. Small, tracked classes enable each student to excel in the core, elective and Advanced Placement courses. These courses prepare students for the SAT and ACT exams and their college careers. Accepted into the colleges of their choice, Heichal graduates have been awarded substantial academic scholarships. PERSONALIZED GROWTH 15 The development and growth of each of our students is integral to the Heichal mission. Our rebbeim, faculty, and guidance professionals dedicate individual attention to each talmid in order to guide their academic, spiritual and emotional growth. Our small tight-knit yeshiva environment affords the talmidim the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with their rebbeim, faculty, guidance counselors and administrators. SAMUELS Introduction The Torah enjoins us numerous times concerning the mitzvah of Ahavat ha-Ger,1 which literally means the love of the stranger or sojourner, though is primarily understood in Jewish legal sources to refer more specifically to loving the convert to Judaism.2 Furthermore, the Torah commands us that “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18), and also charges us to love God (Deuteronomy 6:4), creating multiple duties of love as halakhic obligations. This article will explore the question: When does the duty to love the convert commence and does it impact the con- version process? Does it apply only to a newly converted Jew, or to a Noahide who is in the process of converting, or even to a Gentile who has expressed an interest in converting? Tosafos immediately ask the obvious question: from that pasuk we see actually see the opposite: that the reader should n ot speak more loudly than the interpreter. We know, says Rav Levi Yitzchok, that Moshe’s nevua (prophecy) was different from that of the other nevi’im (prophets) in that “the Shechina was speaking through Moshe’s throat”. This means that the interpretation of the nevuos of the other nevi’im is not dependent on the comprehension of the people who hear it. The nevua arrives in this world in the mind of the novi and passes through the filter of his perspectives. The resulting message is the essence of the nevua. When Moshe prophesied, however, it was as if the Shechina spoke from his throat directly to all the people on their particular level of understanding. Consequently, his nevuos were directly accessible to all people. In this sense then, Moshe was the rea der of the nevua , and Hashem was the interpreter.
