The Sicilian Maia in the 1960s/70s

Leonardo Sciascia author ( of Il giorno della civetta, 1962), in his essay 'La maia' (1957): Il fatto è che in Sicilia la maia è una forza: indubbiamente in conati di sopravvivenza, a meno che non riesca a portare a completamento e a perfezione ione la trasformaz che pare sia in atto. The fact is that the Maia in is still powerful a force: it’s certainly struggling to survive unless it manages to accomplish its current transformation. If from the latifundia it manages to migrate and consolidate inside the , cities if it manages to attach itself to the regional , bureaucracies if it manages to iniltrate society.
