More filters. Sort order. Nov 14, Lisa rated it liked it. I didn't love this book or hate it. I think that I was just surprised on the lay out of the book. I thought that this was going to be a history of different hats that this designer has done, instead this was more of a biography of this designer. That was my bad. I did enjoy the book, I had myself a laugh on the different hats. Who would ever thought that women would go around with those things on their heads. Some were classy most were just really gaudy and quite ugly. I guess that I just wanted I didn't love this book or hate it. I guess that I just wanted more out of this book. A beautiful book filled with plenty of pictures of the gorgeous creations of Madame Paulette, one of the greatest designers in the history of Haute Mode. Following her life and career from her first sales during the Jazz Age to her final works in collaboration with Claude Montana and Thierry Mugler in the s, this book delves into Paulette's incredible talent in working with Hats by Madame Paulette: Paris Milliner Extraordinaire only the materials used in her craft but also the high society, royal, and celebrity clients which wore her hats. P A beautiful book filled with plenty of pictures of the gorgeous creations of Madame Paulette, one of the greatest designers in the history of Haute Mode. Paulette's understanding of the human form and the human personality as well as straw, fabrics, feathers, net, and jewels is what lead her to become so incredibly successful, her works gracing the head of British and Egyptian royalty as well as Rita Hayworth, Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Eva Peron, and Rose Kennedy. She is not only responsible for the popularity of the turban in the s, the capeline in the s, and the pillbox in the s, but she is also responsible for the amazing hats and headpieces seen alongside Cecil Beaton's Academy Award Winning costumes in the films "Gigi" and "My Fair Lady". She was hired to create pieces to accompany the fashions of many Haute Couture designers, including Madame Gres. Her masterpieces still appear in museums around the world. A great book, about a great woman, who made great works of art which were also functional and fashionable. A definite must read for fashion lovers. In addition to the wonderful photos of stunning models and actresses wearing truly head turning creations, the book tells the story of Madame Paulette's life and career which in turn offers us a cultural history of haute couture, Paris during the years of WWII and after, and the rapid growth and changes in the fashion industry during the midth century.     Press Release THIERRY MUGLER: COUTURISSIME April 3 – August 30, 2020 For the first time in Germany, the Kunsthalle München is presenting an exhibition about the French creator Thierry Mugler. It is initiated, produced and circulated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Maison Mugler. The exhibition is curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot under the direction of Nathalie Bondil, Director General and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This spectacularly staged retrospective presents the multifaceted work of this visionary couturier, director, photographer and perfumer. It showcases more than 150 haute couture and prêt-à-porter outfi ts, stage costumes and accessories, videos, photographs, design sketches, and archival material created between 1977 and 2014. Some 100 works by famous fashion photographers who have staged Mugler’s creations, from Helmut Newton (1920–2004) to David LaChapelle (*1963), round out the exhibition. In the early 1970s, Mugler, who was trained as a classical ballet dancer, revolutionized fashion by countering the fl owing bohemian looks of the hippie era with morphological and futuristic cuts as well as sculptural, elegant, and form-fi tting silhouettes. With his designs, Mugler lent heroic strength to the people he once described as “fragile, beautiful creatures”.
