lyrics When routine bites hard and ambitions are low And resentment rides high but emotions won't grow And we're changing our ways taking different roads Then love, love will tear us apart again Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side Is my timing that flawed our respect run so dry? Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives Love, love will tear us apart again You cry out in your sleep - all my failings expose There's a taste in my mouth, as desperation takes hold Just that something so good just can't function no more When love, love will tear us apart again chords EADGBE Em 022000 Em7- 02203X D XX0232 Dsus4 XX0233 Dmaj9 XX0230 Bm XX4432 (or 224432) A 002220 Riff #1: Em D Dsus4 D Dmaj9 Em7- A Riff #2: Em D Dsus4 D Dmaj9 Bm A Riff #1 is based on the tab e 0----2-3-2--0-------- b -----------------3----- g ----------------------2 lyrics/chords Em D Dsus4 D Dmaj9 When .. Time Will Crawl: Representation of 1980s Cold War Culture and Politics in Popular Music in the West By Alex Robbins Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in History University of Portland December 2017 Robbins 1 The Cold War represented more than a power struggle between East and West and the fear of mutually assured destruction. Not only did people fear the loss of life and limb but the very nature of their existence came into question. While deemed the “cold” war due to the lack of a direct military conflict, battle is not all that constitutes a war. A war of ideas took place. Despite the attempt to eliminate outside influence, both East and West felt the impact of each other’s cultural movements.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

THE CHRONOTOPE OF WALKING IN THE FILMS OF ANDREA ARNOLD LANCE HANSON BA (Hons), MA, PGCE A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of the University of Wolverhampton for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. At this date copyright is owned by the author. Signature……Lance Hanson………… Date………January 3rd 2021…………….. 1 Abstract This thesis proposes that the act of walking functions as a dominant chronotope in the work of British filmmaker Andrea Arnold. Using Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept (1988), it demonstrates how walking mobilises a reading of the landscape and the female body that articulates their combined resistance to hegemonic narratives of exclusion and deprivation. Furthermore, by examining its chronotopicity, the function of walking as a discrete element is analysed to reveal its narrative, aesthetic, and contextual significance. Whilst previous studies of the cinematic flâneuse are restricted mainly to European and art-house cinema and their middle class protagonists, this thesis focuses attention on less affluent female characters whose walking takes place not in the metropolis but in the edgelands, suburbs, and social housing estates that constitute the contemporary built environment, along with Arnold’s depiction of the harsh rural landscape of nineteenth-century Yorkshire in Wuthering Heights (2011).

  • Place and Punk: the Heritage Significance of Grunge in the Pacific North West
Place and Punk: The heritage significance of Grunge in the Pacific North West William Kenneth Smith MA By Research University of York Archaeology May 2017 Abstract Academic institutions and the heritage industry are now actively seeking to understand the wider social, cultural and economic processes which surround the production and consumption of popular music histories. Music is a local creation; it is created through a flux of internal and external influences, and is bound up in questions of economy, networks, art, identity and technology. In the early 1990s the Pacific North West of the United States of America gave birth to what became known as the musical genre of ‘grunge’. It developed into a distinctive genre, presenting a style and sound which propagated within the confines of a specific time and place. As construction sites continue to emerge throughout the Pacific North West, the impact of music still provides an essential contribution to the regions character and culture. Despite this, countercultural pasts are vulnerable; not only to the passage of time but also the processes of development, gentrification and marginalization. This research explores the heritage significance of the Pacific North West punk scene. It presents a historiography of punk and an appraisal of the scholarly discourse surrounding place. This study utilizes artifacts, sites and oral histories to explore countercultural material and memories as well as the form and function of punk. Themes such as geography and environment are enfranchised into the discussion as ethnography and multidisciplinary approaches are applied to make a unique contribution to what is an essential and timely discussion regarding people, culture, heritage and place.
