The Apocalyptic Book List Presented by: The Post Apocalyptic Forge Compiled by: Paul Williams ([email protected]) As with other lists compiled by me, this list contains material that is not strictly apocalyptic or post apocalyptic, but that may contain elements that have that fresh roasted apocalyptic feel. Because I have not read every single title here and have relied on other peoples input, you may on occasion find a title that is not appropriate for the intended genre....please do let me know and I will remove it, just as if you find a title that needs to be added...that is appreciated as well. At the end of the main book list you will find lists for select series of books. Title Author 8.4 Peter Hernon 905 Tom Pane 2011, The Evacuation of Planet Earth G. It is a foundational event in American history, but it began as an English story, which pioneered the idea of religious freedom. The illegal underground movement of Protestant separatists from Elizabeth I’s Church of England is a story of subterfuge and danger, arrests and interrogations, prison and executions. It starts with Queen Mary’s attempts to burn Protestantism out of England, which created a Protestant underground. Later, when Elizabeth’s Protestant reforma- tion didn’t go far enough, radicals recreated that underground, meeting illegally throughout England, facing prison and death for their crimes. They went into exile in the Netherlands, where they lived in poverty—and finally to the New World. Historian Stephen Tomkins tells this fascinating story—one that is rarely told as an important piece of English, as well as American, history—that is full of contemporary relevance: religious violence, the threat to national security, freedom of religion, and tolerance of dangerous opinions.

Even with all the vast resources at my fingertips I was stumped until I had a conversation with some friends. This conversation sparked some interesting questions such as, where are our personal jet packs, where is our flying car? I knew immediately that this would be my theme. Have you ever been stuck in traffic? Frustrated by other drivers who can’t seem to get out of your way? I would imagine myself pressing a button on my dash and watching as wings and propellers would appear on my car much like “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang”. I would slowly rise up above the traffic and laugh at the cars still stuck in traffic as I soared above them. Then, I’d wake from my dream like state and realize I hadn’t moved an inch in the past 5 minutes.

These women escape their ordinary lives to live extraordinary ones at a horse farm perched at the edge of the world. If only for a short while. When they first come to Thingeyrar, these women are strangers to one another. The only thing they have in common is their passion for Icelandic horses. However, over the years, their relationships with each other deepen, as they grow older together and keep each other young. Combining the danger of Wild, the sense of place of Under the Tuscan Sun, and the self-discovery of Eat, Pray, Love, Wild Horses of the Summer Sun revels in Tory’s quest for the “wild” inside her. These women leave behind the usual troubles at home—affairs, sick parents, troubled teenagers, financial wor- ries—and embrace their desire for adventure.
