CEU eTD Collection 1 ABSTRACT This thesis aims to research the creation of Ilkhom as an experimental theatre studio under Komsomol Youth League and Theatre Society in the late Brezhnev era in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbek SSR. The research focuses on the controversies of the aims and objectives of these two patronage organizations, which provided an experimental studio with a greater freedom in choice of repertoire and allowed to obtain the status of one of the first non-government theaters on the territory of former Soviet Union. The research is based on the reevaluation of late- Soviet/early post-Soviet period in Uzbekistan through the repertoire of Ilkhom as an independent theatre-studio. The sources used include articles about theatre from republican and all-union press. An investigation of Russian literary tropes reveals that a surprisingly large number of Russian fictional characters are depicted as considering it more attractive and ethical to spend, waste, and lose, rather than save, keep, and retain. By tracing the development of these concepts in the long durée, this dissertation shows how willful self-emptying became part of Russian national self-identity.

    MALBA Cine Programación enero 2015 ----- CICLO Artkino en Malba — Durante todo el mes La empresa Artkino Pictures de la Argentina, fundada por Isaac Argentino Vainikoff, es la distribuidora independiente de mayor tradición en la historia de la exhibición cinematográfica de nuestro país. Haciendo base en su propia sala de cine -el Cataluña, luego reformado y rebautizado Cosmos 70- pero con llegada nacional, formó a varias generaciones de argentinos en un cine alternativo al de las majors norteamericanas. La fuente principal de su material fueron la Unión Soviética y el resto de los países que entonces integraban su órbita, pero Artkino trajo también films de directores como Herzog, Wenders, Bergman, Chabrol o Resnais, repuso clásicos del Neorrealismo italiano, estrenó el cine de la transición española y apoyó films argentinos independientes de salida comercial difícil, como Breve cielo de David Kohon o Mosaico de Néstor Paternostro. A diferencia de la inmensa mayoría de las distribuidoras cinematográficas, la familia Vainikoff conservó copias y negativos de la mayoría de los films que exhibió. Esa inmensa colección ha sido recientemente depositada en la Filmoteca Buenos Aires y ello permite realizar este ciclo en MALBA Cine, que abarcará dos meses y ochenta films emblemáticos. Películas: El acorazado Potemkin (Bronenosets Potiomkin, 1925) c/Aleksandr Antonov, Grigori Aleksandrov, Vladimir Barski, Mikhail Gomarov, Anton Levkin, Repnikova, Ivan Bobrov, Maroussov, Maxim Strauch. 80’ aprox. La rebelión de los marineros del Potemkin, durante junio de 1905, cuando el barco estaba anclado en el puerto de Odessa, fue históricamente un episodio menor. Mas graves habían sido, en los cinco meses previos, las manifestaciones populares en San Petersburgo (que el zar ordenó reprimir con fusilería) y los desórdenes en todo el país, que se extendieron hasta noviembre de ese año.

The Theater of Yuri Lyubimov, Art and Politics at the Taganka Theater in Moscow. By Alexander Gershkovich. Trans. Michael Yurieff. Paragon House, 1989. The Soviet years of Russia's theatrical life have produced relatively little in the way of great dramatic texts-playwrights are particularly susceptible to the wrath of the censor or the pressures of the political machine. The director, rather, has been the guiding spirit of twentieth-century Soviet theatre as it has frequently led the world in innovation and experimentation. Two recent books, one by Nick Worrall, the other by Alexander Gershkovich, attempt to place four directors in a historical context while critically evaluating their varying styles and approaches. Each author provides biographical information, excerpts from critical reviews, commentary from the directors themselves, photographs and sketches, timelines, and descriptions of significant productions. Although WorralPs scholarly and systematic style differs considerably from Gershkovich's more ebullient and laudatory writing, the books are both substantial complements to already-existing accounts of the work of the more famous Meyerhold and Stanislavsky. Worrall's text, Modernism to Realism on the Soviet Stage, devotes a chapter each to the directing careers of Alexander Tairov, Evgene Vakhtangov, and Nikolai Okhlopkov. Their names, while familiar still to Soviet theatregoers, are largely unknown to many theatre generalists who associate the post-revolutionary years in the Soviet Union with the rise and fall of Vsevolod Meyerhold. Indeed, the figure of Meyerhold hovers over the lives of these three men, influencing them in their struggles to create new forms for a new society.

La unión de la nación rusa tuvo diversas fórmulas, desde la fórmula imperial de la época zarista en la que no se reconocía la variedad de sus pueblos, la fórmula federalista de la Unión Soviética o la independencia actual de aquellas repúblicas en la que Rusia es la República Federativa de Rusia. Con una expansión territorial que comenzó a tomar forma con Iván el Terrible y que tuvo su mayor velocidad de expansión con Pedro I el Grande y Catalina II la Grande, su acontecer histórico, su permanencia, se debe a un constante y épico batallar contra adversarios muy diversos hasta 1945, tal como muestra este ciclo de cine. Desde los orígenes de Rusia con enfrentamientos con bizantinos y tártaros, hasta la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que causó entre 27 y 37 millones de muertes de ciudadanos soviéticos, civiles y militares, que supuso el momento en que más cerca estuvo Rusia de desaparecer, fueron suecos, turcos, franceses, japoneses, polacos, alemanes y coaliciones occidentales los principales adversarios del pueblo ruso.
