CHARLES N. HUBBARD, M.D.

Dr. Charles N. Hubbard grew up in Newnan, Ga. After graduation from the Newnan City School systems, he attended and graduated from Vanderbilt University but definitely not Phi Beta Chi! After his first year at the Medical College of Georgia, he married the love of his life, L Marilyn Merrell of Carrollton (GA). Graduating AOA three years later, he completed a surgical Internship at MCG and entered the US Army serving 2 yrs. in (West) Germany as a general medical officer. Following military service, Dr Hubbard trained at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. and subsequently joined the Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic in Western Georgia where for nearly 40 years, he practiced general orthopaedics with Drs. Ralph Fleck and Jubal Watts. Almost immediately he got involved in Georgia Orthopaedic Society serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President followed by 6 years on the AAOS Board of Councilors. He also served on the AAOS Publications Committee and worked diligently with numerous political campaigns as a voice of medicine. About 25 years ago, Hubbard saw a need for communication amongst all the Orthopaedic surgeons throughout the state. He urged for a newsletter to share ideas and keep the membership connected more than 4 days once a year. He was quickly told he should do it. He did the entire GOS newsletter for several years until an Executive Director was hired. He eventually became the GOS Editorialist. Dr Hubbard provided coverage for the Carrollton High School football program and the University of West Georgia football program for many years. Charlie was delighted to serve as President of the Campbell Club for its 100th Anniversary of Campbell Clinic. Active in Carrollton First United Methodist Church and Rotary, he now enjoys retirement, 6 grandchildren, 3 married children, and frequent golf and travel. 11 2019 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (SCIENTIFIC & SOCIAL)
