Eerste single van het album ‘Control’ is ‘Do I Ever’.

  • Harry Wills and the Image of the Black Boxer from Jack Johnson to Joe Louis
Harry Wills and the Image of the Black Boxer from Jack Johnson to Joe Louis B r i a n D . B u n k 1- Department o f History University o f Massachusetts, Amherst The African-American press created images o f Harry Will: that were intended to restore the image o f the black boxer afterfack fohnson and to use these positive representations as effective tools in the fight against inequality. Newspapers high lighted Wills’s moral character in contrast to Johnsons questionable reputation. Articles, editorials, and cartoons presented Wills as a representative o f all Ameri cans regardless o f race and appealed to notions o f sportsmanship based on equal opportunity in support o f the fighter's efforts to gain a chance at the title. The representations also characterized Wills as a race man whose struggle against boxings color line was connected to the larger challengesfacing all African Ameri cans. The linking o f a sportsfigure to the broader cause o f civil rights would only intensify during the 1930s as figures such as Joe Louis became even more effec tive weapons in the fight against Jim Crow segregation. • “Classic Deep Purple Live” Performed by Glen Hughes Keswick Theatre Friday, September 7
“CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE LIVE” PERFORMED BY GLEN HUGHES KESWICK THEATRE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 Glenn Hughes, former bassist and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock’, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the current front man for rock super group Black Country Communion is pleased to announce that he will be performing Deep Purple only material with his “CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE LIVE” at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA on Friday, September 7. The tour promises to be dynamic, a turn-back-the-clocks, two-hour live extravaganza homage to his tenure in MK 3 and MK 4 incarnations of Deep Purple - one of music history’s most seminal and influential rock and roll groups. "I'm excited to be touring the “Classic Deep Purple Live” in the US this year. I first toured Classic Deep Purple Live in Australia and New Zealand last year and it went down like a storm. We’re also touring the show throughout South America and international festivals throughout the summer. By the time we tour the US, then the UK in October, we’ll be on fire.” As well as Glenn on lead vocals and bass guitar, the touring band also features Soren Anderson (guitar), Jesper Bo Hansen (keyboards) and Fer Escobedo (drums) Deep Purple took a quantum leap when the then 20-year-old Glenn Hughes was seconded from British funk-rock outfit Trapeze in mid-1973. As bassist and co-vocalist (with David Coverdale), he helped steer the legendary rock group in the progressive direction of Burn (1974), Stormbringer (1974) and Come Taste the Band (1975), while touring the world for three years.

FREE IAN GILLAN: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF DEEP PURPLES SINGER PDF Ian Gillan | 288 pages | 08 Dec 2016 | John Blake Publishing Ltd | 9781786061355 | English | London, United Kingdom Ian Gillan - Caramba! Y ou might think Ian Gillan, at 75 years old, would be fed up with singing Smoke on the Water. It was even a slightly ill-fitting encore during his brief spell fronting Black Sabbath in the early 80s. He recalls the plight of Luciano Pavarotti, with whom he sang a couple of times, and who one day expressed his jealousy of Gillan getting to sing Smoke on the Water. We have to mimic our original interpretation. Which is unfortunate, because almost everyone who knows his work would describe Gillan as a hard-rock singer. Not least because he continues to front Deep Purple, who have just released Whoosh! A few years here, then on to something else. But we do pass messages, and the atmosphere is quite good. I was swatting at the air to wave away the smoke. It was pure Spinal Tap, a moment of panic. Then there was the Stonehenge stage set itself. Either the specifications had been in metres when they should have been in feet, or it was built at actual size. Either way, it was too big for many of the venues Sabbath were meant to play. The crowd reaction at that opening show was not the awe Sabbath had been hoping for. It was unbelievable. His autobiography suggests he spent a great deal of time either drinking or in search of drink, but he was a social drinker who drank to get drunk, rather than someone who needed a bottle next to him at all times, he says.
