On behalf of the HCCC and the board of directors, I would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the services rendered by the outgoing board and the executive committee members. On behalf of the organization I would like to extend our welcome to the newly elected three board members and one EC member “welcome aboard”. I mentioned in my previous column that our present chief priest Sri. Rompicharla Srinivasacharlu will be retiring at the end of March 2006. A gala retirement party with Veda Pathanam and cultural program function is at our temple. Please participate in this function with your family and friends to show our appreciation to this priest for the services he rendered to the HCCC and the temple over the past two decades. Sri Rama Navami function is scheduled for April 6th and 9th, the details of which are given in this Pachima Vani. We are expecting a large number of devotees to attend Sri Rama Navami celebrations. Please participate in the function with your family by becoming a sponsor. By this time either by word of mouth or by virtue of reading a local Indian Newspaper, you may be aware that the Pachaka/Archaka (religious cook) Gopala Krishna Machar at our Temple has filed a lawsuit against the HCCC/ Temple with some allegations. It is unfortunate that he has chosen this path. Even after he has filed a lawsuit against the Temple, HCCC management has engaged members from the community and well wishers for both sides with a mandate to resolve this matter in a reasonable and compassionate manner that will be fair to both sides. Unfortunately these efforts were not successful. HCCC has no other choice than to follow the legal path in order to protect our Temple, which has been serving for more than 20 years, the religious, social and cultural needs of many thousands of devotees. Having bowed down unto Narayana and Nara, the most exalted of male beings, and the goddess Saraswati, must the word Jaya be uttered. Janamejaya said, “After Karna had thus been slain in battle by Savyasachin, what did the small (unslaughtered) remnant of the Kauravas do, O regenerate one? Beholding the army of the Pandavas swelling with might and energy, what behaviour did the Kuru prince Suyodhana adopt towards the Pandavas, thinking it suitable to the hour? I desire to hear all this. Tell me, O foremost of regenerate ones, I am never satiated with listening to the grand feats of my ancestors.” Vaisampayana said, “After the fall of Karna, O king, Dhritarashtra’s son Suyodhana was plunged deep into an ocean of grief and saw despair on every side. Indulging in incessant lamentations, saying, ‘Alas, oh Karna! Alas, oh Karna!’ he proceeded with great difficulty to his camp, accompanied by the unslaughtered remnant of the kings on his side. Thinking of the slaughter of the Suta’s son, he could not obtain peace of mind, though comforted by those kings with excellent reasons inculcated by the scriptures. Regarding destiny and necessity to be all- powerful, the Kuru king firmly resolved on battle. Having duly made Salya the generalissimo of his forces, that bull among kings, O monarch, proceeded for battle, accompanied by that unslaughtered remnant of his forces. Then, O chief of Bharata’s race, a terrible battle took place between the troops of the Kurus and those of the Pandavas, resembling that between the gods and the Asuras.

Flame Teeth and the Teeth of the Sun IT' \'ERYWHERE and always fire has been conceived as some- -—-^ thing that consumes, devours or eats hke a hungry animal or human being; and the more or less individualized flames of fire are sometimes viewed as teeth, but more commonly as tongues. In the very ancient Hindu Rig-Veda the god Agni primarily rep- resents ordinary fire, but secondarily the fiery sun; and there it is said that "He crops the dry ground strewn (with grass and wood), like an animal grazing, he with a golden beard, with shining teeth" (Mandala V, Sukta VH, 7; translation of H. H. Wilson, Vol. HI, p. 247), while his light "quickly spreads over the earth, when with his teeth (of flame) he devours his food" {Ih. VH, iii, 4; Wilson's, Vol. IV, p. 36).^ The Mexican goddess of devouring fire is called Chantico ("In- the-house," with reference to her character as divinity of the do- mestic hearth) and also Ouaxolotl ("Split-at-the-top," for the flame divided into two tips) and Tlappalo ("She-of-the-red-butterfly," perhaps from the flame-like flickering of the insect). Her image is described by Duran with open mouth and the prominent teeth of a carnivorous beast ; and she is associated with the dog as a biting animal, according to one account having been transformed into a dog as a punishment for disregarding a prohibition relating to sac- rifices (Seler, J^aticanus B, p. 273; Spence, Gods of Mexico, p.

The Hindu Students Organization (HSO) is a faith-based group founded in 1992 with the intent of raising awareness of Hindu philosophies, customs, and traditions at Columbia University. The Sun and Moon are both in exalted position, or simultaneous at their peak of brightness, on this day, which occurs only once every year. This day is widely celebrated as Parusurama Jayanthi, in honor of Parusurama – the sixth incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu. Lord Kubera, who is the keeper of wealth for Goddess Maha Lakshmi, is said to himself pray to the Goddess on this day. Lord maha Vishnu and his Avatars, Goddess Maha Lakshmi and Lord Kubera are worshipped on Akshaya Trithiya Day. Veda vyasa began composing Mahabharatha on this day. Since Divine Mother Goddess Maha Lakshmi is intensely and actively manifest and due to the mystical nature of our Temple, all Pirthurs(all our ancestors’ subtle and causal bodies) congregate at our Temple. All these Ethereal beings are pleased and will gain higher cosmic energy when we offer pujas on their behalf. Pitru Tarpanam can be done on any day of the year depending on the day one’s ancestors passed away, but performing it during Mahalaya Amavasya and Akshaya Trithiya will multifold benefits.

Narasimha Rao (www.VedicAstrologer.org) Date of current version : 2009 June 11 A Word from the author My spiritual master Dr Manish Pandit hails from Pune, India and lives in Manchester, UK. The idea of spreading homam in the world was revealed to him in a dream a few years ago. He saw eight elevated beings in a dream. They transported him across blue skies to Chennai, India, where he was shown the big fire that was to be lighted in future. They told him to start the work. They assured him that homam as a spiritual sadhana was very appropriate in Kali yuga. As spiritually inclined people have fewer and fewer hours to spend on spiritual sadhana everyday with the progressing Kali yuga, sadhanas that work fast are more relevant. Homam works much faster than japam and other spiritual sadhanas. They told him that the practice of homam would transform into a movement that would reach across caste, class and race barriers. Later, when we were performing a Shata Chandi Homam in the first week of March 2006 at the Kalikambal temple in Chennai, he had a darshan of Divine Mother on a Friday and was reassured by Her about the right course of events regarding spreading homam. A Mahaganapathi homam manual was published later and several people are performing it daily or weekly or monthly. Our goal is to create a community of people who regularly perform a quick homam for the deity that they are attracted to.
