What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims observe fasting. It is one of the five pillars of the Islamic religion aimed to establish unity and equality among people through abstaining from all food and drink from dawn till sunset. It is a time to detach from worldly pleasures, exercise self-restraint, sacrifice, and gratitude. Why is Ramadan special to Muslims?

The month of Ramadan is the holiest period in the year for all Muslims as the Holy Quran was revealed dur- ing this month. Muslims believe that good deeds will bring an even greater reward during the month of Ramadan than any other time of the year. For more information about Ramadan, visit: https://ing.org/ramadan-information-sheet/ or a local mosque.
