However, cattle are also a major reservoir for dangerous foodborne pathogens that belong to the Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) group. Even though STEC infections in humans are rare, they are often lethal, as treatment options are limited. In cattle, STEC infections are typically asymptomatic and STEC is able to survive and persist in the cattle GIT by escaping the immune defenses of the host. Interactions with members of the native gut microbiota can favor or inhibit its persistence in cattle, but research in this direction is still in its infancy. Diet, temperature and season but also industrialized animal husbandry practices have a profound effect on STEC prevalence and the native gut microbiota composition. Thus, exploring the native cattle gut microbiota in depth, its interactions with STEC and the factors that affect them could offer viable solutions against STEC carriage in cattle. We cultured a collection of 350 isolates from soil by using simple solid media in petri dishes. These isolates were assigned to 60 family-level groupings in nine bacterial phyla on the basis of a comparative http://aem.asm.org/ analysis of their 16S rRNA genes. Ninety-three (27%) of the isolates belonged to 20 as-yet-unnamed family-level groupings, many from poorly studied bacterial classes and phyla. They included members of subdivisions 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the phylum Acidobacteria, subdivision 3 of the phylum Verrucomicrobia, subdivision 1 of the phylum Gemmatimonadetes, and subclasses Acidimicrobidae and Rubrobacteridae of the phylum Actinobacteria. In addi- tion, members of 10 new family-level groupings of subclass Actinobacteridae of the phylum Actinobacteria and classes Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, and Gammaproteobacteria of the phylum Proteobacteria were obtained. The high degree of phylogenetic novelty and the number of isolates affiliated with so-called uncul- turable groups show that simple cultivation methods can still be developed further to obtain laboratory cultures of many phylogenetically novel soil bacteria. -

Abstract The filter cake from sugar cane processing is rich in organic matter and nutrients, which favors the proliferation of mi- croorganisms with potential to deconstruct plant biomass. From the metagenomic data of this material, we assem- bled a draft genome that was phylogenetically related to Thermomonospora curvata DSM 43183, which shows the functional and ecological importance of this bacterium in the filter cake. Thermomonospora is a gram-positive bacte- rium that produces cellulases in compost, and it can survive temperatures of 60 ºC. -

However, information on the effect of PWD on the host microbial community is limited. In this study, the bacterial community structure and potential function in the needles, roots, and soil of diseased pine were studied under field conditions using Illumina MiSeq coupled with Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved states (PICRUSt) software. The results showed that the community and functional structure of healthy and diseased trees differed only in the roots and needles, respectively (p < 0.05). The needles, roots, and soil formed unique bacterial community and functional structures. The abundant phyla across all samples were Proteobacteria (41.9% of total sequence), Actinobacteria (29.0%), Acidobacteria (12.2%), Bacteroidetes (4.8%), and Planctomycetes (2.1%). The bacterial community in the healthy roots was dominated by Acidobacteria, Planctomycetes, and Rhizobiales, whereas in the diseased roots, Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Burkholderiales were dominant. -

The reservoir and crude oil properties together with the aqueous phase chemical concentration characteristics were listed in Table 1. P1 represents the sample collected from Zhan3-26 well located in Shengli Oilfield. Zhan3 block region in Shengli Oilfield is located in the coastal area from the Yellow River Estuary to the Bohai Sea. It is a medium-high temperature reservoir of fluvial face, made of a thin layer of crossed sand-mudstones, pebbled sandstones and fine sandstones. P2 represents the sample collected from Ba-51 well, which is located in Bayindulan reservoir layer of Erlian Basin, east Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a reservoir with highly heterogeneous layers, high crude oil viscosity and low formation fluid temperature. It was dedicated to water-flooding, however, due to low permeability and high viscosity of crude oil, displacement efficiency of water-flooding driving process was slowed down along the increase of water-cut rate.
