Wishing you a joyous 2020. Inside This Issue The New Year was welcomed warmly with many celebrations in Poland. Year 2020 was welcomed with high prospects for economic growth for 1. The world also witnessed the spread of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the declaration of medical emergency globally. Message from the On 15 March 2020, Poland implemented a nationwide lockdown that was announced by the Prime Minister of Poland. With the pandemic Ambassador spreading widely we witnessed the implementation of social distancing and non-essential movement limitations. Malaysia also announced the restricted movement control order on 16 March 2020 to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in Malaysia. In 2020, we will have to work hard and think creatively to build a world that offers health, happiness, hope and economic prosperity to all people everywhere with many new challenges in the first quarter of the year. The occurrence of Coronavirus pandemic has severely slowed down the global economy. Now, the main global challenge is to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, stay safe and to bring back the economy on track again. So, with that, I’d like to wish you all to stay safe by limiting your movements out of home only for essential needs. Thank you. Yassin was sworn in by His Majesty DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di - Pertuan Agong Al- Sultan Abdullah Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia. Y.B. FOREIGN MINISTER Y .B. DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER On 10 March 2020, Y.B. Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein and Y.B. Dato’ Kamarudin bin Jaffar have been appointed as the new Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia respectively to helm the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Dato' Page 2 of 26 EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA, WARSAW | JANUARY – MARCH 2020 – ISSUE 1 B2B NETWORKING SEMINAR ORGANIZED BY MALAYSIA TOURISM PROMOTION BOARD AT RAFFLES EUROPEJSKI, KROKOWSKIE PRZEDMIESCIE 13, 10 MARCH 2020 H.E. Ambassador Chitra Devi Ramiah delivered her opening remarks at the B2B Networking Seminar organised by the Malaysia Tourism Office based in Frankfurt, Germany. She expressed her concerns about the pandemic of Covid -19 and how it would impact the tourism industry. She praised the efforts made by Tourism Malaysia in Frankfurt for organising the event and hoped that more Polish people would consider Malaysia as a main travel destination. The B2B Networking Seminar was held at Raffles Europejski Hotel in Warsaw to promote tourism arrival in Malaysia. There were four (4) tour operators from Malaysia, Asia Overland Services, Berjaya Hotel and Resorts, Borneo Adventure and Mega Water Sports Jetski Tour and they had presented their tourism products during the occasion. Three participants of the event was honoured by winning lucky draw raffles with prizes comprising of sponsored flight tickets and accommodation in Malaysia besides other participants winning tourism promotional gifts. Page 3 of 26 EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA, WARSAW | JANUARY – MARCH 2020 – ISSUE 1 DEMARCHE ON MH17 AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 10 MARCH 2020 H.E. Ambassador Chitra Devi Ramiah attended the Demarche on MH17 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Poland led by the Ambassador of Netherland. On 9 March 2020, the criminal proceedings against four suspects for their role in the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 commenced and hence the Embassy of Netherland in the Republic of Warsaw had headed the Demarche on MH17 in Poland. The Demarche was also attended by the Australian, Belgian and Ukrainian Ambassadors in which a joint statement was submitted to the Polish MFA and was endorsed by the MFA on 8 March 2020. WANDA NOWICKA – CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL AND ETHNIC MINORITIES AND OF THE PARLIAMENTARY WOMEN’S RIGHTS GROUP PRESENTED A TALK ON GENDER ISSUES IN POLAND ON 2 MARCH 2020 H.E. Amb. Chitra Devi Ramiah attended a coffee session hosted by H.E. Leslie Scanlon, Ambassador of Canada to the Republic of Poland in the presence of Ms. Wanda Nowicka, Deputy of Sejm of the Republic of Poland. Ms. Wanda Nowicka is a Polish politician who is also an active activist in the field of women’s rights and health, especially sexual and reproductive rights. She was invited to share her experience in empowering women in conjunction with the celebration of International Women’s Day in March every year. Ms. Wanda Nowicka presented a talk on Gender Issues in Poland and the coffee session gave the opportunity for the Lady Ambassadors to share their experiences on gender issues in their own countries. OPENING OF THE PHOTO EXHIBITION ENTITLED ‘A PORTRAIT OF DIVERSITY AND RELIGIOUS HARMONY’ ORGANIZED BY THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA, 26 FEBRUARY 2020 In conjunction with the 65 years of diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Poland, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Poland organised a photo exhibition entitled Indonesia: A Portrait of Diversity and Religious Harmony”. Ambassador Chitra Devi Ramiah and Ms. Nur Atikah Anuar attended the opening ceremony officiated by Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Poland, H.E. Madam Siti Nugraha Mauludiah with the presence of the Director of Asia and the Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Grzegorz Kowal. LECTURE ON THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY; A PLAN TO LIQUIDATE THE PALESTINE QUESTION, BY AMBASSADOR DR. OMAR AWADALLAH, 21 FEBRUARY 2020 The Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Poland in cooperation with Collegium Civitas, Unit of Cultural Safety organised a lecture on The Deal of the Century: A Plan to Liquidate the Palestine Question on 21 February 2020. The lecture was delivered by H.E. Ambassador Dr. Omar Awadallah, Deputy Assistant Minister for Multilateral Affairs and the Head of United Nations and its Specialized Agencies Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine.
