All post-game media interviews during the round robin will be conducted in a scrum format at ice level in a designated space adjacent to the media bench. All players have been instructed to exit through this area on their way to the dressing rooms. Every effort will be made to escort players to the specified area as quickly as possible after each draw.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 4 CURLING CANADA PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

All photographers must be identified with a B4 credential. You must also wear black/dark colour clothing and shoes.

In general, you are allowed to shoot from positions between the hoglines (starting about two metres from each hogline) on the carpeted areas separating the game sheets; in the corners of the arena; or behind the hack signs/scoreboards, provided you are not obscuring the vision of the spectators, blocking the scoreboard or in the way of the players.

Before entering the ice surface, please ensure that you have used the shoe cleaner, located near the home-end entrance, to remove dust, dirt and other particles from your shoes.

You are not allowed on the ice surface at any time.

Also: • Flashes are not allowed. • If you are carrying a mobile device, turn it to silent before entering the ice surface. • No video can be shot from inside the boards. • Please photograph from a sitting or squatting position; not standing or kneeling. Please shift your position at appropriate intervals to not consistently block the view of the same spectators. • When moving along the walkway, ensure that no player is in the process of delivering a rock. If the curler is delivering, please wait until the deliver is complete before crossing the carpet at the end of the sheet. • When a player is about to deliver a stone, you must be behind the hack signs/scoreboards, or situated between the hoglines. • For playoff games, special instructions will be issued for photo locations in conjunction with the location of TSN’s cameras. In general, though, you should avoid being in the TSN shot at all times.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Failure to adhere to these regulations could result in the forfeiture of your photography credential.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 5 TV NON-RIGHTS HOLDERS

TSN is the sole TV rights-holder for the 2020 OK Tire & BKT Tires Continental Cup, thus no cameras/portable video devices from any other media affiliation are allowed inside the boards during morning, afternoon and evening draws.

However, in order to provide other stations and/or networks with an opportunity to get brief game/highlight footage, approved camera positions will be available at certain locations outside the boards around the perimeter or at various places on the concourse level or press box, provided your position at no time blocks the view of spectators nor presents a fire access hazard. Please ensure that your camera has no visible logo. If so, please cover it up.

You are allowed to air two minutes of game footage daily, provided the game footage is not from a game being televised as the feature game by TSN, in which case you must use their highlights with the appropriate credit.

The main media scrum takes place at ice level near the media bench. There will be an appropriate backdrop/signage noting the area. All players will pass by this area en route to their dressing rooms.

TV cameras must allow the media scrum to first interview any requested players before arranging individual interviews. However, cameras may be part of any scrum. For TV non rights-holders, you are allowed to air as much footage from the scrums as you wish.

When all games have been completed for any draw AND when TSN has concluded its telecast and is off the air, you are allowed to do ‘stand-ups’ or interviews at ice level on the carpeted areas, near the scoreboards or even inside the boards, provided you are not disrupting the ice technicians as they prepare the surface for the next draw.

For brief live hits, if TSN is not on the air, you will be able to do stand-ups on the concourse, seating areas, etc., providing any lighting requirements have been pre-approved. When TSN is on the air, NO live hits are allowed.

Thank you. If there are any questions, please contact (on-site):

There will continue to be a total of sixty (60) points available from five types of competition – Mixed Doubles, Team Play, Scrambles, and Skins. When the competition is completed, the side with the most points (first side to 30.5) will be declared the winner and be presented with the Continental Cup trophy, along with $135,000CDN (shared among 26 players, coach & captain). The runner-up side will receive $67,500CDN (shared among 26 players, coach & captain). FIVE COMPETITIONS

1. Team Play (one point awarded for each game played) • Two draws total - men’s and women’s • All teams compete in one traditional team play game • Two women’s game during Draw #1 and one during Draw #3 • One men’s game during Draw #1 and two during Draw #3

2. Mixed Doubles (one point awarded for each game) • Three draws total • Three of four athletes on each team must compete in one mixed doubles game (no team can have all four players compete in mixed doubles). • Athletes will be able to place their own stones at the start of each end. The chief umpire, in consultation with team captains, championship services manager and chief ice technician will assign the starting position of stones prior to each draw. • Mixed Doubles during Draws #2, #5 and #8

3. Scramble (one point awarded for each game) • Four draws total - men’s, women’s and mixed • Two women’s scramble games during Draw #4 and one during Draw #6 • One men’s scramble games during Draw #4 and two during Draw #6 • In men’s and womens, teams must be scrambled so that they will not have a regular & third or second & lead playing together (ex: male skip Team X; male third Team Y; male second Team Z; male lead Team X) • Mixed scrambles - Draws #7 (male skips) and #9 (female skips). • Every athlete will compete in one mixed scramble game.

4. Skins • Two draws total - men’s, women’s and mixed • Each game during Draw #10 is worth a total of five points • Each game during Draw #11 is worth a total of six points • Identical lineups (the same four athletes - even in a different order) cannot be in place for mixed scramble and mixed skins events. TIEBREAKER

In the event of a tie score at the end of the competition (each team has 30 points); each side will throw a single draw to the button, with full sweeping, with the team closest to the pin being declared the winner of the Continental Cup. The final game on the ice during draw 11, will be the sheet and athletes that the Captains must choose from to throw the draw to the button.

The team that loses the final skin on the final sheet will have the choice of first or second throw during the tiebreaker.

In the event that the team throwing first covers the button, and triangulation determines the draw to be 0.00; they will NOT throw another draw right away until they have a calculated score. In the event that the team throwing second gets an identical score to the team throwing first, the teams will reverse order and choose a different player from the final sheet, to throw one draw until a champion has been determined.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 11 TIMING, TIMEOUTS & MINIMUM ENDS PLAYED

The OK Tire & BKT Tires Continental Cup will use thinking time per half. Teams will be allotted separate amounts of time for the first and second halves of the game. Any time not used in the first half of the game does not carry over to the second half of the game.

The following timing system will be used for each discipline:

TEAM PLAY, SCRAMBLES AND SKINS Ends 1-4 16 minutes total Ends 5-8 18 minutes total MIXED DOUBLES Ends 1-4 12 minutes total Ends 5-8 14 minutes total

Teams are allotted two full one-minute timeouts per half. Unused timeouts from ends 1-4 do not carry over to ends 5-8. There will be no travel time for coaches during timeouts.

If a team runs out of time in a half, they must stop throwing stones. The opposing team may continue delivering stones and are provided a 10-second grace period following their shots.

Teams must play a minimum of six ends for team, mixed doubles and scramble games. Teams must play the full eight ends in skins. MIXED DOUBLES RULES 1. Scoring is counted as in normal curling. 2. Each game will consist of eight (8) ends. Ties will not be broken. 3. When each team completes its practice session a single draw to the button will take place to determine who has the ‘option’. The holder of the ‘option’ must then determine whether they intend to have their stationary stone positioned in the house or as the guard. If they choose the stone position in the house, then they will have last stone in the first end. 4. Each team throws five (5) stones per end. The player delivering the first stone of each end must also deliver the last stone of the end for their team, while the player throwing the second stone must also deliver the third and fourth stones for their team. This rotation may change from end-to-end and is simply determined by the player who delivers the first stone for their side at the start of each end. 5. No stone can be removed from play until after the third stone of each end and any stones it may have displaced have come to rest. If there is a violation, the played stone shall be removed from play and any displaced stones shall be placed back as close as possible to where they originally lay by the non-offending team. 6. At the beginning of each end, two stones will be set up by the umpires. Stones can be set up in one of two positions:

Position A: One stone will bisect the centre line in front of the house while the other stone will be positioned at the back of the four-foot, bisecting the centre line and the back edge of the four-foot. The Chief Umpire will notify each team captain prior to the start of the competition of the exact position of the stone on the centre line as it varies according to ice conditions.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 12 Position B: Once per game a team can locate the stones in the Power Play position. The in-house stone of the team with last stone is placed with the back edge of the stone on the tee-line, splitting the 8 foot and 12 foot rings. The guard is re-positioned from the centre line to a direct line between the middle of the in-house stone and the middle of the hack. The in-house stone will be directly behind the guard. The guard position will be at the same distance from the rings as the normal position of the centre guard. The Chief Umpire will notify each team captain prior to the start of the competition of the exact position of the corner guard stone.

7. Prior to the start of each end, one team will have the ‘option’. The team with the ‘option’ has its choice of having its stone placed as a guard or having the stone positioned in the house behind the button. If the guard is chosen, the opponent’s stone is positioned in the house or vice-versa. 8. The team with the stone out front as a guard will deliver first and the team with the stone in the house will deliver second (have last stone in the end). Following the first end, the team that lost the previous end will have the ‘option’. If an end is blanked, the team that blanks will forfeit the ‘option’ for the next end. 9. While the team is in the process of delivery, the non-delivering player must be either positioned inside the hog line, with at least one foot on the ice surface at the playing end of the team’s sheet, or in a position to sweep at the delivery end of the team’s sheet. After delivery, either or both players may sweep their delivered stone and any stones set in motion that belong to their team anywhere in front of the tee line at the playing end. This applies during all of the team’s delivered stones, including the LSD. Note: the non-delivering player does not have to hold the broom for the player delivering the stone. They can be ready to sweep. 10. Each team will receive a five (5) minute practice session prior to the start of each game. Team World will practice the first set on Thursday and Team North America will practice the first set on Friday. The team ahead in the standings on Saturday will practice first. TEAM PLAY & SCRAMBLE RULES

The traditional team games and scramble competitions will be played as a regular game of curling.

One point will be awarded for each games won in team play and scrambles. In the case of a tie, each side will receive half a point.

Each game consists of eight ends and teams must play a minimum of six ends.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 13 SKINS RULES

Each side will play six skins games. Every curler must play in the skins format once.

The first six ends of each skins games are worth half a point each. The final two ends will be worth one point each. The team with the most points by the end of the game wins and earns five points for its side. There are six skins games, resulting in 33 points total. The games during draw 10 are worth a total of five points each, while the games during draw 11 are worth six points each.

1. Each game consists of eight ends and each draw will have one men’s, one women’s and one mixed game. 2. Each end is referred to as a skin. To win a skin with the last stone, the team must count a minimum of two points. A team without last stone must steal at least one point to win a skin. 3. If a team with last stone only scores one point, it not only loses the hammer but the end goes into a carry-over, which means the points at stake are carried over to the next end. If an end is blanked, a carry-over takes place and the team that blanked the end forfeits last stone to its opponent. 4. If the final end of a skins game results in a carry-over, the two teams will draw to the button to determine which team claims the carry-over points. Each team will select a player to deliver one stone to the button with sweeping. The team that was without hammer in the eighth end has the choice of throwing the first or second rock. Normal WCF sweeping rules apply to the throwing team, but opponents cannot sweep behind the tee-line.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 14 2018 HOME HARDWARE CANADA MEDIA RELEASE COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE CUP ANNOUNCEMENT CONTINENTAL CUP OF CURLING TO RETURN TO LONDON, ONT., IN 2020 The 2020 Continental Cup will be played Jan. 9-12 at The Sports Centre at Western Fair District.

The 2018 edition of this unique curling competition, which pits Team North America against Team World in a variety of interesting formats, drew near-capacity crowds all weekend in 2018, and came down to the most thrilling finish in the history of the competition, with Team North America’s Brad Gushue barely winning a draw-to-the-button against Team World’s Thomas Ulsrud after the two sides finished four days of intense competition in a 30-30 deadlock.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, including a full-event package for $249 — a $30 saving on the 2018 price.

“We saw a thrilling competition in 2018 in London — not only because of the skill level of the curlers on the ice, but also due to the wonderful enthusiasm of the fans, volunteers and host committee in London,” said Maureen Miller, Chair of Curling Canada’s Board of Governors. “I know the athletes always perform at a higher level when they feel that intensity from the crowd, which is why I know they’ll be excited to return to London next year.”

It will be the 16th edition of the Continental Cup, a four-day event that features the best players in the world competing alongside many of their rivals; each side will have six teams competing — three of each gender.

The Sports Centre, which is part of the Western Fair District complex, is an Olympic-size arena with seating for around 1,500. It’s the home rink for the London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. It sits adjacent to three other NHL- size ice surfaces.

Also part of the Western Fair District is The Raceway, offering standardbred horse racing from October to May, a casino and a Yuk Yuk’s comedy club.

“What a win for London! Thanks to Tourism London and to passionate curling fans for ensuring the Continental Cup’s return to the Forest City,” said London Mayor Ed Holder. “Just as we saw last year, this should also be a huge boost for local businesses. Drawing from our experience as hosts in 2018, I have full confidence this will be the most dynamic Continental Cup ever witnessed.”

“I’m so excited to see that the Continental Cup will return to London in 2020,” added London North Centre MPP Terence Kerneghan. “With a strong culture of athletic success and dedicated spectators, London is the perfect place to host some of the world’s best curlers. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the Forest City and boost our local economy while celebrating athletic achievement at London’s iconic Western Fair District.”

A variety of ticket offers will go on sale Friday at noon ET, including the aforementioned $249 full-event package that will cover all 11 draws of the 2020 Continental Cup.

Also available on Friday will be:

Weekend package: A new offer that includes a single ticket to all five draws on Saturday, Jan. 11, and Sunday, Jan. 12 — $189. Day Packages for Thursday, Jan. 9 ($49), and Friday, Jan. 10 ($59). Each includes a single ticket to all three draws that day. All ticket packages are subject to standard ticket service fees, and will be available online at curling.ca/tickets or by calling (833) 219-9444.

London curling fans packed the arena in 2018, so demand for the 2020 event will be extremely high, and there will be a limited number of each ticket package option available, and they may go off sale at any time. Single draw tickets will go on sale until the fall, subject to availability.

Teams, captains and coaches for both Team North America and Team World will be announced later this year.

CURLING CANADA • OK TIRE & BKT TIRES CONTINENTAL CUP, PRESENTED BY SERVICE EXPERTS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING • MEDIA GUIDE 15 “London did itself proud in 2018 by hosting a highly successful edition of the Continental Cup, and I know the city was eager to bring back the event as soon as possible,” said Steve Chenier, Executive Director of CurlON. “Ontario has a tradition of playing host to first-class curling championships, and I have a very good feeling that will be the case next January.”

After losing six straight editions of the Continental Cup, Team World broke through in January at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for its first victory since 2012 at Langley, B.C.

Previously, North America has won the Cup in 2002 in Regina, 2004 and 2007 in Medicine Hat, Alta., 2011 in St. Albert, Alta., 2013 in Penticton, B.C., 2014 in Las Vegas, 2015 in Calgary, back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017 in Las Vegas, and 2018 in London. Team World emerged victorious in 2003 in Thunder Bay, Ont., 2006 in Chilliwack, B.C., 2008 in Camrose, Alta., 2012 in Langley, B.C., as well as this season’s event in Las Vegas.

“The Continental Cup is a marquee curling event that brings together some of the best players in the world,” said Peter Fragiskatos, Member of Parliament for London North Centre. “The ability to host the event for a second time is a great honour for our city. Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.”

The 2018 Continental Cup was the most recent example of London’s ability to stage world-class curling competitions. The city also played host to the 2011 . Prior to that, London hosted the 2006 Scotties Tournament of Hearts; both events took place at the downtown Budweiser Gardens (formerly the John Labatt Centre)

Also, the old London Gardens hosted the 1974 Macdonald Brier and Thompson Arena on the Campus of Western University hosted the 1981 Air Canada Silver Broom world men’s championship.

“It’s a privilege to work with Curling Canada to host the 2020 Continental Cup of Curling,” said Cheryl Finn, Director, Sport Tourism for Tourism London. “These events reinforce the fact that London is a strong, capable and welcoming host community for athletes and fans alike! Our facilities, partners and volunteers are ready to welcome the curling world to our city.”

TSN/RDS2 , the official broadcast partner of Curling Canada’s Season of Champions, will televise all of the action from London.
