UC Connections: Locals help Lions win AAC tourney

By CRAIG DELK For the HERALD-CITIZEN

Early last week, Reinhardt University knocked off the Bryan College women’s basketball team to make the Lions the No. 2 seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. On Saturday, three locals helped Bryan win the game that mattered more. Freshman Deandra Luna (White County) tallied 11 points, sophomore point guard Tristan McClellan (Pickett County) dished out six assists and swiped three steals, and senior center Marlee Sells (Livingston Academy) scored three points as the Lions cruised to a 75-58 victory and the AAC tournament title. Luna was named to the all-tournament team after having two strong performances in the quarterfi- nals and semifinals. On Thursday, she tallied 20 points, seven steals, three rebounds and three as- sists during Bryan’s 69-64 win over Milligan College in the quarterfinals. After starter Nic Dye struck out the side to kick off the game, the home squad plated two runs in support, thanks to single RBI from Chase Chambers and David Garza.
