The Royal Caledonian Curling Club will be providing live line scoring and results coverage of the Scottish Curling Championships on the Competitions section of our website www.royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org The 2015 Scottish Men’s Champions will earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Men’s Curling Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada from 28 Mar – 4 Apr and the Scottish Women’s Champions will represent Scotland at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan from 14 - 22 March. www.worldcurling.org In the last ten years Scotland’s men’s and women’s Scottish Championship winning teams have achieved 11 World Championship medals, including 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze. We look forward to welcoming the World Men’s Curling Championship back to Scotland in 2020 as part of an ambitious programme of four international curling championships awarded to Scotland by the World Curling Federation. These events represent a long term commitment to the sport by The Royal Caledonian Curling Club and its bidding partners and will be a great opportunity to showcase our best talent and provide sports fans with the chance to watch world class curling on home soil.     ISSUE21 Features Events Clubs&Rinks Feb 2014 Your Curler The Royal Caledonian Curling Club Member Ezine Silver and Bronze for Great Britain in the Winter Olympics, Sochi 2014 Great Britain’s Men’s and Women’s Curling Teams both took medals in this year’s Sochi Games which was to be Great Britain’s most successful Winter Olympics to date. Great Britain’s Men’s Team, David Murdoch, Greg Drummond, Michael Goodfellow, Scott Andrews and Tom Brewster, claimed Olympic Silver in the final of the Men’s Curling event with Canada going on to take the gold. The Great Britain Women’s Team, Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and Lauren Gray, secured a Bronze medal after beating Switzerland 6-5 in the Women’s Bronze Medal Game. Story continued on page 2 Barr and MacDonald are 2014 Scottish Curling Champions Team Kerry Barr secured their first Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Women’s Championship title at Dewars Centre, Perth on Sunday 16th February in an enthralling battle against last year’s finalists Team Hannah Fleming. In the men’s event it was Ewan MacDonald who made his return to the podium for the seventh time as he lead his men to victory in a final that went all the way against David Edwards’ Team. Barr’s Murrayfield rink of Barbara McPake, Rhiann Macleod and Rachael Simms will now go on to represent Scotland at the World Women’s Championship in Saint John, Canada from 15-23 March while Ewan MacDonald, Euan Byers, David Reid and Duncan Fernie head to Beijing, China for the World Men’s Championship from 29 March to 6 April.

The club invited rinks from Peeblesshire Province and Biggar for lunch before the games. Peebles Curling Club were the overall winners with West Linton runners up. The Broughton members socialised with their fellow curlers before returning to Broughton to carry on the celebrations with a meal and after dinner celebrations. There was a speech about club founder The Reverend Hamilton Paul, and the history of our club. A good day was had by all. Report by Grace Masterton, Vice President ABERDEEN CLUB BONSPIEL The club bonspiel took place on Saturday 28th November. This was a full entry, which is great, we had 12 teams of all ages and abilities, competing for the winners spot on the day. Petroleum (pictured) came out winners overall, with Meldrum & Daviot coming second - great to see so many Juniors being involved and even going home with Christmas presents for their parents! The final instalment of this club bonpspiel format concludes 13th February when clubs can still win the overall prize with the combined score of two of their best scores from the three spiels.

The junior women’s and men’s Champions will earn the right to represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships, where Scotland has medalled consecutively every year since 2004 - in 2016 Scotland’s junior men won gold, becoming World Junior Curling Champions. Curl Aberdeen is again the venue for the national event, it has hosted the Scottish Curling Junior Championships since 2010 and we are delighted to be back. Curl Aberdeen will also host the World Junior Curling Championships in 2018, as part of the exciting programme of four international curling events that Scotland is playing host to, the first of which - the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships - took place at intu Braehead in November 2016. The Royal Caledonian Curling Club will be providing live line scoring and results coverage of the Scottish Curling Junior Championships on the event page on our website www.royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org for the duration of the championships.
