CURLING CANADA • 2021 BKT TIRES & OK TIRE WORLD MEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP, PRESENTED BY NEW HOLLAND • MEDIA GUIDE 5 FACT SHEET OFFICIAL NAME: BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men’s Curling Championship, presented by New Holland DATE/SITE: April 2-11, 2021 - WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park, Calgary SEATING CAPACITY: 2,500 (not applicable) FORMAT: Fourteen teams compete in a 13-game round robin. The top two teams in the standings advance directly to the semifinals. The third through sixth ranked teams compete in qualification games (3 vs. 6; 4 vs. 5) with the winners advancing to the semifinals. The semifinal winners play in the gold-medal game and the losers play for bronze. No tiebreakers will be played, so ties for playoff spots are to be broken based on head-to-head results, and if that doesn’t resolve the tie, then the pre-game Last-Shot Draw distances will be used. INTERNET: Draw results and event information can be obtained at: https://www.curling.ca/2021worldmen/ TELEVISION: TSN, RDS2 (All draws) / World Curling TV HOW TEAMS QUALIFIED: With the cancellation of all world women’s and men’s world championship qualification events, a new qualification process for the 2021 world championships has been implemented. Qualification for the 2021 edition of both the world women’s and world men’s championships will now be determined through a combination of the 2019 qualification event results and the existing World Rankings. As there was no last place finisher in the cancelled 2020 editions of the world championships, the zonal allocation announced Sept. 1, 2020 for the originally scheduled 13-team event is: • Americas Zone – two places determined by the World Rankings Canada, United States • European Zone – eight places determined by the results from the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships 2019 Sweden, Switzerland, Scotland, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Germany and Netherlands • Pacific-Asia Zone – two places determined by the results from the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships 2019 South Korea and Japan • Final place based on World Rankings The Russian Curling Federation Team On Oct. 6, 2020 the World Curling Federation expanded the field of the women’s and men’s world championships from 13 to 14 teams to include those teams who had secured a place in the 2020 World Championships but failed to meet the qualification requirements for the 2021 championships. • Expanded field spot China CURLING CANADA • 2021 BKT TIRES & OK TIRE WORLD MEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP, PRESENTED BY NEW HOLLAND • MEDIA GUIDE 6 OLYMPIC Men’s and Women’s Qualification at World Championships: QUALIFYING: • The six highest ranked National Olympic Committees, of the Member Associations of the World Curling Federation, from the 2021 world women’s and world men’s curling championships will qualify for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 team competitions. • In the situation where the Chinese National Olympic Committee teams finish outside of the top six places at these events, it will qualify automatically for the respective Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 team competition through the allocation of the host country quota place. Men’s and Women’s Qualification Events: Three or four women’s and men’s teams will qualify from the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 — the number of qualification places available is dependent on China’s final placement at the 2021 world championships. Teams eligible to compete in the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 are: • Teams who qualified for the 2020 or 2021 world championships but have not already qualified for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 • The two highest ranking teams in the World Curling Federation Pre-Qualifier Event • The host National Olympic Committee of the Olympic Qualification Event 2021 GAME DURATION: Ten ends are scheduled with extra end(s) to break tied games. A minimum of eight (8) must completed in the play-off games, in any other games a minimum of six (6) ends must be completed. Extra end(s) will be played to break tied games. GAME TIMING: Thinking time will be used for this event. Each team receives 38 minutes to complete a ten-end game. Extra ends will be four minutes and 30 second (4:30) of thinking time for each team. A team’s clock begins: • Once the opposing team has completed their shot, all rocks have come to rest and moved behind the back line; AND • the opposing team’s sweepers have moved to the side of the sheet; AND • the opposition in charge of the house has relinquished control of the house; AND • the person in charge of the house (the delivering team) has taken control of the house. The Canada-United States game featured some outstanding shooting by Carey and a good old-fashioned rock controversy. In the Canada-United States game, the rock controversy was really two rock controversies. Amy Nixon’s rocks red-lighted twice. The first time, it was kicked to the corner, despite the fact there appeared to be no hogline infraction.

Scotland’s David Murdoch was always in control against Sweden’s Niklas Edin and eventually, after blanking five ends, delivered a hack-weight tap-out of a Swedish counter to leave another of his stones lying shot for a 3-2 win. Later Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott edged out Norway’s Marianne Rørvik to start her campaign with a 6-4 win. Elsewhere in the men’s opening session, Germany’s Andy Kapp had an 8-5 win over Ulrik Schmidt’s Danish team, thanks largely to a score of three in the second end, while Thomas Dufour led France to a 6-5 win over Italy’s Stefano Ferronato. The other two games in the men’s opening round both went to extra ends, with Finland’s Toni Rantamäki taking the single needed to beat Jiri Snítel of the Czech Republic by 9-8, as did Thomas Ulsrud of Norway against Switzerland’s Ralph Stöckli for his 8-7 win. In the women’s games, Germany’s Andrea Schöpp took an early three against Sweden’s reigning Olympic champion Anette Norberg and held off the second-half Swedish pressure to win by 7-4.

BADEN HILLS GOLF UND CURLING CLUB RASTATT E.V. - ABTLG.
