Nyborg Gymnasium’s IB Department has offered the IB Diploma Programme since 1999. The idea behnd the programme is holistic, with a pro- gramme core that is common to all students, and six elective subjects chosen to fit the wishes and needs of the individual student. The programme coresponds to the two final years of upper secondary school, and the IB Diploma is recog- nised by universities all around the world. To be accepted directly into the IB Diploma students need at least ten years of prior schooling. For students with only nine years of prior schooling we offer the pre- IB year. The pre-IB year is a broad programme designed to give students the academic qualifications needed for the IB Diploma Programme. The tuition is free and all instruction is given in English. Intercultural skills and ambitious educational programmes The emerald green island of Funen in Southern Denmark is best know as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, the author of ’The Little Mermaid’. With its many harbours and trading towns, the island also has a tradition for looking outward to the world. Today, the University of Southern Denmark and the University Hospital, located in and around Denmark’s third largest city, Odense, feature among the island’s growing knowledge industries.
