COOPER COLLECTION

MS 181/3 Manuscripts and Typescripts

There appears to be no overall reason to these materials; merely those that were put aside at some time. Most consist of articles or translations for articles that may or may not have appeared in the 1930s. The presence of a number of duplicated items suggests a network and distribution and contact among Fascists over and above the published pamphlets and newspapers.

1. (HEEKELINGEN, H. De VRIES ?) "Juifs et Catholigues. Jews and Catholics" Octavo notepad containing, presumably, a translation into English of an article. 43 pp. in pencil, containing a series of translations and notes. Probably circa 1935.

2. Diplomatic and Commercial Representatives of U.R.S.S. 1927. 4 pp. Handwritten list of Soviet diplomatic representatives "representing 150 million GOYIM". Showing that most of the Soviet diplomatic corps were Jewish. The use of the initials URSS suggests that this is translated from a French anti-semitic publication.

3. Report of Captain H.S. Spencer, Royal Irish Fusiliers, late Political Officer, British Adriatic Mission, in regard to certain experiences in Rome in May 1917 Typescript, 3 foolscap pages. Details of intelligence intrigue in Venice, leading into account of German-British Jewish plot to stage the war to take control of industry under the guise of a League of Nations. This includes sending Lenin back to Russia. A covering note on War Office notepaper states that Spencer was "ordered to Salonica where I was put under guard as a "mental case" by orders from Rome". Signed by Spencer and dated August 1917. This document may be spurious.

4. "The Muller Von Hausen Trial, the Protocols, Rathenau and the frieze of cut off Kings Heads" Translation into English of an article from "La Revue des Societes Secretes", 14 October 1923. 10 pp. In ink and pencil.

5. "Extracts from Authenticated Apostolic writings concerning the True "Israel of God" (None later than 150 A.D.)” 12 pp. in handwritten ink, stapled at top left edge

6. "Jewish . A New Document. Extracts and Discussions. Authenticity and Veracity" Translated from the Revue des Societes Secretes, 4 November 1923. 6 pp. handwritten in ink and pencil

7. "OGPU Prisons in Barcelona" 10 pp. handwritten in pencil, with "Spain" by W.G. Krivitsky, 5 pp. in pencil. A summary of an article in the "Saturday Evening Post of April 15 1929. The first article alleges that the Russian OGPU is running prisons in Spain inside convents and practising various forms of torture

13

8. The Jews. 10 pp. double sided notes on Jewish world conspiracy theory, undated, but naming various prominent Jews responsible for, among other things, organising the Russian Revolution

9. "Sir Basil Zaharoff” 3 articles labelled Article 1, Article 2 and Article 3, the first translated from "Le Reveil du Peuple" 1 July 1936. 5 sides stapled + 5 sides stapled + 5 sides stapled, handwritten in ink. A series of scurrilous "revelations" about Zaharoff, the Jews and world conspiracy.

10. "Reflections on the Vaughan-Taxil Trial" 8 pp. handwritten in ink. This may be an original article.

9. World Service A very important and very scarce run of the English Language Nazi newsletter. The origins of World Service seem obscure and it seems that anti-semitic pamphlets may have originated from this source and this name prior to the launching of the newsletter. The first issue of World Service is dated 1st December 1933. The outlook of the newsletter, quoted in full at the top of each issue is the best guide to its aims and objectives:

"These leaflets are intended to be passed on from hand to hand amongst Aryans. The "World Service", which is issued in three languages, is not published with a view to profits. Its principal aim is to enlighten ill-informed Aryans, irrespective of the state or country to which they may belong. These information sheets, which deal with the machinations of the Jewish under-world, form accordingly a necessary part of the intellectual armoury of every Aryan. The communication of the matters dealt with to the well-intentioned press is considered highly desirable. Those holding similar views to our throughout the world, who recognize the fact that systematic work, and search after the truth, cannot be carried on without pecuniary outlay, will of a surety decide to send us some such small contribution as their means

19

may permit. This will enable us to carry out a considerable and effective extension of our work. Every contributor may rest assured that every farthing, and every cent subscribed will be put to the most conscientious uses only."

World Service appears to have been published by U-Boden Verlag in Erfurt and edited by Colonel Ulrich Fleischauer. Each issue comprises usually of 3 duplicated pages, printed on one side only, but some are up to 12 sheets in length. They give extracts from various sources of an anti-semitic and anti-zionist nature and were clearly intended to provide the basis for Nazi anti-semitic ideas among fellow-travellers in groups on the far right throughout Europe and America. This newsletter is of the utmost rarity. It merits a passing reference to its editor by Gloria Lebzelter in her "Political Anti-Semitism in England 1918-1939" but no other reference work on this period that we have seen gives it any mention. It is important for the links between British and other extreme right groups elsewhere. World Service appears to have initially been issued in 3 languages but at the time of its obvious demise, with the outbreak of war in. August-September 1939, it was proclaiming its message in some 8 different languages. (In fact, BUCOP lists a part-set, including some war years, at LWL, while Cohn, N. Warrant for genocide (1981) claims that it continued into the war years and in 18 languages: “But by then Fleischauer had been ousted and his organisation merged into the Institute of the NSDAP for Research into the Jewish Question, at Frankfurt”. See also Bondy, L.W. Racketeers of hatred (1946).) This run of World Service comprises some 117 issues (of 123 issues?) covering the period December 1933 to the (final?) issue of 15th July 1939. This run would appear to lack Volume I/5, Volume IV/13, Volume V/13, and Volume VI/10, 11 and 12. However, a number of the issues are double-issues, while Volume V/17 and 18 - a double issue - is represented by the German-language edition only. All issues are stapled and in good condition. In addition there are 2 extra issues which do not seem to be part of the main sequence but may be related to 2 of the missing numbers. They are "The Truth on Spain" January 15th 1937. 4 pp. "The Truth on Spain III" February 1937. 5 pp.

ITALIAN FASCIST NEWSLETTERS - "VERITAS" AND "ROMANA"

These fascist journals from the 1920s and 1930s are unusual in that they contain articles in different languages within an issue and were clearly designed for European circulation. The publishing history is impossible to establish from internal evidence but it appears that, as with World Service in Germany, they were to the right of the official Fascist parties in government but represent a more traditional form of European anti- semitic Fascism. No trace of any holdings has been found in Great Britain.
