Q: What are the new items the council will start collecting in March? A: We will collect good condition clothing, pairs of shoes, household batteries, small electrical items, like kettles, small toasters, hairdryers and lamps. Q: What will the council do with these items? A: The items will be made available for reuse if in a good enough condition. If they are unsuitable to be reused, they will be recycled. Q: Why are these changes being made? A: Waltham Forest Council started a new Neighbourhood Services contract with Urbaser in October 2019. Urbaser was awarded the contract due to the high quality and competitive cost of their bid, meaning residents will receive good value for their money. Urbaser are able to collect and process more recycling than before, meaning electrical items, clothing and household batteries can now be picked up along with your other waste and recycling on your collection day – just leave them in a plastic carrier bag on top of your bins. Improving our recycling offer is key to the council’s plans to tackle the global climate emergency and reduce Waltham Forest’s impact on the environment.

For more information go to walthamforest.gov.uk/recyclemore Have you got household furniture you no longer want but somebody else could still use? We’ll pick it up for FREE Suitable for further use? Waltham Forest Council will collect up to five items of furniture per booking, completely free of charge to residents. To book, go to YES walthamforest.gov.uk/largeitemcollection

If your items are in a good enough condition to be reused they will be passed on to Brightsparks Homestore shop in Bakers Arms, Leyton

Passing on items for reuse saves resources, reduces waste and helps the local community furnish their homes.
