Draft Programme for the 5Th Feeder Fishing World Championship 2015 in Terneuzen DRAFT PROGRAMME FOR THE 5TH FEEDER FISHING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2015 IN TERNEUZEN Dear angling friends, Sportvisserij Nederland is delighted to invite you to participate in the 5th Feeder Fishing World Championship, which will be held between 6 and 12 July 2015 on the Gent- Terneuzen Canal, Zeelandic Flanders, in the south of the Netherlands. The world championship will be organised by Sportvisserij Nederland, in cooperation with Sportvisserij Zuidwest Nederland and the ONI angling society. Sportvisserij Nederland represents (competitive) anglers and their angling societies across the Netherlands and has existed as an angling organisation for over 100 years. Sportvisserij Nederland currently supports the interests of more than 550,000 anglers around the country. Over time, Sportvisserij Nederland has organised a large number of coarse and salt- water world championships, the most recent being: Salt-water Team World Championship (2002), Salt-water Boat Fishing World Championship (2008), Coarse Land Fishing World Championship (2009), Coarse Fishing Ladies' World Championship (2012) Salt-water Coastal Fishing Ladies'/Men's World Championship (2012) and the Junior Coarse Fishing World Championship (2014). We are pleased to be continuing this tradition by organising the Feeder Fishing World Championship and Salt-water Coastal Fishing Junior World Championship in 2015. We look forward to welcoming your country to the Gent-Terneuzen sea canal, where between Westdorpe and Terneuzen a competition course of around 4 kilometres awaits you. Enjoy the area of Zeelandic Flanders, close to the border with Belgium. Menno Knip Chairman of Sportvisserij Nederland PERIOD OF THE FEEDER FISHING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2015 Arrival of participating countries on Sunday 5 July 2015 Departure of participating countries on Monday 13 July 2015 COURSE The 5th Feeder Fishing World Championship will be held in the Gent-Terneuzen Canal, which stretches around 14 km in the Netherlands. The championship will be held on the eastern side of the sea canal, between Westdorpe and the start of the harbours in Terneuzen. There is a cycle path along the whole course and a wide bank on both sides. Participants' cars can be parked at the canal dyke during the competition days on 11 and 12 July 2015. During the training days, cars can also be parked along the cycle path. The canal has a width of around 150 metres and is around 2 metres deep at the bank, 4 metres deep at a distance of 13 metres from the bank and 12 metres deep in the centre. The bank consists of basalt blocks and grass on clay soil. The current is moderate and depends partly on the sea locks at Terneuzen. Since the canal is close to the Westerschelde estuary, the water is fairly brackish in Terneuzen and becomes fresher towards Westdorpe. The fish stock consists of large roach, bream and bass as well as flounder and mullet. During the 2015 Feeder Fishing World Championship, pike and eel may not be kept in keepnets. If they are caught, they must be released immediately. During the world championship, there will be no minimum sizes for fish caught. THE LOCATION AND HOW TO GET THERE Westdorpe is a village to the south of the harbour town of Terneuzen, on the Zeelandic Flanders peninsula, in the province of Zeeland. The peninsula borders Belgium on the south side. The peninsula is linked to the Zeeland mainland and the rest of the Netherlands through the Westerschelde tunnel. On the south side you can drive straight into Belgium and reach Antwerp in around half an hour. There are no big cities in Zeelandic Flanders but there are plenty of picturesque villages, each with their own character and worth a visit. These include: Terneuzen, Hulst, Sluis, Aardenburg and Cadzand. Major airports: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport : 210 km and around 2.30 hours by car Rotterdam Zestienhoven Airport : 140 km and around 1.30 hours by car Antwerp Airport (Belgium) : 65 km and around 1 hour by car Brussels Airport (Belgium) : 100 km and around 1.30 hours by car Bruges Ferry (Belgium) : 70 km and around 1.00 hour by car Utrecht : 180 km and around 2.00 hours by car From the south (e.g. France, Spain, Portugal and Italy), it's best to travel to Zeelandic Flanders through Belgium. • Building a Decision Support System
PIANC-World Congress Panama City, Panama 2018 BUILDING A DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR THE TERNEUZEN LOCKS : COMBINING OPTIMAL MANAGEMENT FOR WATER AND SHIPPING by Chantal Martens 1, Gert-Jan Liek 2, Dré Maes 3, Herman Haas 2, Maarten Deschamps 1, Leen Dekker 2, Harry van ‘ t Westeinde 2, Mario Vermeirssen 2, Harm Verbeek 2, Kees Storm 2 ABSTRACT The Terneuzen lock Complex in the Dutch city of Terneuzen gives access to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal and thus to the port of Ghent (Belgium) from the Western Scheldt. Currently, the construction of a new lock is being prepared, which is expected to be operational in 2022. In the context of the licensing process for the new lock, how to deal with the available (fresh)water in the most optimal way was examined. The quality values for water (mostly focusing on salt intrusion) must be met, together with the shipping requests and taking into account the daily water management issues of the Canal. Following the conclusions of an expert group, set up to optimize the use of the lock complex, the decision has been made to prepare for a Decision Support System for the Ghent- Terneuzen Canal, in a joint Flemish-Dutch collaboration. This DSS will provide the planners and operators with streamlined and uniform information and support them in the economic and ecologic optimisation of the daily operations of the lock complex. The paper gives an overview of the background and the preparation phase of the DSS. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Ghent-Terneuzen Canal and the Terneuzen Locks The Ghent-Terneuzen Canal is situated on Belgian and Dutch territory and was constructed between 1823 and 1825.
