You will arrive at Munich Airport, Germany, on Wednesday, June 1st where we will pick you up and bring you to the brand new Luxury “HYPERION Hotel Munich” for your first 2 nights where you can recover from the long flight jetlag. After checking in you can relax in your beautiful panoramic rooms before we pick you up at 6 PM for a nice tram ride to Munich Downtown where we will have dinner at the world-famous one and only original “Hofbräuhaus”. On Thursday, June 2nd the Corvettes will be brought to the hotel garage and in the early afternoon we will have an interesting visit at BMW World and Museum and a great sightseeing tour through Munich Old Town and surroundings. On Friday, June 3rd, after a relaxing breakfast at around 10 AM we will “saddle our horses” and drive 340 km on the German Autobahn A9 and A73 to one of the most historical areas in Germany – to Thuringia in former East Germany – where we will be part of the International European Corvette Convention for the next 3 days. The “Ringberg Hotel” – where we will stay for the next 3 nights – is a historical landmark and contemporary witness on the Suhler montain peak summit – built 1974 to 1979 and opened in 1979 - and the former holiday home of Erich Honecker - the leader of the German Democratic Republic (DDR/East Germany) – and his family and government. Originally it was built for farmers of the DDR, who had to wait four years for a holiday spot at the Ringberg Hotel. The route from „VdgB-Ferienheim“ (holiday home for the association of mutual agricultural aid) to today's hotel was not always easy. Last year the largest house in the middle of the Thuringian Forest celebrated its 40th anniversary. We will arrive at the Ringberg Hotel in the late afternoon where we check in and get our roadbook with all instructions for the next 3 days. There will be around 300 Corvettes from all over Europe participating in this one-of-a-kind event. At 7 pm we all will have dinner together at the Herbert Roth Saal where we are warmly welcomed by the organizers Gisela and Helmut from the TCV – the Thuringian Corvette Club – everything will also be translated in English for the guests from all over the world. The evening will be either spent at the numerous nightly parking lot parties or at the lobby with dance and live music or at the bar. Be sure to bring a folding chair – it’ll be needed J On Saturday, June 4th, after a mostly short night.... ;-) and a great breakfast we’ll meet at 10 AM at the parking lot where we start in groups of 20 – 25 cars to one of the larger cities like Erfurt, Weimar, Jena or Coburg – nobody knows in advance where they will lead us – it’s always a nice surprise to which city we go and where we will park our Corvettes - in the middle of the market place or the center of Downtown. As soon as all the groups have arrived and all the cars are parked we have time for sightseeing, shopping, walking around with our Corvette friends, have some coffee and cake or ice cream in one of the many Cafés or have lunch and/or a drink at a restaurant. In the afternoon at around 3.30 PM we delightfully cruise back to our hotel on the incredible wide and empty streets of the Thuringian Forest with our Vettes J Back at the Ringberg Hotel we enjoy again the nice beergarden with drinks and their famous “Thuringian Bratwurst” and have a lot of fun with our friends talking and drinking and laughing and and ..... For dinner we will enjoy a nice buffet together with all the other 500+ Corvette friends. After dinner we will do the same as the day before – Party Party Party !!!!! On Sunday, June 5th, after a rich breakfast we all meet again at the parking lot where we once again start in groups of 20 – 25 cars. Our way leads us to a special destination such as a medieval fortress, a military base, a historical monument or castle, US Army barracks o.s. After this exciting, informative and interesting day we return to the Ringberg Hotel a little earlier than Saturday because mostly a nice surprise - as two years ago the visit of Callaway Competition with team and driver and their racecars of the ADAC GT Masters races – awaits us – as well as a large crowd of people for the Country-Festival. Since it is the last evening of this great event we either enjoy a romantic country barbecue or a nice Farewell dinner. On Monday, June 6th, we will enjoy a long cozy breakfast together with all other Corvette friends from all over the World before we check out, say Good-Bye and head back to Munich. On our long way back to Munich we will stop somewhere nice for a little lunch break. After our arrival in Munich we will move in to the “Best Western Plus Hotel ERB”, where we wait for the new participants to arrive the next day for the following 2 weeks. Until it’s time to go for dinner you can relax and or enjoy a drink at the hotel bar after the long drive. We will have our evening dinner in the hotel owned Restaurant “Almgrill. On Tuesday, June 7th you can enjoy the hotel owned spa area “Almdorf SPA” and relax in 5 different saunas and the steam bath or go shopping at the many outlet stores of “Parsdorf City” in walking distance from the hotel, while we will pick up the newly arrived participants at Munich Airport and bring them to Hotel ERB. On Wednesday, June 8th we will leave “Hotel ERB” at 10 AM. We will drive a short distance on the German Autobahn A99 / A8 to exit Holzkirchen and then ride the nice country roads (100 km) along the beautiful Lake and Village Tegernsee to Lake Achensee, where we will enjoy a nice lunch break around noon in the nicely located Restaurant “Bergkristall” on their beautiful terrace overlooking the lake and the mountains. After lunch we drive 170 km on country roads and/or Austrian and Italian highways to Bolzano in South Tyrol, Italy. Bolzano (Italian) or Bozen (German) is the capital city of South Tyrol, the German speaking region in the northern part of Italy. Bolzano is the largest city in the region. Its archaeology museum is famous worldwide as the home of the alpine iceman "Ötzi". It is also known as the Italian Capital of Christmas thanks to its characteristic Christmas market. Bolzano's population is around 100,000 (140,000 including the metropolitan area). 25% of inhabitants speak German as their mother tongue, which is much higher in the non-urban parts of the province (up to more than 90% in some areas), making the city and province officially bilingual. Together with Innsbruck, Bolzano is officially the capital of the Alps because the seat of the Alpine Convention is there. The world-famous Museum of Archaeology with the Iceman and the Messner Mountain Museum's main seat make Bolzano a world city of mountaineering history and culture. We will check in to the wonderful Downtown “Parkhotel Laurin” in the center of the beautiful lively city Bolzano in Alto Adige, where we also will have dinner together in the nice restaurant of our hotel. But before dinner there’ll be enough time to walk through beautiful downtown Bolzano and maybe have a “gelato” or espresso at Walter’s place. On Thursday, June 9th, after a relaxed breakfast we will drive south to Lake Garda on the Autostrada A 22 where we exit Rovereto South to Riva del Garda and drive the breathtaking scenic Gardesana road along Lake Garda to Sirmione. On our wonderful curvy ride along the lake we will stop at the hip bar and gelateria “Barino 2.0” for a little relaxing waterfront lunch or coffee and ice cream break. After this nice stop we will follow the lake through the little romantic fisher villages Torri del Benaco, Garda, Lazise, Bardolino and Peschiera del Garda to lovely peninsula village Sirmione with its historical “Castello Scagliero”.

The natural landscape provokes artists to revive it with architecture. Architects overcome technical limitations, physiographic, customary more or less picturesquely incorporating their works into the richness of natural forms. Many benefits come from this recklessness for the region. The hit trend is also appreciated for the triumph of technical thought. It puts into confusion at once because of the gradual takeover of the natural environment. The aim of the work is to search for solutions that would help preserve the beauty of the mountain environment and at the same time make the widest group of recipients available. Analyzing the above issues, the comparative method was used, presenting achievements in the field of high-altitude objects design in extreme physiographic conditions, implemented in the Alps region. The region has a developed ski and tourist infrastructure. It is an example of maintaining moderation and specific character, despite growing new needs and expectations from tourists and sportsmen. However, it is not free from the over-investment trap. 1 Preface Clean glaciers, lakes, quiet valleys, deep ravines, animals leaving the hiding place in search of food, human footprints only on hiking trails, peaceful villages. More than a century ago amateurs of such mountains are now looking for contact with nature in romantic huts in a remote area.

  • 5 Go Mad in Austria
5 go mad in Austria. escape v. 1. get free of restriction or control by fleeing or exertion. 2. get clear away from. Last year (2006) in what my family and friends called a "late life crisis" ( my 50th birthday ) I packed up my BMW R1200GS and headed off to the Alps in search of paradise and no I didn’t come home with a Bounty, I came back to N. Ireland after 2 weeks away with an exhausted bank account, 30 of the major Alpine passes covered in 4,000 miles and a very, very wide smile. This smile was so obvious to my biking colleagues in the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service that most of them wanted in on the next trip, so when I bumped into Klaus Stubenbock at the Motorcycle Show in the N.E.C. in November 2006 it seemed too good to be true. Klaus looked like a hyper Pixie in Austrian traditional Lederhosen at his stand in the touring section of the Show and quickly convinced me that there was a better way to see the Alps on a bike than riding my own all the way there and back as well as being a lot more cost and time efficient (It had cost me over £700 and 3 days riding each way to get to Austria from N. Ireland on my own bike). After talking it over with my workmates and costing it all out, 5 of us took the plunge in February and booked our flights from Dublin to Friedrichshafen in Southern Germany with Ryanair for the 2nd week in September.

  • TYROL If You Could Bottle Everything That Sums up Austria
© Lonely Planet Publications 329 Tyrol If you could bottle everything that sums up Austria surely Tyrol would be it: from the woodsy log chalets and wholesome food to the thigh-slapping tradition and alpine peaks rising like shark fins in a frothy white ocean. Few places can match it on a winter’s day, with a big sky above, dazzling snow crunching underfoot and bracing mountain air filling your lungs. No wonder the locals are notoriously proud and independent. Who wouldn’t be with all that? There are plenty of reasons to fall for Tyrol: the people are down-to-earth, sincere and marvellously eccentric; the cities such as Innsbruck and Kufstein are gems (overshadowed by frosty mountains and complete with precipitous castles and medieval backstreets); the schnapps is potent; the powder deep; and the culture a happy marriage of old and new – shifting from rural farms and cobbled alleyways to Zen-like spas and crystalline edifices. But it’s the Alps that steal the show in a ‘wow I’m in Austria’ kind of way and nowhere else are they more prominent or accessible. Tyrol is a beauty with bumps and curves in all the right places, with resorts like Kitzbühel where you can find your ski legs, Mayrhofen where they’ll turn to jelly on black runs, and St Anton where you can get legless in après-ski bars before wobbling down the valley. When sunshine spills across the green vales in summer, walks stretch from gentle strolls to week-long tramps over windswept passes where, with any luck, you might spot an eagle: Tyrol’s most famous yet elusive high-flyer.

  • HOHE TAUERN NATIONAL PARK REGION River Oroffamountain’Sedge
© Lonely Planet Publications 310 Hohe Tauern National Park Region Hohe Tauern National Park is no place for acrophobes: you’re constantly on a high. This vast tract of mountainous terrain is Austria’s largest nature reserve, and three is its magic number: almost 300 peaks towering 3000m create enormous ripples in the landscape. The park is carved up between Carinthia, Tyrol and Salzburgerland (which naturally stole the biggest slice of the strudel). The scenery invites applause: waterfalls gouge deep ravines, Pinzgauer cattle graze spongy pastures, vultures wheel in a china-blue sky and glaciers shimmer like diamonds in spiky tiaras. It is amazing. The central vein is the precipitous Grossglockner Road, which twists like a ribbon through a crumpled white sheet at the foot of Grossglockner (3797m), the grandaddy of the Austrian Alps. Down south the Dolomites give you a toothy grin in Lienz, a Roman-rooted city with Italian pizzazz, while stepping west the Krimml Falls begin to thunder when the ice cracks. Further north it’s a different picture, with life spiralling around the lake at Zell am See and Bad Gastein serving up a winning combination of ski and spa. This is where Austria’s wild things are, but it’s no empty wilderness and the resident marmots, chamois and ibex share their playground with active types. The locals have been legging it up these peaks since the Stone Age, so it stands to reason that opportunities for serious hiking are plentiful. If you’d prefer to freewheel over hill and dale, tourist offices hand out maps of the cycling routes that crisscross the reserve.
