Five Million Audi Quattro Drive Systems – Victory Lap for a Superior Technology
Five million Audi quattro drive systems – victory lap for a superior technology • Five millionth Audi with permanent all-wheel drive rolls off the assembly line • A successful 33 years for quattro on the road and in motorsport AUDI AG celebrates a very special event today – the five millionth Audi with a quattro drive system. The car is a white Audi A6 allroad 3.0 TDI; it rolled off the assembly line at the Neckarsulm plant. The record is a testament to the leading role played by the pioneering all-wheel drive – no other premium brand in the world can claim such high sales figures for a four-wheel drive or a comparable range of models boasting more than 140 quattro variants. quattro technology debuted in 1980 in the legendary, original quattro car. Adding together all of the available body types, engines and drive systems amounts to more than 140 different models. Audi offers the widest range of cars by far with all-wheel drive: the Audi Q7, R8, A4 allroad, A6 allroad as well as all S and RS models are available exclusively with quattro drives; Audi offers it as an option in all other model lines. "quattro is one of the key pillars of our brand and has been a critical factor in our successful history," said Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "The quattro permanent all- wheel drive makes it possible to directly experience our 'Vorsprung durch Technik.' We are committed to our pioneering role and will continue to develop this advantage with new technologies." quattro is more than a technology – it is an icon. -

A Hydrographic Approach to the Alps

Rhine], is short arid for purposes of practical convenience scarcely requires subdivision, but the distinction between the Aar basin (actually Reuss, and Limmat) and that of the Rhine itself, is of too great significance to be overlooked, to say nothing of the magnitude and importance of the Major Branch System involved. This gives two Basic Sections of very unequal dimensions, but the ., Alps being of natural origin cannot be expected to fall into more or less equal com partments. Two rather less unbalanced sections could be obtained by differentiating Ticino.- and Adda-drainage on the Po-side, but this would exhibit both hydrographic and Alpine inferiority. Overview Dramatic pinnacles of white rock, flower-filled meadows, fir forests, and picturesque villages are all part of the renowned Italian Dolomites, protected in national and regional parks and recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The luminous limestone range is the result of geological transformation from ancient sea floor to mountaintop. The region is a landscape of grassy balconies perched above Alpine lakes, and Tyrolean hamlets nestled in lush valleys, crisscrossed by countless hiking and walking trails connecting villages, Alpine refuges, and cable cars. The Dolomites form the frontier between Germanic Northern Europe and the Latin South. -

Zufrieden. Kurvensatt. Positiv geladen. Wir können davon nicht genug bekommen. Und des- halb: „Lass uns doch mal ...“ — “Let’s drive over the Dolomites and down to Venice!” For all “Soulful Drivers”, this is an emotional key phrase which im- mediately sets off fireworks of pure joy in every synapse. Images are created in the mind that blend almost forbidden wilderness with sensual beauty. The north of Italy lives from intoxicating emotions and sharp contrasts that are unparal- leled in the Alps. One moment you find yourself in an intense duel with the switchbacks of the Stelvio Pass – and the next minute you’re cruising over the wide, simmering plains down to the Mediterranean. Happy. Curve-satiated. Positively charged. We simply can’t get enough of it. It occurs within the S-charl-Campo Crystalline in Northern Italy. Laas Marble is often pure-white, sometimes grey, and is mostly calcitic. It frequently contains quartz, mica and sometimes tremolite as accessory minerals. Its grain size decreases from east to west depending on the (Alpine) metamorphic grade, with a maximum grain size ranging from 2.5 mm near Morter (east) to between 0.6 and 1.75 mm near Laas (west). The whiteness values of Laas Marble ranges from 94.63 to 97.04 %. The highest whiteness values were recorded for samples from the operating "Weiß- wasserbruch" underground quarry near Laas._____________________________________________________________________ Laas Marble has been used since prehistoric times and is still in use today.
