EN It’s our first day together and even though the climb to the Mendel Pass is of particular beauty and therefore often the timed stretch for the Giro delle Dolomiti and the Tour of the Alps and the Giro d’Italia, we thought it would be too early to measure our physical condition and decided to do a long but less steep climb from Fondo to the Palade Pass on the frontier between Alto Adige Südtirol and the Province of Trento. -

A Hydrographic Approach to the Alps

North Sea], or from E. toW. as [North Sea . w. Adriatic]. The Basic Watershed, which also answers to the title [Po ~ w. Rhine], is short arid for purposes of practical convenience scarcely requires subdivision, but the distinction between the Aar basin (actually Reuss, and Limmat) and that of the Rhine itself, is of too great significance to be overlooked, to say nothing of the magnitude and importance of the Major Branch System involved. This gives two Basic Sections of very unequal dimensions, but the ., Alps being of natural origin cannot be expected to fall into more or less equal com partments. Two rather less unbalanced sections could be obtained by differentiating Ticino.- and Adda-drainage on the Po-side, but this would exhibit both hydrographic and Alpine inferiority. Apple-Producing Family Farms in South Tyrol: an Agriculture Innovation Case Study
OCCASIONAL PAPERS ON INNOVATION IN FAMILY FARMING Apple production in South Tyrol is a true illustration of a vibrant agricultural innovation system. It is a collaborative and pluralistic structure that comprises private and public actors, different tiers of producer organizations, cooperatives, research, extension and advisory services, all geared towards integrating small-scale apple producers in a highly productive, profitable and efficient system. Today, apple production is a main family farming activity in South Tyrol, practised on a total area of 19 000 ha with an average landholding of 2.5 ha. Up to 95% of the farmers are members of cooperatives. Over 8 000 small-scale producers have joined together in cooperatives that are clustered to form two main producer organizations. Small farmers in South Tyrol currently produce 50%, 15% and 2% of apples on the Italian, European and global markets respectively. APPLE-PRODUCING The cooperative culture, the diversity of services, the multiple actors and their changing roles within the system offer a good opportunity for learning about the dynamics of FAMILY FARMS IN SOUTH TYROL: agricultural innovation. This paper presents the evolution of this agricultural innovation system, and analyses the triggers and the drivers of innovation in the apple production AN AGRICULTURE INNOVATION sector in South Tyrol. The North-South Divide in Italy: Reality Or Perception?
CORE Metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk EUROPEAN SPATIAL RESEARCH AND POLICY Volume 25 2018 Number 1 http://dx.doi.org/10.18778/1231-1952.25.1.03 Dario MUSOLINO∗ THE NORTH-SOUTH DIVIDE IN ITALY: REALITY OR PERCEPTION? Abstract. Although the literature about the objective socio-economic characteristics of the Italian North- South divide is wide and exhaustive, the question of how it is perceived is much less investigated and studied. Moreover, the consistency between the reality and the perception of the North-South divide is completely unexplored. The paper presents and discusses some relevant analyses on this issue, using the findings of a research study on the stated locational preferences of entrepreneurs in Italy. Its ultimate aim, therefore, is to suggest a new approach to the analysis of the macro-regional development gaps. What emerges from these analyses is that the perception of the North-South divide is not consistent with its objective economic characteristics. One of these inconsistencies concerns the width of the ‘per- ception gap’, which is bigger than the ‘reality gap’. Another inconsistency concerns how entrepreneurs perceive in their mental maps regions and provinces in Northern and Southern Italy. The impression is that Italian entrepreneurs have a stereotyped, much too negative, image of Southern Italy, almost a ‘wall in the head’, as also can be observed in the German case (with respect to the East-West divide). Keywords: North-South divide, stated locational preferences, perception, image. 1. INTRODUCTION The North-South divide1 is probably the most known and most persistent charac- teristic of the Italian economic geography. -

Biathlon Centre Antholz/Anterselva Welcome to South Tyrol!
50 th EFNS European Forester‘s competition in Nordic Skiing 28.01. - 03.02.2018 Welcome to South Tyrol! Biathlon centre Antholz/Anterselva Südtirol Arena Alto Adige Welcome to Antholz, Welcome to South Tyrol! 1 Dear Sport Friends, on behalf of the South Tyrolian Forestry Association, I would like to welcome you to the “European Forester's Competition in Nordic Skiing” in South Tyrol. This year, the EFNS championship takes place for the 50th time. A very special anniversary – and it is a pleasure to host this event. The location Antholz/Anterselva, where the Biathlon World Cup takes place annually, is famous all over Europe. It is a wonderful sporting area in the middle of forests in between the Lake of Antholz and the stunning mountains of the Rieserferner Group. It’s already the third time that the South Tyrolian Forestry Association hosts the “European Forester's Competition in Nordic Skiing”. The competition has already been held in 1984 in Kastelruth/Castelrotto and 1992 in Toblach/Dobbiaco. 26 years later, it returns for its 50th anniversary. The organising committee led by our motivated chair Heinrich Schwingshackl has been working intensively for over 2 years to organize interesting competitions and an attractive frame programme. A very special highlight is the Jubilee Run “50 Years EFNS”: Every cross-country enthusiast can run the popular Tour de Ski course from Cortina to Toblach/Dobbiaco without timekeeping. EFNS is not only about sports competitions but also about friendship without borders. It is remarkable that so many participants with different jobs in the wood and forestry sector of over 20 European Countries come together. -
