Where’s the Dude? The Great Movie Spotting Challenge takes a highly original approach to the “seek and find” genre, as the Dude from The Big Lebowski slouches his way into other great films. And The Movie Kama Sutra combines two genres as it turns iconic moments in films into novel sexual positions, in a brilliantly funny spoof of sex guides. Elephants on Tour: An Around-the-World Adventure is the first book by the brilliant French illustrator Guillaume Cornet. His amazingly detailed and utterly charming work shows five elephants of very different temperaments trying to find their way in several of the great cities of the world. For those not content to be surprised or entertained by what they see and read, but want to change a world which seems increasingly dark, there is Resist! The Boston Conservatory, 2007 Committee Chair: Dr. Jonathan Kregor, Ph.D. Abstract The 1918 ballet, Parade, and its music by Erik Satie is a fascinating, and historically significant example of the avant-garde, yet it has not received full attention in the field of musicology. This thesis will provide a study of Parade and the avant-garde, and specifically discuss the ways in which the avant-garde creates a dialectic between the expressiveness of the artwork and the listener’s emotional response. Because it explores the traditional boundaries of art, the avant-garde often resides outside the normal vein of aesthetic theoretical inquiry. However, expression theories can be effectively used to elucidate the aesthetics at play in Parade as well as the implications for expressability present in this avant-garde work. The expression theory of Jenefer Robinson allows for the distinction between expression and evocation (emotions evoked in the listener), and between the composer’s aesthetical goal and the listener’s reaction to an artwork. This has an ideal application in avant-garde works, because it is here that these two categories manifest themselves as so grossly disparate.

For your consideration I propose a work tentatively titled “Flame”. I believe it to be simple-yet- compelling, symbolic, and appropriate to this setting. Dimensions will be 20 feet high by 14.5 feet wide by 14.5 feet deep. It sits on a 3.5 feet high by 9 feet in diameter base. (not accurately dimensioned in the 3D graphics) The composition. The design has substance, and yet, there is practically no impediment to drivers’ visibility. After review of the design by a structural engineer the flame flicks may need to be pierced with openings to meet the 150 mph wind velocity requirement. I see no problem in adjusting the design to accommodate any change like this. Fire can represent our passions, zeal, creativity, and motivation. The “flame” can suggest the light held by the Statue of Liberty, the fire from Prometheus, the spirit of the city, and the hearth-fire of 612.207.8895 | jgsculpture.webs.com | [email protected] 14th Street Roundabout Page 435 of 1673 Gabbert Sarasota Roundabout 41&14th James Gabbert Sculptor home. It would be lit at night with a soft glow from within. A flame creates a sense of place because everyone is drawn to a fire. A flame sheds light and warmth.     < Back to Euan Macleod’s profile EUAN MACLEOD Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, 1956, Macleod completed a Certificate in Graphic Design at Christchurch Technical Institute between 1974 and 1975 and a Diploma of Fine Arts (Painting) at the Canterbury University, Christchurch, from 1977 to 1979. He moved to Sydney in 1981. Macleod has an impressive solo exhibition history showing regularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Christchurch in addition to numerous group exhibitions, prizes and residencies. Twelve years after the first survey of his work was mounted by Newcastle Region Gallery in 1998, a comprehensive touring exhibition covering the years 1991 – 2009 was curated by Gavin Wilson for Tweed River Art Gallery. Also in 2010, Piper Press published a major monograph written by New Zealand author Gregory O’Brien. Macleod lives and works in Sydney.     Power and Softness: The Image of the Horse as a Vehicle for New Repre- sentations of Power Aramis September BACHELOR’S THESIS May 2021 Degree Programme in Media and Arts Fine Art ABSTRACT Tampereen ammattikorkeakoulu Tampere University of Applied Sciences Degree Programme in Media and Arts Fine Art SEPTEMBER, ARAMIS: Power and Softness The Image of the Horse as a Vehicle for New Representations of Power Bachelor's thesis 45 pages May 2021 The purpose of this thesis was to analyse representations of the horse in art history and examine ways in which representations of the horse could be used to posit new positive representations of power. The theoretical section explored the lineage of horse imagery in art history; this section also explored power imagery as well. The portrayal of the horse in Western art was analysed from the Renaissance onwards in order to have a firm historical understanding. From this base of understanding, the potential for new image creation was discussed. Paintings and statues were the primary fo- cus of the thesis for its analysis. Possibilities for new and more positive images of power were explored through visuals featuring horses. The analysis suggested that because of the horse’s roots in art history as well as its powerful physical strength, status as a prey animal, and its gentle sensit- ivity, the horse was an image eminently suited for use in positing new and posit- ive non-toxic images of power. Further, the analysis suggested that these new explorations stand in opposition to power images and power conceptualisations based in toxic masculinity and patriarchy.
