Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for this opportunity.
For your consideration I propose a work tentatively titled “Flame”. I believe it to be simple-yet- compelling, symbolic, and appropriate to this setting.
Dimensions will be 20 feet high by 14.5 feet wide by 14.5 feet deep. It sits on a 3.5 feet high by 9 feet in diameter base. (not accurately dimensioned in the 3D graphics)
The composition. The design has substance, and yet, there is practically no impediment to drivers’ visibility. After review of the design by a structural engineer the flame flicks may need to be pierced with openings to meet the 150 mph wind velocity requirement. I see no problem in adjusting the design to accommodate any change like this. Fire can represent our passions, zeal, creativity, and motivation. The “flame” can suggest the light held by the Statue of Liberty, the fire from Prometheus, the spirit of the city, and the hearth-fire of

home. It would be lit at night with a soft glow from within. A flame creates a sense of place because everyone is drawn to a fire. A flame sheds light and warmth. Reference my “Hopes and Dreams” in my work example to get a sense of what this would look like. The four circles suggest unity and wholeness, or, the circle of life, or, the earth/universe. The four circles may suggest the four points of the compass.
Description of materials: The circles and the central downward support elements are 3.5 inch diameter stainless steel pipe. The “flame” elements and supporting structures are laser-cut from 1/4 plate and 3/16 plate stainless steel plate. The form will be enhanced with LED lighting within the sculpture and, if appropriate, spotlighting from the ground. The pipe will hold the wiring for the interior lighting. Flame will be secured from a stainless steel plates with stainless steel bolts into a concrete base.
The look of stainless steel is bright, neutral and contemporary. It conflicts with nothing and embraces all the colors around it. It accepts whatever color light we choose to shine on it.
Maintenance: Stainless steel has proven itself to be a reliable low maintenance material. It is a well-known material to any professional restorer. A coating can be applied to address graffiti removal and would need to be reapplied per the supplier’s (most likely Tnemec) recommendations.
My 30+ years of business leadership has provided me extensive budgeting and project management of multimillion dollar projects, as well as actively leading construction projects. I know how to deliver on time and on budget. My business experience also brings you an experienced listener who is willing and able to adapt to the needs and wants of the customer.
My fabricator’s 30+ years of foundry and public art experience provides invaluable expertise. Casting Creations (http://castingcreations.us) has installations around the country and the world.
My philosophy on public art is one of collaboration. Ultimately, a work of public art emerges from the vision of many people. As an owner of home furnishings retail stores I always saw an opportunity in another person’s better idea. Art, any art, is about letting go of an idea for a better one. Indeed, I find this to be the most exciting and rewarding part of the creative process. The surrounding environment is the ultimate influence to any good public art work. Just like interior design once the building is completed one must “collaborate” with the space given, and not work against it.

An artist is solely responsible for the artwork. And yet, the challenge/opportunity is to have the completed work be as much the community’s as it is the artist’s. This is achieved through the process of listening to key stakeholder and serious engagement with the spaces and materials surrounding it. My favorite example of this is “Hopes and Dreams”. The intention of this commission was to honor, but not portray, Mercy Hospital’s beloved long time Chaplain. The sculpture emerged through numerous conversations. His widow said he believed God was “a big loving mama”. This became the larger than life-size, plus-size woman sitting and approachable with a ready lap. His successor told me he was deeply involved in the design of the Chapel’s stained-glass window: a contemporized “dreamcatcher” with flame representing the Holy Spirit. I echoed the idea with the dreamcatcher element. I learned the hospital staff voted to name the new garden: “Hope Garden”. This became the figure’s pose as an expression of hope. Always in mind was the support for patients and their families who seek solitude and strength from this Garden space with its circular design. These ideas, gleaned from multiple conversation came together to create “Hopes and Dreams”. I thrive within this learning process.
I find this project to be a very exciting opportunity, one very much in my wheelhouse as you can see by my completed public artworks. And, it is 40 minutes from my winter home.
Sincerely, James Gabbert

I create art to be provocative, that is, to provoke the mind, heart or spirit to experience something new or rekindle something forgotten. I believe art should be beautiful so as to draw the heart and spirit into it so the viewer leaves with something more. I strive for my art to be a unique contribution to our collective understanding of humankind.

I was originally born is Transylvania and lived for 20 years in Hungary, learning the art of bronze casting, direct wax sculpting technique and how to combine bronze and metal with stone for an exciting result.I was very fortunate because I was able to make wonderful life size public artworks, I love to do big size sculptures because I think is important to have people coming very close to the sculpture, give them possibility to touch and admire the work. In summer 2019 I moved with my wife and two sons to Florida, because I was always attracted of this amazing nature, ocean, diversity of nations and culture. Music and nature always inspired me that\'s why I would like, through my work, to show the entire world the colorful, joyful, eternal \"treasure\" of Sarasota. I found friends, very professional people, they work together like a big family and I feel honored to work with them at \"BronzArt\" Foundry Sarasota. I am waiting with very much excitement for your decision. Respectfully, G.G sculptor

Title: The Golden Years (“Kaizen”) is a celebration of Aging and Wellness. A Lily flower pad sits atop water with a dragonfly hoovering, as its eggs are hatched in water subtly depicted in glass around the siding).
Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning continuous improvements daily, a great message for all ages.
The dragonfly couldn’t exist without its essential connection to the water. Likewise, this piece represents interdependence of the natural world of Florida nature. It should ring as a tribute to the aging within our City; respecting the lifecycle, and also an appreciation of diversity (Asian‐inspired).

Artist’s Proposal
14th Street Roundabout Page 465 of 1673 Godfrey
I am an accomplished public artist having completed large-scale commissions for private clients, municipalities, museums and universities. I am available in the timeframe set out in the RFQ.
I create large-scale public sculptures by packing and stacking conic and cylindrical steel forms. Natural geometries and systems, from plant spores; to seashells; to honeycombs; inspire my work where simple rules give rise to extraordinary complexity. My working methods are grounded in empirical knowledge, experimentation, carefully conceived structural processes combining cutting edge digital technologies with custom craftsmanship. My projects are inextricably site specific and dependent and emphasize relational existence of form within contexts of material, process, public space, and collaboration. My sculptures are acts of interpretation not declaration. The parts form a community of similar, yet distinct, dependent elements -- an aesthetic, structural, and material ecosystem.
Working in the public realm is at root collaborative, requiring strong vision, the ability to listen and negotiate, patience and, where necessary, compromise. “Concordia” commissioned for the roof of the Downtown Art Center in Lexington, KY demonstrates my approach to site and community. The sculpture rests against two formerly distinct buildings and stylistically different facades. Just as the Art Center augments, strengthens and shoulders the larger community, my sculpture references the buttress that shores up, reinforces and sustains a larger structure. The rooftop site presented unique challenges, which required extensive consultation with architects, engineers and riggers as well as skillful negotiations with client, city agencies and stakeholders.
I am imagining spherical structure of packed conic sections fabricated from corten steel and attached to each other with stainless steel bolts; tuned LED light fixtures at the concrete base would light the sculpture from inside. If selected I look forward working with the design team, contractors and community stakeholders to find a creative and effective solution for your project.

CREATIVE RATIONALE
DANCE IN SPIRAL Sculpture 14th Street Roundabout
Since the human race had its first settlements and the first civilizations were born, its development has been continuous. There has been a need to contribute to a social, cultural, political, urban and spiritual order. This impact has been manifested through modern times, where with that same need, after centuries of searching, human beings have pursued a development in tune with the various processes in its evolution. Today we clearly perceive how a large part of these concepts of coexistence continue to be in force as centuries go by.
I am a contemporary universal artist and I my energy moves in parallel with the technological advances in a world in constant progress. With my work "Dancing in Spiral" I try to capture that sense of development. The city of Sarasota has been experiencing this advancement in the 21st century. Sarasota is a city full of natural resources that make it very attractive for both urban and environmental developments. Its inhabitants also feel and obtain better infrastructure projects with an effective urban development plan. Its landscapes, coasts and development of infrastructure place it in a leading position to make this city one of the eminent on the extraordinarily beautiful coastal route of the Gulf.
My work "Dancing in Spiral" wants to celebrate and contribute to the cultural and social convergence that Sarasota currently enjoys. Its sensual movement invites the viewers to visually recreate as they travel around it from the perspective of their moving vehicles, but without leaving aside those who contemplate it from other points, such as pedestrians and residents of the area. Its dynamism will inspire, but not distract drivers. Its movement is subtle and organic to create a tenuous contrast to the public activity that will develop in the environment. The sculpture is composed of three main curved elements that are the conceptualized as dolphins; happy dolphins in their movement, dancing and interactions with each other. It is the representation of how a society chases a common good. The "dolphins" are the representation of us as a society. They dance in a spiral celebrating our world, our home. It is the ideal behavior to continue developing in, and as, community, without prejudice. In addition, one of these "dolphins" crowns a semi-curved and vertical central element. This element is the central body where all the magic happens. The spiral embraces the work and crowns two other elements that represent flowers. The flowers are a symbol of advancement, flowering, color and life.
In the 21st century, we hope to continuously contribute to our existence and to the values of a society full of progress, light and commitment. Let's dance, let's celebrate the human condition and the coexistence of quality of life and sense of belonging.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:
Carlos Guzmán Sculptor www.carlosguzmanpr.com
The sculpture will have dimensions of 21 'high x 7' wide and 12 deep and will be built in stainless steel in its entirety with an approximate weight of 2,500 pounds. The structural systems will also be constructed in stainless steel to avoid friction of alloys between metals.
Basically all the elements that make up the sculpture will be tied together so that the structure has enough strength to withstand various weather scenarios. My experience in the development of public art projects has given me the knowledge to carry out the works in different areas. As proof of this I can mention that all the sculptures made by this server resisted the onslaught of Hurricane Maria last September 2017 in Puerto Rico.
The structural designs will be contracted with a structural engineer who holds the licenses and expertise in force in the state of Florida and under its relevant infrastructure codes, as well as the designs of the foundations.
The sculpture is designed with a central module "body", which is the support axis of the rest of the elements that make up the sculpture. This structure is the one that will be anchored to the foundations of the base once the structural systems of the sculpture are designed. They will be the basis for tying up the rest of the elements, such as the spiral, the dolphins and the pistils crowned with the unfolding circular elements that simulate the flowers. The structural of the central body will be determined once the structural consultancy determines the type of tubular section necessary for it. The spiral, which will have a diameter of 7 'will have a diameter of 3 "40 gauge. This spiral is the one that will support two of the three dolphins at each end. The third dolphin will be crowned on the pearl white central module, creating balance and dynamism.
The central body will be polychromed in pearl white. This type of painting creates subtle litmus effects, creating a visual effect in the piece interesting both in the day and creating a subtle effect during night lighting. The spiral will go through the central module to create greater strength to the loads of the elements that compose it. Likewise, the skin of all the elements of the sculpture will be in 10 gauge type 3/16

stainless steel and argon and argon welding. All the structures will be of optimum calibers to guarantee the stability of the sculpture before an eventual atmospheric situation.
And finally the sculpture has two vertical "pistil" elements that have subtle curves with a circular and unfolded design "flowers" which will be painted in epoxy-urethane red- orange. The tonality of the color will be chosen according to the contrasts of the rest of the sculpture, which will be finished in stainless steel and treatments of epoxy sealers to guarantee a minimum of maintenance. All the materials to make the sculpture were selected taking into account the impact of atmospheric elements such as saltpeter, dust, etc.
The sculptor will submit a basic maintenance manual at the end of the work of art. This manual will assist in the eventual minimum maintenance by the department that custodies the public art works in the city of Sarasota.
The foundations will be made in coordination between the construction of the piece and the shoe to perform the installation properly. The bolts and anchor plate will be supplied according to the structural designs made by the structural engineer for these effects.

Coral Reefs/ Sea Lungs
The Florida Reef Tract is the third largest barrier reef in the world, running 360 miles along the Florida Keys, and it is one of the many of precious ecosystems upon which we depend here in Florida. Florida's coral reefs are disappearing faster than scientists had forecasted. The issues are many and complex—from acidification and pollution to climate change and boat impacts. The Florida Aquarium https://www.flaquarium.org/coral
While coral reefs only cover 0.0025 percent of the oceanic floor, they generate half of Earth's oxygen and absorb nearly one-third of the carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels.
As scientists, fishermen and scuba divers will attest the Florida Coral reefs are some of the best in the world. A treasure trove of information and abundance of marine life, the coral’s precious existence in the Florida waters is crucial to the marine species and ecosystems of the Florida Coast.
We are proposing an abstract sculpture that honors and celebrates these unique reefs. A large- scale abstraction in metal using colored and shaped tubing. The composition will resemble the colorful ecosystems and will also invoke images of body organs or “sea lungs”. This would sit atop a simple concrete plinth. The sculpture will be organic and playful, different viewpoints will play with complexities and compositions. As vehicles use the roundabouts they will mimic the

species that swim through the reefs. The abstraction will be whimsical and playful.
As coral reefs are organisms that live in coral communities below the ocean’s surface, by bringing them above ground we expose their existence to the Sarasota community. By creating an artwork that invokes discussion about their function and beauty we increase awareness around their peril.
We estimate this artwork to weigh approx 1200 lbs and be 20 ‘ tall.

The Guarden Indus Tree Series
Fine Artist David Hammel
This is a body of work inspired by plant life and industrial excess. It is influenced by human industry and its relationship to our environment. As industry expands, natural habitats decrease. Loss of plant life has a physical and aesthetic negative impact on our well-being. Trees are beneficial to our health as they provide oxygen, shade and habitat for wildlife. They are aesthetically pleasing and bring beauty to our lives. It is the artist’s intent to create a structure that pays homage to these magnificent natural sculptures. The Guarden Indus Tree sculpture would support the vision of the City of Sarasota with enduring natural beauty, charm and diversity and showcase the treasured beauty of our natural world.
The Guarden Indus Tree sculpture will be a steel structure created to resemble a Live Oak tree. The Indus Tree will be fabricated and welded using core-ten steel and incorporate recycled or repurposed steel as much as possible. The sculpture will be approximately 20 feet in height with a trunk diameter of 6-8 feet. The canopy will be approximately 15 feet across. The tree will be primed and painted with high quality exterior metallic paints (e.g. gold, silver and copper). The Garden Indus Tree will be illuminated with low wattage color changing lights that will enhance the metallic finish of the sculpture.

Landmark Sculpture - 14th Street and US 41 Roundabout February 27, 2019
Title: Trio of Water Birds
Project Description
For this location, I propose to sculpt a large scale work representing the shore birds and plants of coastal Florida. It would depict three native birds landing among reeds. The sculpture would be approximately twelve feet tall, weigh about 1,500 lbs, and would be fabricated of MIG welded corrosion resistant stainless steel. The sculpture would be bolted to a raised concrete slab to elevate the work to a desired height for viewing.
Such a sculpture would distinctively represent the natural environment that attracts so many visitors to Sarasota. As a Florida artist, I’m familiar with building sculptures that can weather the rigors of this area. My sculptures are hurricane proven, low maintenance, and permanent while reflecting the natural appeal of Florida wildlife.

Artist’s Proposal
14th Street Roundabout Page 569 of 1673 Horst
Thank you for the opportunity to submit this proposal for the Sarasota Roundabout Sculpture at 14th St. and US 41. I am excited to present what I think will be an important and community enhancing piece of public art.
My recent sculpture has focused on hidden aspects of the natural world. By looking at small details, some memorable images emerge at large scale.
“Coral Forest” is composed of 6 panels cut in the pattern of a form of soft coral—Callogorgia—found in the Gulf. The cut structures are placed to overlap and interweave creating a vibrant, and constantly changing—almost underwater—visual experience as we move toward and along side them.
The sculpture will be cut from 1/2 inch aluminum to a height of up to 20 feet. Each cut panel is 8 feet wide. Welded in a circular pattern and mounted on a raised concrete base 15’ in diameter, the piece is approximately 22’ wide and 20’ high. The weight of the sculpture is approximately 10,080 pounds.
The scale of the piece is large enough to make the installation visually engaging and to establish the new roundabout as an iconic feature of Sarasota. It will be lit at night so as to intensify the sculpture’s visual impact.
I see this roundabout installation as an invitation to connect the City of Sarasota with the beauty of the Gulf and the unseen but omnipresent underwater world.

ARTIST STATEMENT Public art-as I practice it-is [1.] immersive, [2.] particular and, [3.] inviting and playful.
[1.] For me, the most interesting public art is looked through as much as looked at; it responds to and changes with its surroundings; it enlivens the space around it and invites us, as we explore it, to sense some new things about our world. I seek to establish spaces that filter and reframe our experience.
[2.] I am interested in public art that takes its place in a social and architectural context; rather than as a generic commodity, I want my work to engage the community in which it is built in specific to take root in a process of listening to and learning from community members. I am committed to networking and building consensus for a project as it develops.
[3.] I want the substance of my work to evoke a response be it curiosity or recognition or momentary confusion. I am interested in the ways that familiar materials and textures can become mysterious and magical when viewed at an unfamiliar scale: the skeleton of a leaf becomes a forest of shapes; a fly\'s wing becomes a pattern of undulating waves.

POLY
Evocative of light passing through crystal clear water and of a wisp of cloud against a bright blue sky, Poly encapsulates the natural sensuous beauty of Sarasota. Blending in with its surrounding environment by day, the project transforms into a svelte lantern at night, serving as an iconic landmark that announces the presence of a roundabout to approaching vehicles. We’ve proposed a vessel whose form and meaning are polyvalent, but ultimately determined and filled by the public’s imagination.
Poly consists of laser cut steel sheets, folded and welded into prismatic tubes, powder coated with an anti-graffiti finish, and then stacked and bolted to one another.
Thanks for considering us for this opportunity. We’d be thrilled to build this project in Sarasota.

From R. Andre Maass listed above
To Whom It May Concern I have known the work of Linda Howard for at least thirty years. As the director of the Tampa Museum of Art (\'85-\'96), I worked with the City of Tampa on public art installations. One of Linda\'s was prominently installed downtown - later to be moved to Bayshore Boulevard. I have followed her work for years and have enjoyed seeing it throughout Florida on university campuses and in civic installations. In 2013/14, I had the privilege of being the Co-Curator of Sarasota\'s Season of Sculpture; Season VII. This was Sarasota\'s biennial exhibition of outdoor large-scale and monumental sculpture along its bay front. Together with Fayanne Hayes, we selected 8 national and international artists, including - Heinz Aeschlimann, Hans Van de Bovenkamp, Robert Chambers, Richard Herzog, Linda Howard, Jun Kaneko, Jae-Hyo Lee, and Boaz Vaadia. Choosing Linda\'s work was an easy choice. Linda was a studio companion of Hans Van de Bovenkamp almost 40 years ago and was a studio neighbor to Boas Vaadia some 25 years ago. Their styles overlap and inform one another. Linda thrives on public commissions and her work is wonderfully accessible to the connoisseur and layman alike. I could not recommend her more highly and I would not miss the opportunity to have one of her works in your collection.
For background and as I mentioned, I was the director of the Tampa Museum of Art for 11 years. Prior to that, I was the director of the Fresno Arts Center and then the Tucson Museum of Art. Following Tampa, I was the director of the Mississippi Museum of Art for five years. Project Location: Blind Boone Park, Warrensburg, Missouri.
“Ai Qiu is a true Artist. I gave her information on the subject I wished to honor with a sculpture and she immersed herself, lived and breathed this history until she came up with the most amazing drawings, poetry, maquette and finally full sized sculpture. She worked with us from a distance (we were in the Midwest and she on the coast), but sent me information constantly, wrote beautiful poetry about the experience,
brought the maquette and drawings to me personally, made video and photos of the process and simply created the most exciting sculpture for which we could have hoped. I wish she will create artworks for every city in the world. Pictures on the park website:

Vasyl’ masterful skill bas-relief sculpture/paintings and his deep meditation on the healinge and harmony in nature, will bring diversity of art to your project.
Biography Vasyl Mushyk. Born in 1963. Originally from Ukrainian Polissya (Woodlands). My happy childhood passed among forests, lakes and swamps, filled with a rich palette of colors, the variety of life, forms, sounds and the Great Mystery. My grandfather often told me wonderful stories about mythical inhabitants of the nature, about the spirits that inhabited the local places. Later on his stories played an important role in the formation of my perception of the world. My first acquaintance with the fine art was in my early childhood thanks to my aunt. Her drawings of vegetable ornaments for embroidery on clothing and towels fascinated me. Over the years, my passion for painting and a desire to become an artist only intensified. When I was 12, one of the main events of my life happened - I became a student of a professional artist Victor Bugayov (19361998). Thanks to the individual lessons at a high level, I received the classical training in drawing and painting.

Spirit of harmony and peace seen within nature, When I delve into the world of flora and fauna, I see the small as big and the big as small, in the world of sacred geometry. The amazing fractile pattern and intricate melody woven into the sights and sounds of nature.
Cycle of works narrate about eternal harmony of an alive nature uniting beginnings giving life all alive

The symbolic pictures of transparent figures diagram the spirit working within a being , creating vision and life force.
With the characters I create, I show something that is felt and is contained within the various living beings - the spirit essence, mother earth, the sources of life force. The symbolism of the paintings: Symbol of the sun - an inexhaustible source of Lifegiving, nourishing the spiritual and physical strength of the Earth and its inhabitants. nocturnal inhabitants. . The symbol of the heart - this is the spirit, the soul, the source of life force within every living being. Red thread - a thread of life that connects the world of plants, animals, the world
of men among themselves and with the source of life - the Sun, Moon, Mother Earth and the Universe. Stylized swastika - a symbol of cyclical and renewal in nature. A musician with a flute - a symbol of the music that accompanies all the processes occurring in the nature of the Earth and the Cosmos.
Contemplating and listening to the nature of the heart, I never cease to wonder and marvel at its beauty, filled with joy and peace from a variety of shapes, colors and sounds palette wealth. Ideas for my art and paintings I draw from the Great Book of Nature, each page of which is imbued with a profound sense of great peace, wisdom, and harmony.

Vasyl’ masterful skill bas-relief sculpture and his deep meditation on the wisdom of peace and harmony in nature, will bring diversity of art of international mastery and bring great contribution to your project.
1983 - 1988 - studying at the Kharkov State Technical University of Construction and Architecture on the specialty of architecture. During this time I was trained by a professional artist Vitaliy Kulikov (19352015).
As a student, I studied painting of Renaissance and Art Nouveau additionally. I also studied the anatomy of humans and animals. 1988 - 1991 - worked as an architect in a design organization. 1992 - 1997 - worked as a teacher of drawing and sketching at school. Since 1992 engaged in the projects of religious buildings` interior, easel and monumental painting for places of worship. 2004 - Kharkov, "Maestro" gallery. "Forest Land" Solo Exhibition. 2005 - Kharkov Art Museum. Solo exhibition "When the legends come to life." 2006 - Kharkov, "Maestro" gallery. Participation in the collective exhibition "It`s a wonderful, wonderful life." 2008 - Exhibition Hall of the Central Scientific Library of Kharkiv National University of Karazin. Personal exhibition "THREADS OF LIFE". 2011 - "Gomolsha Forests" National Park. Participation in ethno-ecological festival "Gomolsha ecotop". 2012 - Kharkov, gallery "Maestro". Participation in the collective exhibition "Man. Space. Time" 2012 - Kharkiv Regional Library for Youth. "The world of my sensations" Personal exhibition. 2012 - Exhibition Hall of the Central Scientific Library of Kharkiv National University of Karazin. Personal exhibition of paintings "Forest land". 2013 - Gallery "AVEC", Kharkov. "The magical world of swamps" Participation in the collective exhibition.
Spirit of harmony and peace seen within nature, When I delve into the world of flora and fauna, I see the small as big and the big as small, in the world of sacred geometry.

The amazing fractile pattern and intricate melody woven into the sights and sounds of nature. Cycle of works narrate about eternal harmony of an alive nature uniting beginnings giving life all alive - about Sun, Moon, our Earth-Mother, interrelation and interosculation of the various forms of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Moon - Life-Giving Spring nature nocturnal inhabitants. . The symbol of the heart - this is the spirit, the soul, the source of life force within every living being. Red thread - a thread of life that connects the world of plants, animals, the world of men among themselves and with the source of life - the Sun, Moon, Mother Earth and the Universe.
