1 of 4 Your Opportunity As a Senior Lecturer at TAFE Queensland Brisbane you will be responsible for course and/or unit coordination and teaching, including the development of curriculum materials and/or scholarly activity. You will also be responsible for leading a team of academics in the delivery of an applied learning model of higher education. As an academic at this level you are expected to lead significant debate about your discipline area and educational philosophy and contribute to your discipline at a national level. You will also lead engagement with industry ensuring support for the promotion of TAFE Queensland Brisbane’s applied learning philosophy. The position reports to the Director of Faculty, TAFE Queensland Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities Academic Leadership  Design innovative and effective curriculum which reflects developing best practice nationally and internationally utilising various methodologies including online and blended learning.  Provide advice to and mentor junior academic staff.  Make a leading academic and professional contribution to the teaching program and service delivery of your discipline.  Work with other academic staff to ensure that skills’ teaching is integrated into the rest of the curriculum such that the skills are explicitly taught, with increasing complexity, across the units.  Work with research staff to facilitate opportunities for student experience and contribution to research projects.  Lead the development and implementation of policies and processes to monitor and remediate students who do not progress as expected.  Lead the collection of data needed to establish an appropriate budget for teaching and service activities and ensure these activities are as cost effective as possible.  Lead and actively contribute to cross-disciplinary activities related to teaching, service delivery and placements.  Actively collaborate with other tertiary providers and teachers to develop robust and evidence-based processes, protocols and evaluation to support excellence in teaching. Teaching Performance and Leadership  Exercise a significant role in teaching and teaching development within the organisation.  Coordinate and teach into discipline units as required.  Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and workshops.  Take academic and professional responsibility for assessment within placement units and advise and support assessment of skills taught within other units.  Provide remedial activities for students not progressing as expected.  Assist with systematic evaluation of supervisor and student placement experience.  Undertake broad administration activities related to areas of teaching, specifically delivery of teaching, services and placements. Professional Leadership and Engagement  Maintain active links with professional associations and accreditation bodies.  Engage with industry in innovative and collaborative ways.  Lead debate with students, industry and the broader community on your discipline and TAFE Queensland Brisbane’s applied learning philosophy through a variety of mediums including online.  Provide leadership in broader faculty activities including planning and committee work.

Research and Scholarship  Undertake evaluation and research that will underpin excellence in teaching and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in your discipline. Other  Obtain funding from contracts/grants/consultancies to further discipline research and industry engagement.  Conduct and participate in the organisation’s performance planning and review processes.  Commitment to the implementation of equity and workplace health and safety principles.  Undertake other duties commensurate with the scope of the position as required by the Director of Faculty or Academic Dean.

The ability to lead high quality course delivery within an applied learning environment, in accordance with Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) standards, with a demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding client service. 4. Demonstrated record of achievement as a leading practitioner with a reputation for skills, knowledge and expertise at a national level. 5. Superior written and oral communication skills, as well as superior negotiation, influencing and listening skills. 6. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and sustain productive internal and external stakeholder relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Qualifications / Requirements Mandatory requirements:  Completion of a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation or standing. Highly desirable requirements:

 Experience with, or knowledge of, TEQSA standards.

Additional Information

 The duration of this position will be dependent on work demands and the availability of ongoing funding.  You will be required to travel and work across the region.  Travel and overnight absences from base may be required of this position.  A criminal history check will be initiated on the successful applicant.  A non-smoking policy applies in Queensland government buildings, offices and motor vehicles.  If the successful applicant has been engaged as a lobbyist, a statement of their employment is required.  You may be required to complete a period of probation.
