On 1 July 2013, TAFE Queensland was established as an independent statutory body under the TAFE Queensland Act 2013. The TAFE Queensland network comprises six regions delivering training from Thursday Island to the Gold Coast, from Bundaberg to Roma and across the South-east corner. For more information about TAFE Queensland visit www.tafeqld.edu.au Position Purpose The TAFE Queensland Brisbane Student Ambassador Program is a marketing initiative targeting current and continuing students. Key functions include participating in corporate events, contributing to marketing platforms and public speaking. Student Ambassador’s will work closely with the Marketing Team and will report to the Events and Engagement Manager. Key Responsibilities Student Ambassadors may be called upon to undertake one or more of the following duties depending on their expertise and the demand from faculties: Contribute to the successful transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Commerciality, Teamwork, Innovation and Accountability. Attend ad-hoc events as required and undertake tasks, such as event set up and pack down, greeting stakeholders, providing directions/information, coordinating interactive activities, and helping other staff / students. Engage with prospective students and promote TAFE Queensland Brisbane at recruitment events, such as careers expos and information sessions. This will entail greeting customers and talking about TAFE courses, support services, campus facilities, and own educational experience, with the goal of encouraging student enrolments. Publicly and actively advocate for TAFE Queensland - this will involve speaking publicly to small or large groups, and/or speaking one-on-one with students / stakeholders during marketing activities, such as the CRE8 Festival and Industry Insight Sessions. Engage with new and current students, in order to create an enjoyable and seamless TAFE experience. This will include proactively engaging and helping students at events, such as Orientation and Start of Study Week. Actively participate and represent the student body on the Board of Studies. You will be required to meet with the Board once a month to discuss and provide honest and productive input on academic matters. Contribute to the successful maintenance of the TAFE Queensland Brisbane social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and the Blog, by writing posts and sourcing engaging content and imagery. Be competent in the use of digital technologies when interacting with students and stakeholders, including the use of Apps, iPads, laptops, cameras, and other mobile devices. Perform administrative work within the marketing office on a minimum of one day per fortnight (to be negotiated based on the student’s study timetable). Must be competent with using various software packages (including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook), managing databases, and utilising standard office equipment. It is desirable (but not required) that ambassadors are competent in using the Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign and Photoshop). Timeframes The recruitment period closes on Friday 10 February 2017. Successful applicants will start on the Tuesday 28 February and will be rostered according to an annual calendar of corporate events, averaging approximately 40 hours over the total employment period. Ambassadors are appointed for one year and may re-apply the following year if they are continuing their study with TAFE Queensland Brisbane. Success Factors for the Role Within the context of the role described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key attributes: 1. Displays a positive image of TAFE Queensland Brisbane and its courses at all times. 2. A collaborative working style. 3. Approachability and willingness to engage with internal and external stakeholders. 4. Effective communication skills and the ability to provide high level customer service. 5. Displays flexibility / responsiveness and possesses the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment. Requirements Mandatory requirements: Must be currently enrolled as a student of TAFE Queensland Brisbane and must have at least twelve months left of study to be considered. Must be available for weekday, evening and weekend work when occasions arise. Must list citizenship and demonstrate a high level of English, both written and verbal. Must have their own transportation, so as to enable travel and work across different locations within the Brisbane region. Highly desirable requirements: Experience and confidence in presenting to a large audience. Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence held for at least six months. Current Blue Card holder or demonstrate an intent to obtain card. Further Information The duration of this position will be dependent on work demands and the availability of ongoing funding. You may be required to travel and work across different locations within the TAFE Queensland Brisbane region. A criminal history check will be initiated on the successful applicant. A non-smoking policy applies in Queensland government buildings, offices and motor vehicles. Contribute to the training of new ambassadors. You may be required to handle boxes of approximately 10kg in weight on a regular basis. You must proactively manage your own workflow, take ownership for the accurate completion of your work, perform duties in line with guidelines, procedures and compliance requirements and continually seek improvement in the way in which work is performed. Ambassador’s must demonstrate accountability and compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.     RATEP (community-based teacher education) Bachelor of Education (Primary) Description RATEP is a community-based teacher education program designed to enable First Nations people to become qualified teaching aides and/or registered teachers. RATEP is a partnership between TAFE Queensland (north), the Department of Education (State Schools) and James Cook University (Townsville). Careers & Pathways Graduates will be able to teach up to Year 9 in Education Queensland, Catholic and Independent schools. Entry Requirements The 4-year course is available to First Nations students who live in locations with access to a RATEP site, and who have achieved entry into the Bachelor of Education (Primary) based on their OP or other direct entry criteria. Students without a RATEP site are able to study via the offsite model. Alternatively, Indigenous students who have completed a Diploma of Education (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island) from TAFE North will receive several unit credits at JCU and follow a full-time 3/3½ year equivalent program to complete the Bachelor of Education. Proof of identity documentation is required for entry into this course. Fees The 2021 cost is $835.00 per subject if deferred via HECS. There is also an annual SSA Fee of $313.00. Location RATEP Centres are located in 12 schools throughout Queensland, located from Toowoomba in the south, to Bamaga in the north, on the east coast from Rockhampton to Cairns, and Mt Isa in the west. Aldridge State High School is one of these sites. Students can also study via the offsite mode (if not near a site). Study Mode Study is completed through interactive communication technology, intensive workshops, and on-site support.
