All recognized taxa will be clades; adherence to Linnaean ranks is optional. Synonymy is very incomplete (comprehensive synonymy is not a goal of the project, but could be incorporated). Although I anticipate producing a publishable version of this classification at a future date, my near- term goal is to produce a web-accessible version, which will be available to the public and which will be updated regularly through input from systematists familiar with taxa within the Lamiales. A Native Christmas Tree Adenanthos sericeus (right) does a great impression of the traditional Christmas tree and we will also have one as a raffle prize at the meeting. Standing out for its silvery foliage with a soft, velvet -like texture it is native to the south coast of Western Australia. It grows into a 1-5m tall shrub, ideal for growing in a pot and using as an indoor feature plant, even after the Christmas period has been and gone. Or plant it outside, where it’s red-orange flowers will attract native birds to your backyard. Approved Conservation Advice for Pityrodia Axillaris (Native Foxglove)
This conservation advice was approved by the Minister on 13 July 2010 Approved Conservation Advice for Pityrodia axillaris (Native Foxglove) (s266B of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999) This Conservation Advice has been developed based on the best available information at the time this conservation advice was approved; this includes existing plans, records or management prescriptions for this species. Description Pityrodia axillaris, Family Lamiaceae, also known as Native Foxglove or Woolly Foxglove, is a low, diffuse shrub that can grow to 0.3 m high. The flowers are red to yellowish-scarlet, vivid in appearance, and the flowering period is from July to December (Western Australian Herbarium, 2006; DEC, 2009). Conservation Status Native Foxglove is listed as critically endangered. This species is eligible for listing as critically endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cwlth) (EPBC Act) as the estimated total number of mature individuals is very low, and it has a very restricted geographic distribution which is precarious for its survival given the nature of ongoing threats (TSSC, 2009). The species is also listed as declared rare flora under the Western Australian Wildlife Conservation Act 1950, and is managed as critically endangered (according to IUCN criteria) by the Western Australian Government. Distribution and Habitat Native Foxglove is endemic to Western Australia. It is known from eight populations in the Morawa area, approximately 200 km south-east of Geraldton (DEC, 2009). The extent of occurrence of the species is approximately 30 km2 and its area of occupancy is less than 1 km2 (DEC, 2009). The population size of the species is estimated to be 120 mature plants. -

Parker, Updates to WA’s vascular plant census for 2012 503 Nuytsia The journal of the Western Australian Herbarium 23: 503–526 Published online 21 November 2013 SHORT COMMUNICATION Updates to Western Australia’s vascular plant census for 2012 The census database at the Western Australian Herbarium (PERTH) lists current names and recent synonymy for Western Australia’s native and naturalised vascular plants, as well as algae, bryophytes, lichens, slime moulds and some fungi. The names represented in the census are either sourced from published research or denote as yet unpublished names based on herbarium voucher specimens. We herein summarise the changes made to vascular plant records in this database during 2012. Ninety five taxa were newly recorded for the state, of which 11 are naturalised and 29 have been added to the Department of Parks and Wildlife’s (DPaW; formerly Department of Environment and Conservation) Threatened and Priority Flora list for Western Australia (Smith 2012) (Table 1). Three hundred and twenty six existing entries on the census underwent a name change (Table 2), including a number of taxa in Eucalyptus L’Her (Nicolle & French 2012; Nicolle et al. 2012), Polygala L. (Kerrigan 2012), and Commersonia J.R.Forst & G.Forst and Rulingia R.Br. (Wilkins & Whitlock 2011a, 2011b). Under the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH) guidelines for informal names (Barker 2005), manuscript names are being converted to phrase names unless publication is imminent. Sixty three manuscript names were updated to phrase names through this process, while 26 manuscript names and 49 phrase names were formally published (Table 2).
