The Earlyl and Thè Late Mozart Das Trio Eclettica, bestehend aus der Pianistin Giuseppina Coni, der Violinistin Giulia Cerra und der Cellistin Valeria Sirangelo, wurde 2012 in der Kammermusikklasse von Maestro Pierpaolo Maurizzi am Konservatorium A. Boito in Parma gegrùndet. Das Trio besuchte Meisterkurse bei Rainer Honeck (Konzertmeister der Wiener Philharmoniker), Yves Savary (Solocellist des Bayerischen Staatsorchesters) und Wolfgang Klos (Professor fùr Viola an der Universitàt fìir Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien), und wurde ausgewàhlt an der ECMA Session in Fiesole, unter der Leitung von Hatto Bayerle, Johannes Meissl, Susan Tomes und Enrico Bronzi teilzunehmen. Das Trio konzertierte u.a. im A u d i t o r i u m Principe Raimondo of D u i n o , dem Revoltella Museum von Triest, dem Auditorium del Carmine in Parma, beim ,,S. Giacomo Festival" und der «Fondazione Alma Mater" in Bologna. Im Màrz 2013 wurde dem Trio Eclettica das ,,Bruno Premuda Stipendium" zuerkannt (jury: R. Zanettovich, G. Vidusso und I. Rabaglia). 2013 hat das Trio den ersten Preis des XVI. Internationalen Wettbewerbes «Pietro Argento" und im Rahmen der ,,XIV International Chamber Music Competition" Trio di Trieste" den ,,Young Award" far junge vielversprechende Kùnstlerlnnen gewonnen. Dabei wurde das Ensemble von , der J u r y besonders far die beste Auffùhrung des Werkes ,,Rosa amara" v o n Rocco i de Già gewùrdigt. Derzeit arbeitet das Trio mit M° Renato Zanettovich und M° Pierpaolo Maurizzi am Konservatorium A. Boito in Parma und mit dem Trio Trio Eclettica di Parma im Rahmen der International Chamber Music A c a d e m y of Duino. Giuseppina Coni, Klavier Giulia Cetra, Violine Valeria Sirangelo, Violoncello Das 2003 am Konservatorium Bratislava gegrùndete Mucha Quartet zàhlt gegenwàrtig zu den erfolgversprechendsten jungen Ensembles der Slowakei. Der erste Lehrer des Quartetts war Stanislav M u c h a , der Valer des Cellisten Pavol Mucha und Primarius des Moyzes Quartetts, welches sich in den Studienjahren selbst ,,Mucha Quartet" nannte. Die Mitglieder des heutigen Mucha Quartets studieren Kammermusik an der Universitàt fùr Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien bei Johannes Meissl und an der Akademie fùr Musik und darstellende Kunst in Bratislava b e i J à n Slàvik. I m November 2010 gewann das Ensemble den 2. Preis b e i m internationalen ,,BohuslavMartinù Wettbewerb" in Prag, im F e b r u a r 2012 nahm das Quartett am prestigevollen ,,Internationalen Joseph Haydn Kammermusik Wettbewerb" in Wien teil, wo es mit berùhmten Persònlichkeiten ,,the Earlyl der Kammermusik in Kontakt kam. Beim ,,Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award" 2012 in Lugano erhielt das Mucha Quartet den 3. Preis, 2013 war es Semifinalist beim 18. Internationalen Kammermusik Wettbewerb in Illzach/ and thè Late Mozart' Frankreich. Im August 2013 bekam es den Preis des Primators von Piesfany fùr die Propagation der slowakischen Musik. Wichtige kùnstlerische Impulse erhielt das Mucha Quartet im Rahmen der Internationalen Sommerakademie 2012 (Parma - und 2013 in Reichenau von Peter Schuhmayer, J o h a n n e s Meissl, Othmar Mùller (Artis-Quartett Wien), Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartett), Miguel da Silva In Kooperation mit dem Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma. (Ysay'e Quartet), Evgenia Epshtein (Aviv Quartet), Jan Talich, Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Josef Kluson (Prazàk Quartet), Andràs Keller. Das Ensemble nahm Ausfuhrende: an Meisterkursen mit Gùnter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet)/Schwarzenberg (Voralberg) und mit Are Sandbakken (Oslo String Quartet) teil. Das Mucha Duo Parmigiani - Martelli, Trio Eclettica, Mucha Quartet Quartet konzertiert regelmàfiig in der Slowakei und im Ausland, zuletzt im Rahmen der Pressburger Musik Festspiele, J. N. Hummel-Kammermusiktagen und der Sonntagsmatineen in der Galerie der Stadt Bratislava/ Palais Mirbach, bei ,,Orpheus", ,,Pràsentation der jungen Komponisten", dem Nitra Musik Herbst, Di, 28. Jànner2014 Mucha Quartet der,,Albrechtina - (Un)Bekannte Musik", d e m Kammerzyklus der S l o w a k i s c h e n Juraj Tomka, 1. Violine Philharmonie, ,,Konfrontationen Nitra", , , T r e n c ì n musikalische Frùhling" ,,Musik Andre] Matis, 2. Violine far Trnava" Musiksommer Reichenau, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg und beim Beginn: 19.00 Uhr Veronika Prokesovà, Viola offiziellen Besuch der englischen Kònigin Elisabeth IL in der Slowakei (2008). Pavol Mucha, Violoncello Im November 2011 feierte das Ensemble sein Debut an der Luxemburger Ort: Joseph Haydn-Saal Philharmonie. D a s Mucha Quartet ist a u c h an mehreren kùnstlerischen P r o j e k t e n der Akademie in Bratislava beteiligt. Zukùnftige Projekte umfassen Konzerte im 3.,Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1 Rahmen des Projekts Musica Litera (Verbindung von der klassischen Musik und kùnstlerischem Wort) und ein Rezital im Wiener Musikverein im Frùhling 2014. In Kooperation mit dem Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma, werden Emina Parmigiani, Violine fruhe und spàte Quartetti una Trias von Mozart aufgefùhrt. Das Programm ist inspiriert vomfruhen Mozart, Mit ihren erst 16 J a h r e n fùhrt Emma Parmigiani im Duo Parmigiani der auf seinen italienischen Reisen ah 14- und IS-jàhriger scine - Martelli. Die junge Violinistin studiert am C o n s e r v a t o r i o Arrigo ersten Quartette geschrieben hat und dem ,,spàten" Mozart der Wiener Jahre Boito in Parma bei Grazia Serradimigni. Sie hat an Meisterklassen mit seinen berùhmten Quartetten und Trias. Es spielen das Mucha Quartet, von Ivan Rabaglia, Pierpaolo Maurizzi, Yves Savary und Luigi das Trio Eclettica und das Duo Parmigiani-Martelli. Mangiocavallo und an Barockmusik-Seminaren von Susanne Schultz teilgenommen. Im Jahr 2009 hat sie den ersten Preis beim europàischen Musikwettbewerb in Moncalieri gewonnen. 2011 gewann sie den ersten internationalen Wettbewerb «Mozart" in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sonate jfiir Violine und Klavier, B-Dur, KV454 Quinto Vicentino, den nationalen Wettbewerb in Riccione und (1756-1791) Largo - Allegro/ Andante/ Allegretto den Wettbewerb Jmpullitti von Pianoro" in Bologna. Emina Parmigiani, Violine Alice Martelli, Klavier Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sonate fìir Violine, Violoncello und Klavier, C-Dur, KV 14 Allegro/ Allegro/ Menuetto I - Menuetto II Alice Martelli, Klavier Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Trio fìir Klavier, Violine und Violoncello, E-Dur, KV 542 Alice Martelli wurde 1988 in Bologna geboren. Sie studierte bei Allegro/ Andante grazioso/ (Finale) Allegro Maestro Roberto Cappello am Konservatorium A . Boito in Parma, wo sie ihren Master 2013 mit summa cum laude absolvierte. 2011 Trio Eclettica studierte sie an der Universitàt fùr Musik und darstellende Kunst Giuseppina Coni, Klavier Wien bei Prof. S t e f a n Vladar. Im Oktober 2012 nahm die P i a n i s t i n Giulia Cerra, Violine an Kammerrnusik-Meisterkursen bei Rainer Honeck, Yves Savary und Pierpaolo Maurizzi teil. Sie gewann 2005 den 2. Preis beim Valeria Sirangelo, Violoncello J. S. Bach Klavierwettbewerb" in S e s t r i L e v a n t e (Genua). Wàhrend ihrer Studienzeit arbeitete Martelli als Korrepetitorin mit der Boys PAUSE Choir School (trebles) des Teatro Comunale in Bologna, das 2008 unter der Leitung von Silvia Rossi die englische Oper,,The Golden Vanity" zum ersten Mal in Italien auffùhrte. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Streichquartett Nr. 3, G-Dur, KV 156 Presto/ Adagio/ Tempo di Menuetto Alice Martelli kann bereits auf eine rege Konzerttàtigkeit im In- und Ausland verweisen, u. a. als Korrepetitorin fùr den Chor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Streichquartett Nr. 4, C-Dur, KV 157 Verdinaeum (geleitet von Silvia Rossi) im Rahmen des Festivals Allegro/ Andante/ Presto Japan International Youth Musicale" in Shizuoka (2009) und des internationalen Gitarrenwettbewerbs ^Maurizio Biasini" in Bologna. Martelli spielte gemeinsam mit 29 weiteren Pianisten Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Streichquartett Nr. 14, G-Dur, KV387 fùr Aura Music die Goldberg Variationen von J.S. Bach (2010) Allegro vivace assai/ Menuetto/Andante cantabile/ Molto allegro ein. Im Dezember 2011 hat sie mit dem Chor Verdianeum eine CD fùr MODUlab aufgenommen. 2012 spielte sie beim Bologna Mucha Quartet Festival mit dem Kammermusikensemble ,,Arrigo Boito" von Juraj Tomka, Violine I Parma und hat fùr Waveahead (Monopoli, Bari) gemeinsam mit Andrej Matis, Violine I I dem Gitarrist Marco Vinicio Carnicelli, das Konzert fùr Gitarre Veronika Prokeèovà, Viola op. 99 von J . Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez und M. Castelnuovo Pavol Mucha, Violoncello Tedesco aufgenommen. Seit nun drei J a h r e n spielt Alice Martelli mit Emma Parmigiani..

    NORTHERN STARS MUSIC FROM THE NORDIC AND BALTIC REGIONS NAXOS • MARCO POLO • ONDINE • PROPRIUS • SWEDISH SOCIETY • DACAPO Northern Stars Often inspired by folk tradition, nature, landscape and a potent spirit of independence, the music of Scandinavia, Finland and the Baltic states is distinctive and varied, with each country’s music influenced by its neighbours, yet shaped and coloured by its individual heritage. Traveling composers such as Sweden’s Joseph Kraus introduced 18th and early 19th century classical trends from Germany and Italy, but with national identity gaining increasing importance as Romantic ideals took hold, influential and distinctive creative lines were soon established. The muscular strength of Carl Nielsen’s symphonies grew out of the Danish nationalist vigor shown by Friedrich Kuhlau and Niels Gade, extending to names such as Per Nørgård today. Gade was a teacher of Edvard Grieg, who owes his position as Norway’s leading composer, at least in part, to the country’s traditional folk music and the poignant lyricism of the Hardanger fiddle. The music of Finland is dominated by the rugged symphonies of Jean Sibelius, and his Finlandia ensured his status as an enduring national symbol. Sibelius successfully combined the lessons of Viennese romanticism with a strong Nordic character, and this pragmatic approach has generated numerous contemporary giants such as Aus Sallinen, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Kalevi Aho and Kaija Saariaho. Turbulent history in the Baltic States partially explains a conspicuous individualism amongst the region’s composers, few more so than with Arvo Pärt, whose work distils the strong Estonian vocal tradition into music of striking intensity and crystalline beauty.

CD selling is not an easy business in the 21st century and we truly appreciate your ongoing custom. Despite it being December, we have plenty to offer you this month! New releases are in abundance, albeit without so many of the usual ‘high profile’ releases that usually appear each month. Titles to point out are Stephen Hough’s brand new Brahms Piano Concertos on Hyperion, the final Ring Cycle instalment (Gotterdammerung) from Janowski on Pentatone and a couple of new Britten issues from LSO Live and NMC. There are also plenty of historical items to look at, with the availability of these labels improving week by week. This Second Edition is the result of the very encouraging emails we’ve received. Most of your emails have been simply about how much you’ve enjoyed the coverage and found the eBook useful. Some of you have also brought additional works to our attention, many of which we’ve included here. This new edition adds another 10 quartets which amounts to nearly 3 hours of listening time. We’ve chosen a balance of little-known works by famous composers like Samuel Barber, Kurt Weill, Franz Liszt, Beethoven (yes, even this titan of a composer has neglected works) as well as composers whose entire output, not just their string quartets, is largely forgotten, such as Chevalier de Saint-George and Malipiero. And one of the new quartets is in fact a multicomposer suite of 16 movements from Russia called Les Vendredis, certainly one of the most interesting discoveries we’ve made. Since the First Edition, the internet app called Spotify has been widely adopted by the classical music community and so we have begun to include Spotify listening links – we’ll start with new works being added to this Second Edition, and retrospectively add links for the rest.
