Abenberg

Historical Fortress Town with a monestary. The Castle Road runs through the heart of the old town. The Castle sits enthroned over the charming old city and is a symbol of the town‘s historical significance. Near the conference rooms in the castle there is a hotel, and a restaurant serving international cuisine.

The Museum ‚The House of History‘ and the Lace-Making Museum are also located in the castle.

Over 60 Kilometers of newly marked circular routes as well as a well built cycling routes run through the wonderful Franconian countryside.

Sights worth seeing include the 500 year old Monestary at Marienburg, the parish church of St James, the towers of the castle and the town gates, the town hall, the moated castle in Dürrenmungenau as well as the village churches of Dürrenmungenau, Wassermungenau, Obersteinbach and Kleinabenberg.

Allersberg

The Gate to the Franconian Lakelands

Here there is an old tradition of wire drawing- a practice which was first documented in 1254. In 1339 there was a large donation left for the local hospital by Sir von Wolfstein. There are 8500 inhabitants in the village, which is situated only 380m away from the A9 to , which is easily accessible from the village( there is a clear sign leading to the village on the A9). The nearest railway station, ( Rothsee) is also easily accessible. Allersberg lies 20km to the south of Nuremberg. The village is one of the communities situated by the Rothsee( Lake Roth) with a lovely beach to relax on nearby.

The town has well signposted walking and cycling routes in and around Allersberg- we would particularly recommend the `Themed walking Trail‘ and the newly designed `Experience Nature Path‘ along the small river Roth.

Things worth seeing:

Baroque marketplace with a gate tower, the parish church dedicated to the Feast of the Assumption, the hospital buildings, the Heckel and Gilardi Houses which were once the seats of the families which owned the wire-industries in Allersberg. Roman All Saints Church.

Büchenbach

A Community in the Countryside Buchenbach was first mentioned in a document in the year 1249. The community( with 5300 inhabitants) is nestled inbetween the beautiful town of in the South and the Rednitztal in the South, bordering the village of Heidenberg.

It is easy to reach using the Autobahn A9 (exit at the turning for Allersberg) A6 (exit at the turning for Roth) and the B2(exit Büchenbach). It is also easy to reach using the train( line S3)

Büchenbach and its 12 constituent areas are rich in history. Well marked walking routes meander through the beautiful countryside.

On the Legends and ‚ Streets of Empire‘ walking route, the visitor follows the traces of an ancient road mentioned in sagas and legends. The Nordic-walking/ parcour route starting at Urgerthal is also worth a visit.

Georgensmünd

In the Heart of the Franconian Lakelands.

Georgensmünd lies at the confluence of the Schwabian and Franconian rivers the and and was documented for the first time in the year 1304. The public works of art are particularly important to the community with 6,700 inhabitants. Several Sculptures and fountains designed by artists can be explored alone or by folllowing designated paths. The synagogue and the Jewish Cemetry are striking testimonies to the former Jewish prescence in the region, and they can be observed exactly as they once were.

The village is easy to reach and is situated in the middle of the Franconian Lakelands- the town can be reached using the Bundesstraße 2, the Autobahn A6 and A9 and with the train( Regional Train Station on the train line Nuremberg to Munich( Nürnberg-München)

Greding

Greding- the Gate to the Altmühtal

Greding, the `Town of 21 Towers` has alos eanred the nickname of ´The Gate to the Altmühltal`. The pictureseque town is easy to reach (it has ist own exit from BAB A9) and is nestled in the hills of Franconian Jura. The rich 900 year history of the town, friendly people, delicious regional food, as well as the beautiful landscape surrounding the town never fails to impress vsitors.

Greding is considered to be one of the most beautiful places to go for a walk in the entire Altmühltal national park. There are 17 well maintained walking routes with a total length of over 120km, which invite you to explore and enjoy on foot the beautiful, untouched natural landscape as well as visit various cultural points of interest. Despite the impressive variety of flora and fauna, this is not the only reason why Greding is such a great place to visit - The spectacular historical old town in Greding enchants many with it‘s charm. For example, you can follow the traces of the Eichstätter Prince- Bishops and their imposing buildings which makes for a fascinating journey back into history. Also visit the medieval city wall with 18 defence and 3 gate towers, the Roman , the hunting lodge and one of the last Roman ossuaries in Bavaria, all of which havde been restored to their former glory.

For decades the town of Greding has advocated a nature-based, individual and relaxing experience for tourists, and completely different to ‚mass tourism‘. The local restaurants are also renowned for great service and delicious regional food. The restaurants are well placed along walking and cycling routes, so vistors to Greding rarely leave unsatisfied. We look forward to your visit!

Heideck

Tradition-concious, idyllic and innovative Ideally situated between Lake Roth( Rothsee) and Lake ( Brombachsee) in the south of the district of Roth. offers a variety of leisure activities: walking routes, bike routes, sporting activities and cultural activities.

Heideck has approximately 5000 iInhabitants and is surrounded by beautiful forests. The castle hill with a summit of 610 Meters offers a beautiful view over the surrounding countryside, and on clear days it is possible to spot both Nuremberg and Switzerland on the horizon. At the foot of the hill lies the Franconian village of Heideck with its historical village center and beautiful wooden houses.

Many sights, such as the womens church(1419), the parish church of St John the Baptist(1457) and the village hall ( 14th Century) offer a wealth of local history which adds to the attractiveness of the quaint village. Every third weekend in July the traditional Heideck Festival takes place.

Furthermore, Heideck offers a rich variety of leisure activities, for example a heated outdoor pool, riding facilities, tennis, bowling, shooting, and also a walking route, where you can see several important aspects of the local history, including a reconstructed old mine by Laibstadt which is definitely worth a visit.

Both Lake Roth( Rothsee) and Lake Brombach( Brombachsee) can be reached from Heideck in less than 15 minutes by car.

Hilpoltstein

A Castle town on Lake Roth

Hilpoltstein, a residential town with an impressive castle (with 13,300 inhabitants) has a medieval flair and is only 1.5 kilometers away from the shores of Lake Roth.

The Marketplace is surrounded by rows of the stately buildings once owned by the Wittelsbacher, restored timber houses, a former stately residence, the town wall, and, of course, the biggest landmark in the town- the castle formerly owned by the Lords of Stein. Hilpotstein offers an extensive range of leisure, sporting and cultural activities. Those interseted in medieval history can go to the Medieval festival in May/June. Watching the Challenge Roth on the Solarer Berg is truly spectacular and has an atmosphere similar to the Tour de . The historically themed ‚Castle Festival‘ in the first weekend of August is also well known throughout the region.

Music performances, cabaret and the arts regularly take place in the Hilpotstein residence. Every year on the first weekend of Advent an Advent concert takes place in the Christmas market, and there is a farmers market every Friday.A good alternative to the Rothsee is the openair-swimming pool in Hilpoltstein. Explore the surrounding area using walking and cycling routes- with beautiful old mills, picturesque views, and natural and cultural points of significance.

The Museum, The Black Horse‘ ( Schwarzes Roß) has a great display of old craftwork, as well as the oldest surviving brewery in the whole of Europe. Welcoming Guesthouses and Restaurants serve delicious Franconian and international cuisine.

Kammerstein

Incredible for Walking

Kammerstein lies at the half-way point between Nureberg and the Franconian Lakelands. Welcoming beer gardens, several guest houses, as well as well- maintained walking and bike routes between Heidenberg and Aurachteil are the reasons why you should stay here for a while. The Community of Kammerstein, consisting of 16 hamlets and with a population of 3,000, is the smallest community in the district of Roth. Life in Kammerstein is characterised by a strong sense of community and many great festivals.

The village is well connected using the Autobahn A6 Nuremeberg to Schwabronn(leave at exit West/ Kammerstein) The B446 provides an excellent connection to he Franconian Lakelands. Public bus services to Schwabach and to Nuremeberg train station is another alternative to consider.

Rednitzhembach

A friendly community surrounded by countryside.

The town was first documented in 1370.The town has 7330 inhabitants. is situated between Roth and Schwabach, and is also near Nuremberg with good transport links (Autobahn, Train and S-Bahn)

Rednitzhembach, which can thank the confluence of the Rednitz and Hembach rivers for its name, is an ideal exit-point for visits to Nurmeberg and is known throughout the district as the ‚welcoming community in the countryside‘. The Art trail in Rednitzhembach with over 40 works of art is certainly worth a visit.

Röttenbach

The community of Röttenbach (2900 inhabitants) is conveniently situated on the B2 and on the train line form Nuremberg to Munich. The districts of Mühlstetten and Niedermauk lie in the valley of the Schwabian Rezat, which borders the the towns of Ober and Unterbreitenlohe as well as the communities situated on lake Brombach, Pleinfelt and .

Röttenbach was first documented in 1196, and until secularisation belonged to the Teutonic Order of . Testimonies thereof can be found in the parish church of St Ulrich, the old retory, granary and school for priests.

Leisure:

Walking along the Schwabian rezat, in the Tiefenbachtal or in the valley of Röttenbach, extensive forest paths to walk along as well as well maintained bike routes.

Rohr

The community of Rohr lies in a beautiful valley, near Schwabach, in the heart of Middle between Nuremberg and the Franconian Lakelands.

In the year 800 there is evidence of a mill exising at Kottserdorf, and the town was first documented in the year 1166. The village is composed of 17 smaller districts and currently has around 3,500 inhabitants.

Extensive walks through the hilly landscape, well maintained bike routes, far away from noise and traffic, should help you to relax during your stay here.

Schwanstetten

The market town of Schwannstetten with 7600 inhabitants emerged from the former market at Schwand and the former community of Leerstetten. Within the 32km² community there are the districts of Furth, Hagersdorf, Harm, Leerstetten, Mittelhembach and Schwand. Schwand and Leerstetten were first documented in 1186 asnd 1194 respectively.

The town is situated 15 Kilometers to the south of Nuremberg and can be accessed using the exit B2a, or from the bus route to Schwabach and Nuremberg. The western edge of the community area is bordered by the Main- Donau Canal. The Lock at Leerstetten is at 24.67 meters one of the largest locks in the whole of Europe.

A renewed love for all things traditional and old has led to the restoration of many old buildings in recent years, and as a result it is possible to gain an insigt into how the town once was. Parks and green areas, walking and cycling routes, as well as a popular excerise route running along the eastern edge of the community should ensure that you have an enjoyable, relaxing stay here.

My holiday in the leisure paradise on Lake Brombach

Spalt is the Hop and Beer Capital of North Bavaria and has a rich history as a Franconian cultural hub spanning over 1200 years. Spalt is a hidden gem in the Franconian Lakelands. With the picturesque Lake Igesbach and the large Brombach only a stones throw away from the town, visitors are ideally situated to have an exciting and varied holiday.

Wendelstein

The market town of Wednelstein is situated in the north east of the district of Roth in the heart of the metropolitan region of Nuremberg. The town was first mentioned in the year 1259. Today around 16000 people live in the town. The picturesque Ludwig Donau-main Canal( A great engineering acheivement of the 19th century) is a popular place amongst walkers and cyclists. The centerpiece of the All Saints church near the town entrance from Kleinschwarzenlohe, is a carved alter made by the famous sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider- a real treasure. Particularly notable places to see include the metal pressure and wood turning museum, as well as having a look around the old town. Experience seven district fairs and three Christmas markets. Dont forget: oven, mill and fountain festivals, as well as an open air cinema, art in the town hall park or the Jazz and Blues perfomances.

Attractive Music and Cabaret programmes on two stages and a large variety of societies complete the incredbily varied events-calendar of Wendelstein.
