KÜÇÜK KIZ KARDEŞİM Umimachi Diary Üç kız kardeş, vefat etmiş olan büyükannelerinin Kamakura kentindeki evinde birlikte yaşıyordur. Kardeşler, babaları başka bir kadın için evi terk ettiğinden ve anneleri de tıpkı kocası gibi başka bir erkekle gittiğinden beri birlikte yaşamaktadır. Yerel bir hastanede hemşire olan 29 yaşındaki Sachi Kouda, 22 yaşındaki Yoshino Kouda’ya ve 19 yaşındaki Chika Kouda’ya annelik etmektedir. Bir gün, üç kız kardeş babalarının ölümünü duyar ve isteksizce cenazesine katılırlar. Fakat Yamagata'da beklenmeyen bir şey olur: 13 yaşındaki kardeşleri Suzu'yla karşılaşırlar. Ailesi Oshin’e veda hediyesi olarak 50-sen Oshin değerinde bir madeni para verir ve Oshin bu parayı kendisine iyi şans getirmesi amacıyla saklar. Oshin, baş görevli tarafından sınırlarına kadar zorlanır ve bir gün dükkânın kasasından 50-sen değerinde bir madeni para kaybolduğunda Oshin'den şüphelenilir. Masum olmasına rağmen dağlara kaçan Oshin kar fırtınasında ölmek üzereyken bir kaçak asker olan Shunsaku hayatını kurtarır. Japon TV tarihinin en popüler dizisi 30. yıldönümünde büyük ekrana dönüyor ve 68 ülkede izleyicileri etkileyen ortak hikâyeyi anlatıyor. Shaftel Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 Abstract PARRISH, JORDAN G., M.A., August 2017, Film Studies The Undead Subject of Lost Decade Japanese Horror Cinema Director of Thesis: Ofer Eliaz This thesis argues that Japanese Horror films released around the turn of the twenty- first century define a new mode of subjectivity: “undead subjectivity.” Exploring the implications of this concept, this study locates the undead subject’s origins within a Japanese recession, decimated social conditions, and a period outside of historical progression known as the “Lost Decade.” It suggests that the form and content of “J- Horror” films reveal a problematic visual structure haunting the nation in relation to the gaze of a structural father figure. In doing so, this thesis purports that these films interrogate psychoanalytic concepts such as the gaze, the big Other, and the death drive. This study posits themes, philosophies, and formal elements within J-Horror films that place the undead subject within a worldly depiction of the afterlife, the films repeatedly ending on an image of an emptied-out Japan invisible to the big Other’s gaze.

Studien hävdar att trots de samhälleliga och politiska förändringarna i Japan under de senaste trettio åren har bästsäljande filmer behållit traditionella könsrollsskildringar. Förklaringen kan vara att det är mycket lättare att ändra regler och lagstiftningar än uppfattningen om könsroller, som länge har existerat i samhället. Abstract This thesis examines the gender roles in the workplace featured in the selected Japanese best- seller films produced in the last three decades, which saw the introduction of policies aimed at improving gender equality in the workplace. The study argues that despite societal and political changes in Japan in the last thirty years bestseller films have perpetuated traditional portrayal of gender roles. The explanation could be that it is much easier to change rules and legislations, than the perception on gender roles, which have existed in the society for a long time.
