Dear Contestant of Orbetello Piano Competition, We Are Very Glad to Welcome You in the Beautiful Region of Orbetello Dear contestant of Orbetello Piano Competition, we are very glad to welcome you in the beautiful region of Orbetello. We hope you will enjoy the competition, and we wish you a beautiful experience here with us. Here we will give you the first practical informations about the competition and the logistics. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY! And we kindly ask you, in the unlikely event that you cannot participate anymore, to tell us, that will help us schedule the competition rounds. WHEN 29th April from 2pm to 6pm you can try the competition piano (Yamaha CFX). If for some reason you arrive later in the evening, don’t worry, just contact us! Upon arrival, every candidate will receive a schedule of practising-facility for the rest of the afternoon 6PM: Draw of the name of the first contestant, then the alphabetical order will follow. If for some reason you arrive later in the evening, don’t worry, just contact us! 30th April 9.00\9.30 beginning of competition (the first candidates of the competition can practise from 8 am) Every candidate will be provided a practising-facility schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday 30th April-1st May Preliminary round (the exact schedule and order of performance will be given after the draw) 2nd May 9am-7pm: Semifinal round (the exact schedule and order of performance will be given after the results of 1st round) – max 10 contestants will be admitted to the semifinal round. 3rd May Morning: Final round (the exact schedule and order of performance will be given after the results of 2nd round) - max 3 contestants will be admitted to the final round. 9.15 pm: Prize-giving ceremony and audience prize Important: this schedule is meant to give a general overview and is subject to slight changes that will be notified, in case. Practising is possible thanks to the availability of pianos provided by the local music music associations. We guarantee a minimum reasonable practice time equally for every candidate every day, but we recommend you to consider that the practicing time in Orbetello is meant to warm up and to “refresh” the works you are going to perform. WHERE Auditorium Orbetello: Piazza della Repubblica 1, in the Historical center of the city of Orbetello. The organization is providing a warm-up piano next to the auditorium to be used just before your on-stage performance. The practising facilities are located in 3 different spots in the center of Orbetello, maximum 5 minutes walk from the Auditorium. For those who stay at Park Hotel Residence, the Auditorium is 600m away. People in Orbetello are very friendly and will be very helpful in case you need help. The center of Orbetello is full of shops and restaurants. Upon arrival you will know those who make a special meal deal for our contestants. HOW TO ARRIVE TO ORBETELLO TRAIN STATION Orbetello is on the railway line ROMA-PISA regional train. You can find the schedules on www.trenitalia.com, just insert your departure station and “Orbetello-Monte Argentario” as arrival station. The following is just a practical guide on how to reach us, but please rely on official timetables. Choose one of the following: FROM ROMA AIRPORTS TO ORBETELLO TRAIN STATION: arrive to Roma Termini station, then head to Tracks 27-28-29 (consider 10 minutes walk) And take some regional train to Pisa or Grosseto. You will be able to stop at Orbetello-Monte Argentario train station. or FROM PISA AIRPORT TO ORBETELLO TRAIN STATION: arrive to Pisa train station and take a regional train to Roma. You will be able to stop at Orbetello-Monte Argentario train station. or FROM MILANO OR BOLOGNA OR TORINO: Take a train to Grosseto (InterCity), and in Grosseto change train and take a regional train to Roma . And then…. HOW TO ARRIVE FROM ORBETELLO TRAIN STATION TO ORBETELLO PARK HOTEL RESIDENCE AND CITY CENTER From Orbetello Station (FS) to Orbetello Center take any bus going to PORTO SANTO STEFANO OR PORTO ERCOLE. Buy the ticket at the station bar or on board the bus and ASK DRIVER ANYWAY, and tell him to stop you at PARK HOTEL or ORBETELLO CENTRO, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU NEED TO ARRIVE. The journey takes 5 minutes. On Tuesday 30th April Orbetello Piano Festival will hold a concert at night in the same auditorium. Anna Geniushene, our winner from 2018 edition will perform. The center of Orbetello is very lively and has plenty of nice spots to have a lunch\dinner\aperitivo\drink\shopping. From Orbetello you can walk to the beach of Feniglia (20 minutes walk on the cycling path) or take a bus to Porto Ercole to go to the same beach. Also the villages of Porto Ercole or Porto Santo Stefano are reachable by bus with a 15 minutes ride. Bus tickets can be bought in every press shop and also at the local information office. From Porto Santo Stefano it’s possible also to take a ferry to the beautiful Isola del Giglio. In Orbetello is possible also to rent a bicycle to enjoy the beautiful area. Your hotel will help you. LA RIPRESA DELLE INDAGINI ARCHEOLOGICHE A GIGLIO PORTO A TERRA E IN MARE This paper presents the results of the 2018 excavations at Giglio Porto, in the Roman harbour of Isola del Giglio. Archaeological surveillance during the construction of a small parking lot in the area of Saraceno brought to light a previously unknown part of the Roman villa and especially two sets of corner walls in opus reticulatum with remains of decoration with painted plaster. Vaulted substructures also appeared thus allowing us to identify this area as an intermediate space between the upper terrace of the villa and the lower sector, where the monumental northern semicircular terrace is located, overlooking the bay. At the same time, inside the modern harbour new remains of the Roman one came to light during underwater archaeological survey in the western part of the harbour. A granite bollard, probably connected to one of the ancient piers, has been uncovered together with the remains of architectural elements among which a series of only partially worked granite columns stand out. The concentration of these remains may be connected to the quarry of the Foriano (or Forano), located on top of the Roman Harbour which probably used the small Vado di San Giorgio (the main water stream of the area) as a way downhill towards the harbour and from there the cargos towards Giannutri or the mainland.

Dall’alto del poggio e’ possibile abbracciare con un solo sguardo la Valle d’Oro. Esso ha all’incirca la forma di un triangolo, la cui base è rappresentata dai terreni impaludati che formano il prolungamento del lago di Burano verso Ansedonia, mentre i lati – piu’ o meno irregolari – sono costituiti da una serie di dolci rilievi collinosi che trovano il loro vertice in direzione del Monte Alzato. La Valle e’ oggi, e doveva essere anche in antico la pianura piu’ fertile dell’immediato retroterra della collina di Ansedonia. Allorquando (nel 273 a. C.) i romani fondarono su quella collina la colonia latina di Cosa, la Valle d’Oro entro’ a far parte del territorio della nuova citta’ e dovette essere divisa in piccoli lotti (probabilmente di un ettaro e mezzo di media) fra i primi coloni. L’indagine archeologica – tutt’ora in corso – ha rilevato tracce di insediamento deferibili al sistema di piccole fattorie unifamiliari che caratterizzo’ la proprieta’ e l’economia agricola del territorio per alcune generazioni fino a una data ancora imprecisata – ma da collocare certamente fra il II e la prima meta’ del I sec.

    QUADRO CONOSCITIVO Ambito n°24 COSTA GROSSETANA PROVINCE : Grosseto TERRITORI APPARTENENTI AI COMUNI : Castiglione della Pescaia, Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana, Orbetello, Scarlino OROGRAFIA La pianura costituisce la dominante morfologica, delimitata a sud dai Monti dell’Uccellina e a nord dai rilievi tra Castiglione della Pescaia e Punta Ala. La pianura di Grosseto è solcata dai canali costruiti per la bonifica, iniziata nel 1828 e terminata nel XX secolo. In estate la malaria costringeva la popolazione a trasferirsi in abitati situati più in alto. IDROGRAFIA L’area costituisce parte dei bacini dell’Ombrone (basso corso del fiume) e del Bruna, che drena le colline di Castiglione della Pescaia. INSEDIAMENTI Importanti zone archeologiche (Roselle e Vetulonia) e notevoli testimonianze storiche architettoniche sono diffuse su tutto il territorio con particolare riferimento al sistema difensivo delle torri costiere, alle architetture religiose (abbazie e monasteri), ai centri murati e alla città di Grosseto. RICCHEZZE STORICO -CULTURALI Grosseto è città medievale, originata da un castello sulla via Aurelia. Questa città ha ereditato le funzioni urbane di Rosaellae, “municipium”romano. Dopo il saccheggio effettuato dai saraceni nel 935, la sede della curia di Roselle veniva spostata a Grosseto, ma la modifica ebbe il riconoscimento ufficiale, da parte del papa Clemente III, solo nel 1138. Il territorio della curia era (ed è) quasi tutto in destra dell’Ombrone, e si estendeva a nord fino a Sassoforte (Monterotondo Marittimo) e Castel di Pari, a ponente fino a Capalbio, Scarlino e Gavorrano (compresi). Nel basso medioevo faceva capo a Grosseto una delle 5 contee in cui era divisa l’area attualmente della provincia: le altre in territorio oggi grossetano erano Populonia (Massa Marittima), Sovana, feudo aldobrandesco come Roselle, Ansedonia (poi Orbetello), feudo dell’Abbazia delle Tre Fontane di Roma, Agro Amiatino.

Il fabbricato di questa Terra è posto nell- estremo pianoro meridionale del Mont'Amiata sopra immense e discoscese rupi di peperino (trachite) cadute le une sopra le altre costà donde scaturisce in perenni copiosissime fonti il fiume Armino, che dopo il secolo XIII acquistò il nome del paese dove trae la sua origine. Trovasi ad una elevatezza di braccia 1208 misurata dalla sommità del campanile della chiesa arcipretura che è appena al livello del palazzo che fu de' conti di Santafiora, fra il grado 29° 14- e 8- longitudine ed il 42° 50- latitudine, 5 miglia toscane a scirocco di Arcidosso; 7 nella stessa direzione da Castel del Piano; 6 miglia toscane a ponente libeccio di Pian Castagnajo, e 8 in 9 miglia toscane a libeccio dell-Abbadia San Salvadore.

Medit. 20: 47-139. 2010. — ISSN 1120-4052. The Tuscan Maremma is a historical region of central western Italy of remarkable ecological and landscape value, with a surface of about 4.420 km2 largely corresponding to the province of Grosseto. A critical inventory of the native and naturalized vascular plant species growing in this territory is here presented, based on over twenty years of author's collections and study of relevant herbarium materials and literature. The checklist includes 2.056 species and subspecies (excluding orchid hybrids), of which, however, 49 should be excluded, 67 need confirmation and 15 have most probably desappeared during the last century. Considering the 1.925 con- firmed taxa only, this area is home of about 25% of the Italian flora though representing only 1.5% of the national surface. The main phytogeographical features in terms of life-form distri- bution, chorological types, endemic species and taxa of particular conservation relevance are presented. Species not previously recorded from Tuscany are: Anthoxanthum ovatum Lag., Cardamine amporitana Sennen & Pau, Hieracium glaucinum Jord., H. maranzae (Murr & Zahn) Prain (H. neoplatyphyllum Gottschl.), H. murorum subsp. tenuiflorum (A.-T.) Schinz & R. Keller, H. vasconicum Martrin-Donos, Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC., Typha domingensis (Pers.) Steud., Vicia loiseleurii (M. Bieb) Litv. and the exotic Oenothera speciosa Nutt.
