Uluslararası Plevne Kahramanı Gazi Osman Paşa ve Dönemi (1833 – 1900) Sempozyumu” 05 – 07 Nisan 2000 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu sempozyumda ağırlıklı olarak Gazi Osman Paşa’nın hayatı, meslekî kariyeri, askerî, siyasî ve sosyal yönleri, yaşadığı devrin siyasî, askerî, ekonomik olayları ve bu olayların O’nun şahsiyeti üzerindeki etkileri, bir asker ve devlet adamı olarak Osmanlı Devleti’nin yönetimine katkıları ve benzeri hususlar katılımcılar tarafından bütün yönleriyle ele alınmıştır. Bu kitapta, önce adı geçen sempozyumda yapılan protokol ve açılış konuşmaları, ardından bilim adamlarının bildirileri oturum esasına göre yer almıştır. Bazı bilim adamları sempozyuma katıldıkları halde bildirilerini zamanında yayın heyetine göndermemiş olduklarından kitaba dahil edilememiştir. Bildirilerin kitaba yerleştirilmelerinde şu yayın ilkeleri benimsenmiştir: 1. Sempozyum bildirilerinin sunulduğu dil aynen muhafaza edilmiştir. 2. Bildirilerin dil ve üslubuna müdahale edilmeyip, sadece kelime düzeyinde imla hataları gözden geçirilmiştir. 3. Sempozyum programı kitabın girişine eklenmiş, bildiri sunan katılımcıların isim ve açık adresleri kitabın sonuna ilave edilmiştir. Sempozyumda sunulan bildiriler ve yapılan tartışmalar, büyük asker ve devlet adamı Plevne Kahramanı Gazi Osman Paşa’yı daha iyi tanıma ve anlama yolunda atılmış ilk adımdır. Osmanlı Devleti’ne getirdiği sosyo-kültürel, demografik, iktisadi ve siyasi bunalımın yanında, günümüzde üzerinde birçok devletin bulunduğu ve yaklaşık 60 milyon insanın yaşadığı Balkan topraklarının önemli bir kısmının ve Kafkasların yeniden şekillenmesine sebep olmuştur. Araştırmada savaşın nedenlerinden sonuçlarına kadar önemli bilgiler sunan, 1877-1878 Rus- Osmanlı Savaşı’nda zor şartlarda görev yapan ve çoğunluğu Osmanlı Devleti aleyhine propaganda yürüten Rus, İngiliz, Amerikan, Fransız, Alman, İtalyan, İsveçli, Avusturyalı ve Prusyalı gazeteciler ile bunların yazı, karikatür gönderdikleri gazeteler hakkında bilgiler verilmesi ve Balkan Cephesinde iki yıl boyunca muhabirlik yapan Rus muhabir Vasiliy İvanoviç Nemiroviç- Dançenko’nun “Savaş Yılı, 1877-78 Bir Rus Muhabirin Günlüğü” adlı birinci el kaynak niteliğindeki çalışmasından notlar, görüşler ve gözlemlerin paylaşılması, bu sayede yeni bilgiler çerçevesinde yorumlanması hedeflenmektedir.

The great river separates and unites people, gives them drinking water, irrigation, gives them food and livelihood. It is an important transport artery - rafts, boats and ships since ancient times have connected not only its two banks, but also people who live and work in its fertile plain. The Danube divides and unites nations, cities and states. Downstream, before its fast-paced waters flow into the Black Sea, the water border is formed between two Balkan states - Bulgaria and Romania. The Lower Danube spills its lush waters along both shores to water the mother land feeding the two peoples - Bulgarian and Romanian. Tighten up your luggage and come with us on an exciting journey through the Path of Clay. We will have eight administrative districts located in two countries - Bulgaria and Romania, on both sides of the fertile Danube valley. Awaiting us a journey full of surprises and inspiration. In addition to beautiful scenery, you will be impressed: ancient ruins from the beginning of our millennium scattered in the two Roman provinces of Dacia and Moesia; medieval Orthodox churches and monasteries; remnants of fortress walls and destroyed palaces, who are witnesses of past majesty and glory. ABSTRACT During the First World War, the military and diplomatic efforts of individual Balkan states were directed towacd the fulfillment of national goals that had remained essentially unchanged since their fomiulation in the 19th century. Predating many of the Great Power rivalries that lay at the heart of the First World War, these aims contributed to the Balkan states' perception of the conflict as yet another oppoctunity to attain the elusive goals of irredentism and "national unification," and endowed the war in South- Eastern Europe with the characteristics of a Third Balkan War - the last stage of the Balkan liberation struggles initiated in the early 1800s.

ЧАСТ II Максим Стаменов Институт за български език, БАН Abstract. Why Bulgarian studies? Each professional in the field has a personal story to tell on the subject. For Bulgarians, it is a matter of definite interest to find out why a foreigner may choose to dedicate their professional life to Bulgaria and Bulgarians instead of many other possible alternatives. In this discussion monograph I look for clues of what may have motivated Prof. Machiel Kiel to undertake research in Bulgarian studies in the Balkan context and later move to Ottoman studies with the orientation toward ‘Bulgaria during the Ottoman period’. Part I of the monograph aimed to identify the leitmotifs in Kiel’s oeuvre and the corresponding intentional stance in dealing with subjects related to Bulgarian studies. Part II is devoted to analyses of specific cases related to the nature of this author’s scientific output, which illustrate his style of thinking and the peculiarities in his way of expression. On this basis, I draw generalizations regarding the problem with the point of view (intentional orientation) of this author, with the perspectives to which he committed himself in the interpretation of Bulgarian history and culture, as well as with the leitmotifs in his work.     Mikhail Skobelev: The Creation and Persistence of a Legend Master’s Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Duncan Richardson, BA Master of Arts in Slavic and East European Studies The Ohio State University 2019 Thesis Committee Nicholas Breyfogle, Adviser Scott Levi Copyright by Duncan Richardson 2019 Abstract This paper analyzes the creation and manipulation of a modern myth through an examination of the career of Lieutenant-General Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev. From the summer of 1877 until his death in 1882, Mikhail Skobelev’s career and reputation enjoyed a meteoric rise among the Russian people, within the Russian army, and all over the world. He became an icon of Russian Imperial might and a hero to the Russian lower classes, as well as a figure of international renown. This reputation was shaped and created in the popular press, particularly mass-circulation papers such as the British London Daily News and the Russian Golos. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78 correspondents for these publications, including J. A. MacGahan, Archibald Forbes, and Vasiliy Nemirovich-Danchenko, presented Skobelev to their readers with glowing praise and helped to forge an enduring legend surrounding the general. This legend was then used after Skobelev’s death by groups within Russia, including the Pan-Slavs and military reformers, to build support for their ideologies.
