Nuevo Disco De Nuestros Cristianos Favoritos Que Vuelven a La Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com Nuevo disco de nuestros cristianos favoritos que vuelven a la actualidad con un disco de versiones bastante interesante.La verdad es que si a finales de los noventa los discos de versiones fueron una especie de “moda” entre los grupos, principalmente para terminar contratos discográficos u ocultar la falta de buenas ideas, hoy en día apenas nos encontramos con discos de este tipo, aparte de tributos, especialmente a nuestro añorado Ronnie. Para todos los seguidores del buen hard rock y heavy metal clásico, este podría ser el típico disco de varios que uno se prepara para llevar en el coche, viendo las canciones que componen el disco. Un detalle que me a mí personalmente me gusta, es que Stryper ha respetado mucho las canciones originales y han sabido meter detalles típicos suyos en las canciones dándole un pequeño toque personal. Como es habitual en el grupo, la producción es de gran nivel, aunque ya nunca llegaran a las mega producciones de “In god we Trust” o “Aganist the Law”, pero los presupuestos no son los mismos. Vamos ya con las canciones, el disco empieza con un tema de Sweet, “Set me Free” que ya versionaron en su día Saxon y Vince Neil y donde desde un principio podemos disfrutar de lo que para mí es la mejor baza del grupo desde su inicio, la voz de Michael Sweet. Como a lo largo del disco, en este tema destaca el trabajo vocal, doblándose la voz principal en ciertas estrofas, empastando los coros perfectamente y con un agudo final marca de la casa. Un tema rápido y contundente para abrir el disco. El segundo corte, “Blackout” de los teutones Scorpions es una réplica bastante fiel del original, exceptuando partes de los solos, cosa que será habitual a lo largo del disco. Se hace curioso escuchar este tema en la voz de Michael Sweet estando tan acostumbrados a la canción original y el estilo tan nasal que utiliza Klaus Meine cantando. En “Heaven and Hell” se le ve a Michel Sweet realmente cómodo a las voces y aunque es un tema realmente heavy, vemos en algún tramo de la canción que Stryper le da un toque más melódico y la jugada les sale bien. Otro detalle que me gusta (típico de Stryper) es que Michael Sweet se dobla en bastantes estrofas la voz, consiguiendo modular las canciones y dar esas subidas y bajadas que hacen a un tema ser más interesante o más monótono. “Ligts Out” de UFO es la siguiente en caer y le han subido varios puntos el tempo respecto a la canción original, quedando una versión bastante más heavy que la original y que te hace mover el cuerpo sin pensarlo. Le llega el turno a Kansas y “Carry on wayward son”, versión que hicieron Yngwie Malmsteen y Dream Theater entre otros. Podemos oír a lo largo de la canción diferentes arreglos de teclados y en este tema podemos disfrutar de unos coros realmente empastados que te hacen disfrutar. “Highway Star”, ¿qué se puede decir de esta canción? La mejor opción, hacer lo que han hecho, respetar la versión original, que es una joya. A destacar el solo de guitarra doblado por Oz fox y Michael Sweet, de principio a fin. Sobra decir que Michael Sweet vuelve a andar sobrado a las voces, pero a estas alturas, es algo que no sorprende a nadie. “Shout it Loud” de Kiss, comienza con la melodía de las guitarras dobladas y a pesar de ser un tema mucho más rocanrolero de lo que hace el grupo habitualmente, la verdad es que les queda realmente bien. La voz doblada en el puente y unos coros muy bien conjuntados que quedan de lujo y solo de guitarra de nuevo doblado. El Madman tiene su representación con “Over the Mountain” y es uno de los temas más machacones del disco con ese riff de guitarra que te golpea la cabeza sin parar. Al igual que en “Heaven and Hell”, hay algún momento, como en el puente, en el que le dan un toque más melódico que a la original, pero en líneas generales, la canción no pierde ni un ápice de intensidad. “The Trooper” de Maiden, temazo donde los haya, pero…. por ponerle un “pero” al disco, la batería de Robert Sweet en este tema queda page 1 / 2 Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com bastante por debajo de la original y es en este tema donde se ven los limites de este batería que nunca fue de los de “Champions League”. Se hace curioso el aire que le han dado al solo, con un pequeño cambio de tempo sobre la original. De nuevo doblan la voz en varias estrofas dándole un toque más Stryper. Seguimos en las islas británicas para el macarruzo “Breaking the Law” de Glenn Tipton y los suyos y siguiendo con la tónica del álbum, respetan la estructura de la canción en su versión de directo con solo de guitarra. En este tema vemos que la batería es prácticamente un calco de la original al ser una línea de batería sencilla. A mí gusto, le falta un poco de tempo a la canción y le hubiese subido 3 o 4 puntos el tempo, ya que pide un poco más de velocidad, tal y como Judas la tocan hoy en día en directo. Vamos llegando al final con el tema “On Fire” de Van Halen, que siendo sincero, no es una de mis favoritas dentro del album, pero la verdad es que sigue la estela del álbum en cuanto a mantenerse fiel a las versiones originales y la parte que más me gusta son ciertos armónicos que hacen con la guitarra. La ultima versión es el “Inmigrant song” de Led Zeppelin, otro tema que cuenta con un montón de bandas que lo han incluido en su repertorio y que para mi gusto es el que más flojo les ha quedado de todos, ya que no le encuentro chicha al tema. Como guinda del pastel, el álbum se cierra con un tema nuevo llamado “God”, que sigue la línea clásica de la banda que retomaron con su anterior “Murder by Pride”. Michael Sweet va en los tonos altos que habitualmente canta y es un tema que tranquilamente podría haber entrado en su día en cualquier disco de los 80. Hay una guitarra que en alguna estrofa dobla la voz y en el estribillo también hay otra apoyando las voces. En el solo de guitarra encontramos un solo doblado muy melódico bastante interesante y al final del tema tenemos unos agudos a los que nos tienen acostumbrados. Yo creo que Stryper ha subido elegir muy bien los temas que encajaban en su estilo y que mejor podían quedar en la voz de Michael Sweet y la verdad es que dentro del disco hay gran variedad de temas, unos más heavys, otros más hard roqueros y otros roqueros. Como apunte final, yo creo que el grupo se ha tomado su tiempo en preparar estos temas y han sabido darles su toque personal respetando las originales en su justa medida, no ha sido el típico disco para salir del paso por falta de ideas o algo parecido, que tal y como comentaba al principio de la crónica fue algo habitual a finales de los 90, ¿alguien recuerda el infumable “Metal Jukebox” de Helloween? Gran disco que gustara a todos los amantes de hard rock y heavy metal clásico, para mí un disco acertado y eso que no soy de este tipo de discos.
