Tout d'abord nommé ROXXX REGIME, les musiciens trouvent dans la bible ce nom de STRYPER que le batteur Robert SWEET transforme en acronyme : Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness ! Alléluia !!! 2013, STRYPER fête ses 30 ans de carrière et Mickael SWEET, cet incroyable chanteur ses 50 printemps ! Joyeux Anniversaire ! Il joue aussi de la guitare ! Le groupe est une des rares formations des 80's a pouvoir s'enorgueillir d'avoir conservé 30 ans plus tard son line-up originel. Certes, Timothy GAINES, le bassiste a fait une petite pause en 2004 mais il est revenu à la prêche en 2009 ! Après avoir signé 5 albums de 1984 à 1990, STRYPER a fait une retraite de 15 ans avant de revenir plus croyant que jamais en 2005 ! Ce Second Coming est l'occasion de se pencher à nouveau et s'agenouiller devant la carrière du groupe. Ainsi, STRYPER, toujours en voix, en forme et en Amour réinterprète des titres de ses 3 et uniquement 3 premiers albums. Qu'il y aurait des histoires de droits là dessous que je ne serai guère surpris... Passons...et occupons nous de la musique uniquement ! Que dire ? STRYPER est toujours au top et même si le Hard-Rock franchement Heavy des 2 premiers albums n'est pas trop mon eau bénite, force est de respecter la qualité d'écriture et d'interprétation ! Loud N' Clear, Loving You sont extraits de The Yellow And Black Attack de 1984 (album ressorti en 1986 augmenté de 2 titres !)! Soldiers Under Command, Makes Me Wanna Sing, First Love, The Rock That Makes Me Roll, Reach Out et Surrender sont extraits du Soldiers Under Command de 1985. A part la très belle ballade First Love, je dois avouer être bien peu concerné par le style et l'absence de mélodies plus fluides même si Reach Out et Surrender se laissent apprécier. Vient ensuite 6 titres du "cultissime" To Hell With The Devil, l'album de 1986, de la consécration du groupe dans le Hard-Rock mélodique et pour le coup des ventes d'albums et des "charts" souriant. Impardonnable...quoi que pour le coup, je pardonne ! Et que dire des choeurs retravaillées de Sing Along Song, si ce n'est qu'ils sont bien moins agréables à l'oreille que sur l'original ! Sinon, To Hell With The Devil, Calling On You, Free, The Way et More Than A Man opèrent toujours la même magie sur mes tympans ! Mickael a conservé ses capacité vocales, merci Seigneur ! Vient enfin le temps de 2 nouveaux titres, Bleeding From The Inside est assez lourd au début mais fini par offrir un bon refrain, idem pour Blackened tout de même plus mélodique... 2 belles nouveautés sur lesquels OX FOX , guitariste lead nous régale de technicité mélodique ! Des titres dans la lignée et en mieux du Murder By Pride de 2009 ! Voilà, les albums In God We Trust de 1988 et Against The Law de 1990 sont passés à la trappe de ce Second Coming. Pourquoi ? Ne me demandez pas merci ! Le mixage et la production sont réussis ! STRYPER devrait revenir bientôt avec un nouvel opus, souhaitons le même son et pour ma part des compositions plus dans la veine du To Hell With The Devil, le "must have" de 1986 du groupe ! Amen. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Über Tonträger oder auf Konzerten kam ich mit vielen Spielarten des Rock in Berührung. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, wie unterschiedlich sich Performance, Text und Kontext auf meine Wahrnehmung auswirkten. Es schien mir, als ob dabei die innere Einstellung des Protagonisten einen großen Einfluss auf die Rezeption von Musik hat – was sich im Rock noch augenscheinlicher niederschlug als in anderen Ausdrucksformen populärer Musik. Einerseits vom persönlichen Ausdruck des Interpreten bzw. der Aussage und Ausstrahlung seiner Musik angetan, riefen andere Darbietungen in diesen Punkten Enttäuschung in mir hervor. Mit dem Studium der Musikwissenschaft, besonders des Seminars Musikwissenschaft und Popularmusik, entstand ein persönliches Interesse, herauszufinden, ob und inwieweit bestimmte Strömungen des Rock sich hinsichtlich musikalischer, ideologischer und soziologischer Kriterien unterscheiden und welchen Wert bzw. Unwert sie für die Gesellschaft besitzen. Auch die Kritik an der vielleicht authentischsten Ausdrucksform der (jugendlichen) Gesellschaft veranlasste mich, jene Aspekte, hier auf Christian Rock bezogen, auf wissenschaftlicher Ebene zu beleuchten.     Metal Missionaries to the Nation | 103 Metal Missionaries to the Nation: Christian Heavy Metal Music, “Family Values,” and Youth Culture, 1984–1994 Eileen Luhr n June 26, 1987, members of the Christian metal band Stryken attended a Motley Crüe concert in San Antonio, Texas. It was not Ouncommon for Christian bands to attend secular concerts; indeed, many bands explained that they did so in order to keep current on musical trends. But Stryken arrived at the show ready for confrontation. According to the Christian metal magazine White Throne, the band, “wearing full suits of armor . and bearing a 14 x 8 foot wooden cross,” “stormed the doors of the arena, pushing through the crowds of teenagers and television cameras down the corridor towards the inlet to the main stage.” At this point, the “boys in armor” erected the cross and “began to preach to the massed [sic] of kids who were gathering all around.” The authorities quickly intervened, and, “ordered to remove ‘the cross’ or face arrest, the members of Stryken continued to speak openly about Jesus Christ, and were one by one hand-cuffed and forcibly removed from the arena.”1 Stryken’s actions—which invoked the persecuted early Christians described in the Acts of the Apostles—offer some insights into Christian metal during the 1980s. Motley Crüe’s music and the lifestyle of its members were designed to shock middle America, but the band had become one of the most successful acts of the 1980s. By upstaging Motley Crüe’s over-the-top behavior with their bold act, Stryken attempted to claim heavy metal’s reputation for outrageousness for Christianity.

    Metal Symphony http://www.metalsymphony.com Nuevo disco de nuestros cristianos favoritos que vuelven a la actualidad con un disco de versiones bastante interesante.La verdad es que si a finales de los noventa los discos de versiones fueron una especie de “moda” entre los grupos, principalmente para terminar contratos discográficos u ocultar la falta de buenas ideas, hoy en día apenas nos encontramos con discos de este tipo, aparte de tributos, especialmente a nuestro añorado Ronnie. Para todos los seguidores del buen hard rock y heavy metal clásico, este podría ser el típico disco de varios que uno se prepara para llevar en el coche, viendo las canciones que componen el disco. Un detalle que me a mí personalmente me gusta, es que Stryper ha respetado mucho las canciones originales y han sabido meter detalles típicos suyos en las canciones dándole un pequeño toque personal. Como es habitual en el grupo, la producción es de gran nivel, aunque ya nunca llegaran a las mega producciones de “In god we Trust” o “Aganist the Law”, pero los presupuestos no son los mismos. Vamos ya con las canciones, el disco empieza con un tema de Sweet, “Set me Free” que ya versionaron en su día Saxon y Vince Neil y donde desde un principio podemos disfrutar de lo que para mí es la mejor baza del grupo desde su inicio, la voz de Michael Sweet. Como a lo largo del disco, en este tema destaca el trabajo vocal, doblándose la voz principal en ciertas estrofas, empastando los coros perfectamente y con un agudo final marca de la casa.
