Submitted as Máel-dúin O’Duinn, the submitter requested a name authentic for 15th C Ireland. As submitted, the name is unregisterable since the byname mixes the English patronymic marker O’ with the Irish patronym Duinn in violation of RfS III.1.a. This can be fixed by changing the marker to the Irish Ó. This change was specifically allowed by the submitter. The given name Máel-dúin is documented to before the 13th C; it is a Middle Irish form of the name inappropriate for use in the 15th C. The Annals of the Four Masters has a Magnus mac Maoile Duin in an entry for 1486. Irish bynames that use mac in this period are typically true patronymics; Magnus’s father almost certainly bore the given name Maol Duin. The normalized Early Modern Irish form of this name is Maol Duín; precedent holds that accents in Gaelic names must either be used consistently or dropped consistently. We have changed the name to Maol_Duín Ó Duinn, a fully Early Modern Irish form appropriate for the 15th C, in order to register it and to fulfill the submitter’s request for authenticity.

Though relatively diminutive in size, they embody to an exceptional degree that fusion of art and thought which is one of the chief glories of the Renais- sance. Indeed, in their beauty and their learning, these medals are a reflection in microcosm of the civilization which produced them. They represent a world which celebrated not only princes and prelates but poets and scholars as well, and they have been preserved down through the years by those who have cherished them as enduring expressions of the Humanistic tradition. ^ The present collection, one of the finest of its kind in private hands, belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Salton of New York. The Salton Collection is particularly distinguished for the extremely high level of quality of the specimens in it; many of them, indeed, have come from the illustrious collections of the past. No fewer than seventeen examples are unique. While the origins of the Salton Collection date from before World War II, most of the pieces it now contains were col- lected since that time. Mrs. Salton has taken as great an interest as her husband in the formation of the collection, and her enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, medals is evident in her Introduc- tion to the Catalogue.

A brief Bio of Chip is listed in this month’s Alfa Owner Magazine A Brief History of the Alfa Romeo Logo With Alfa Romeo's 110th birthday coming on June 24th, the company is rolling out images and archive material that looks back on a storied history. There's a lot of it, so much so that we decided to break it up into several articles that take a closer look at the individual eras and themes. First up in our own celebration of Alfa Romeo history is the evolution of the badge. As the headline suggests, yes, that's a serpent eating a man. Alfa Logo (1910-1915) The official origin story goes back to company's first days in 1910, when Alfa was spelled in capital letters as an acronym for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company). According to Alfa Romeo's press materials: Romano Cattaneo, one of A.L.F.A.’s designers, was in Piazza Castello waiting for tram number 14. While looking at the iconic Filarete Tower, Cattaneo’s eye was caught by the “Biscione Visconteo,” the coat of arms of the Visconti family, which had dominated medieval Milan.
