The draw will be presented by Pedro Pinto and Rachel Wyse, and carried out by Giorgio Marchetti, UEFA’s Deputy General Secretary. They will be assisted by Robbie Keane and Ronnie Whelan from the Republic of Ireland and Vítor Baía and Nuno Gomes of Portugal. Ricardo Carvalho, who won the UEFA Champions League in 2004 with Porto, and who was a member the All-Star Squad of UEFA EURO 2004, will bring the Henri Delaunay trophy to the stage. Special Guests ROBBIE KEANE The Republic of Ireland’s record marksman by some distance, Robbie Keane took his tally of international goals past the half-century mark during UEFA EURO 2012 qualification. After a dozen years in the English Premier League, the bulk of them as a Tottenham Hotspur FC player, the forward moved to MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy in 2011. He had scored his 50th Ireland goal in June 2011, ten months after becoming the fourth Irish footballer to win a century of caps. NUNO GOMES Winner of the Portuguese Cup with Boavista FC at the age of 20, Nuno Gomes became an iconic goalscoring machine, netting over 150 times for SL Benfica across two spells with the club (1997–2000 and 2002–11). At international level, he was part of the Portuguese team that finished third at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1995, having won the UEFA European Under-18 Championship the year before. Gomes was also a member of the Portugal side that lost the UEFA EURO 2004 final 1-0 to Greece on home soil. VÍTOR BAÍA Legendary goalkeeper for FC Porto, for whom he played more than 500 matches and won many trophies at domestic (10 championships and 5 national cups) and continental levels (UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup), Vítor Baía also lifted the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup with FC Barcelona in 1997. Internationally, he won 80 caps during 12 years as Portugal’s goalkeeper, the highlight of which was reaching the UEFA EURO 2000 semi-finals. RONNIE WHELAN Ronnie Whelan knows all about big European nights from his playing days with Liverpool FC and the Republic of Ireland. Whelan was an integral feature of Liverpool’s all-conquering side of the 1980s and also played a telling part in Ireland’s breakthrough appearance at EURO ‘88. Whelan tasted glory with Liverpool in 1984 when they beat AS Roma in the European Champion Clubs’ Cup final, but was on the losing side when they returned to the final 12 months later against Juventus. The midfielder also helped Liverpool win a league and FA Cup double in 1986 and, by the time they overcame Everton FC in the 1989 FA Cup final, he was wearing the captain's armband. Overall, the Irishman landed six league titles with Liverpool and made 493 appearances, scoring 73 goals. UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifying Draw | Press Kit 1 RICARDO CARVALHO The classy centre-back broke into the Porto side midway through the 2002/03 season that ended with a Liga, Portuguese Cup and UEFA Cup treble. He was then on the field for every minute of Porto's 2003/04 UEFA Champions League triumph, being voted UEFA best defender for the campaign. Thrown into the deep end for Portugal's second match at UEFA EURO 2004, he started every game thereafter − including the final – and also figured prominently at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2008. Following José Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004, he won three further league titles and two League Cups. A UEFA Champions League finalist in 2007/08, Ricardo Carvalho was reunited with Mourinho when he left Chelsea for Madrid in August 2010. He lifted the Copa del Rey in his first season and the Spanish Liga in his second before a 2013 switch to Monaco. He remained in the principality until 2016, year of his crowning glory with Portugal: at 38, the oldest outfield player at UEFA EURO 2016, Carvalho made three appearances in France as Portugal claimed their first major trophy. 2 UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifying Draw | Press Kit Key points • All 55 entrants will be involved in the qualifying group stage, with no exemptions for any of the 12 EURO host nations. • The teams will be drawn into ten groups: five of five (Groups A–E) and five of six (Groups F–J), played between March and November 2019. • The six seeding pots were confirmed after the UEFA Nations League league phase. • The top two teams in each of the ten groups will qualify for the finals in June and July 2020. • The remaining four finals slots will be decided by play-offs in March 2020 (with entry decided by the UEFA Nations League). How the groups are formed • The 55 teams involved in the draw were classified on the basis of the overall UEFA Nations League Rankings issued on 21 November. • Based on these rankings, the 55 teams were divided into seven pots with the UEFA Nations League pot containing the four finalists, followed by Pot 1 to Pot 6 in accordance with the rankings Draw pots UEFA Nations League pot (4 teams): Switzerland*, Portugal*, Netherlands*, England* Pot 1 (6 teams): Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Poland Pot 2 (10 teams): Germany, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina*, Ukraine*, Denmark*, Sweden*, Russia, Austria, Wales, Czech Republic Pot 3 (10 teams): Slovakia, Turkey, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland*, Norway*, Serbia*, Finland*, Bulgaria, Israel Pot 4 (10 teams): Hungary, Romania, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Georgia* Pot 5 (10 teams): FYR Macedonia*, Kosovo*, Belarus*, Luxembourg, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Gibraltar, Faroe Islands Pot 6 (5 teams): Latvia, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Malta, San Marino *Already ensured at least a play-off place after winning UEFA Nations League group. UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifying Draw | Press Kit 3 HOW TO FOLLOW THE DRAW On UEFA.com and official social media channels. UEFA.com is the official website of the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers. The fully responsive UEFA Nations League section – available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish – will provide in-depth coverage of the competition, including live streaming and detailed editorial coverage of the draw. With over 160 million visitors per year, the website has extensive reach, both for UEFA and its member associations, as do the official social media channels. The UEFA Nations League will be covered via the established and popular UEFA EURO accounts: Facebook: EURO2020 Instagram: EURO2020 Twitter: @UEFAEURO YouTube: UEFA.tv During the event, UEFA will share several photos with media, including behind-the-scenes images, photos of guests arriving, and shots of the draw and trophy. These photos will be available free of charge for editorial use from the UEFA Media Channel, and via the dedicated media handout photo gallery. 4 UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifying Draw | Press Kit HOW THE DRAW WILL WORK The four teams in the UEFA Nations League pot will be drawn into first position in Groups A to D. This is to ensure they have two dates free to play the UEFA Nations League Finals in June. The teams in Pot 1 will then be drawn into first position in Groups E to J. The teams in Pot 2 will be drawn into second positions in the ten groups, with the draw continuing in similar style for Pots 3, 4 and 5 to fill positions 3, 4 and 5 respectively. The teams in Pot 6 will be drawn into sixth position in the six-team Groups F to J. How does qualifying work? The top two teams in each of the ten groups will automatically qualify for UEFA EURO 2020. The remaining four berths will be filled by the play-offs, which are contested by the 16 UEFA Nations League group winners (i.e. the four group winners in each of the four divisions) or the next best- ranked team in their league. If a league does not have four teams to compete, the remaining slots are allocated to teams from another league, according to the overall UEFA Nations League rankings. Host nations • In order to allow all 12 UEFA EURO 2020 host association teams a chance of qualifying as group winner or group runner-up, a maximum of two such teams can be drawn into one group. • If a UEFA EURO 2020 host association team is, or could be, drawn into a group already containing two such teams, this team is placed instead in the first available group in alphabetical order as indicated by the computer.

  • The Labor Agreements Between UAW and the Big Three Automakers- Good Economics Or Bad Economics? John J
Journal of Business & Economics Research – January, 2009 Volume 7, Number 1 The Labor Agreements Between UAW And The Big Three Automakers- Good Economics Or Bad Economics? John J. Lucas, Purdue University Calumet, USA Jonathan M. Furdek, Purdue University Calumet, USA ABSTRACT On October 10, 2007, the UAW membership ratified a landmark, 456-page labor agreement with General Motors. Following pattern bargaining, the UAW also reached agreement with Chrysler LLC and then Ford Motor Company. This paper will examine the major provisions of these groundbreaking labor agreements, including the creation of the Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA), the establishment of a two tier wage structure for newly hired workers, the job security provisions, the new wage package for hourly workers, and the shift to defined contribution plans for new hires. The paper will also provide an economic analysis of these labor agreements to consider both if the “Big Three” automakers can remain competitive in the global market and what will be their impact on the UAW and its membership. Keywords: UAW, 2007 Negotiations, Labor Contracts BACKGROUND he 2007 labor negotiations among the Big Three automakers (General Motors, Chrysler LLC, and Ford Motor) and the United Autoworkers (UAW) proved to be historic, as well as controversial as they sought mutually to agree upon labor contracts that would “usher in a new era for the auto Tindustry.” Both parties realized the significance of attaining these groundbreaking labor agreements, in order for the American auto industry to survive and compete successfully in the global economy. For the UAW, with its declining membership of approximately 520,000, that once topped 1.5 million members, a commitment from the Big Three automakers for product investments to protect jobs and a new health care trust fund were major goals.
