STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2000 No. 1117 LONDON GOVERNMENT HIGHWAYS, ENGLAND The GLA Roads Designation Order 2000 Made - - - - 10th April 2000 Laid before Parliament 26th April 2000 Coming into force - - 22nd May 2000 The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 14A of the Highways Act 1980(1) hereby makes the following Order: Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the GLA Roads Designation Order 2000 and shall come into force on 22nd May 2000. Designation of GLA roads 2.—(1) The highways specified in the Schedule to this Order are hereby designated as GLA roads. (2) In accordance with section 14A(2) of the Highways Act 1980 3rd July 2000 is hereby specified as the date on which those highways are to become GLA roads. Interpretation of the Schedule 3. In the Schedule to this Order— (a) a reference to the boundary of London is a reference to the boundary of Greater London; (b) the description of a highway includes the intersection of that road and any other road that crosses it at the same level; and (c) the description of a highway which, or any length of which, is a trunk road includes any highway constructed as part of the trunk road for the purpose of relieving the main carriageway of the trunk road from local traffic. For the definition of GLA road see the amendments made by section 263 of the 1999 Act. Section 14A(3) provides that orders under section 14A may be made only before the beginning of the term of office of the first Mayor of London. In accordance with section 3(1) of the 1999 Act the first election will be held on 4th May. The first Mayor will thereafter take office in accordance with section 2(8) of the 1999 Act. A2 from the boundary of London to its junction with Borough High Street (A3) including— (a) Amersham Road from its junction with New Cross Road to the south side of its junction with Parkfield Road; (b) Lewisham Way from its junction with New Cross Road to the south east side of its junction with Parkfield Road; and (c) Parkfield Road. 3. A3 Kingston by-pass from the boundary of London to its junction with St. George’s Road (A302) and New Kent Road (A201) including— (a) Ace Parade; (b) Elephant and Castle from its junction with Newington Butts to its junction with Elephant and Castle Roundabout; (c) Hook Roundabout; (d) Malden Junction; (e) Shannon Corner Roundabout; and (f) Newington Butts. 4. A3 from the south west side of its junction with Marshalsea Road (A3201) and Great Dover Street (A2) to its junction with Cannon Street and Eastcheap. 5. A4 from the boundary of London to the north east side of its junctions with Park Lane excluding that part of the A4 spur known as Concorde Roundabout at the termination of the M4 spur and the unnamed slip road linking the M4 junction 4a to the junction of Bath Road (A4) and Sipson Road between its junction with Bath Road and Sipson Road and the first unnamed western access road to the Excelsior Hotel, Bath Road but including— (a) Duke of Wellington Place; (b) Grosvenor Place from its junction with Hyde Park Corner to the south east side of its junction with Duke of Wellington Place; and (c) Hyde Park Corner. 6. A5 from the north west side of its junction with St. John’s Wood Road (A5205) to its junction with Marble Arch (A40). 7. A21 from its junction with the A224 to its junction with Rushey Green and Sangley Road (A205) excluding— (a) the service road at Pratts Bottom between Broke Farm Drive and Rushmore Hill; and (b) the service road that fronts 137–153 Hastings Road. 13. A21 from its junction with Rushey Green and Brownhill Road (A205) to its junction with Loampit Vale (A20) including Molesworth Street. 14. A22 from the boundary of London to its junction with the A23 at Purley Cross. 15. A23 from the boundary of London to the south east side of its junction with Kennington Park Road (A3) including— (a) Banstead Road; (b) Foxley Lane from the north west side of its junction with Banstead Road to its junctions with Purley Way; (c) Purley Road from its junction with Banstead Road to the south east side of its junction with Russell Hill Parade; (d) Purley Way; and (e) Russell Hill Parade. 16.
